removing a mod?

Ive downloaded a few GFX mods to try but im not on them so i want to remove them, now i deleted the 06.dat/cat file but i still have the word 'modified' on my screen, how can I set everything back to normal, ive deleted and reinstalled (steam version) but i still see that 'modified' at the top of the screen

The modified-tag can't be removed from your savegame. If you want an unmodified game you have to start a new game. (Though there might be somewhere a mod that removes at least the visible modified-tag on the screen - game is of course still modified then.)
If the modified-tag is also present in a new game, check after deinstallation if there are any files left in the Egosoft directory and remove them manually.

yeah , i started a new game and it had gone...does this tag show up in every mod or just the one i used?

The "modified" tag shows up everytime you alter your game, with a mod or a script so yeah it shows up for all
