I've been watching my CAG's a bit more closely lately, including looking at the "analysis to log" feature to see why they spend so much time doing absolutely NOTHING.

I have a complex in Mines of Fortune. I have 6 superfreighters (Mistral) set up to buy Energy Cells. They are set to Shopper, and their Ware List (Trade List) is Energy Cells only.

As far as I'm concerned, this means that the only thing they should ever care about, as currently configured, is the purchase price of Energy Cells. Yet, looking at their logs, I see them computing prices and possible sales locations... for selling my Products from that complex.

I have other CAG's for that... My complex has a lot of intermediate and end products, but the only Resource required is Energy Cells.

Why does my CAG spend any time whatsoever even thinking about those Products? I have told it to only concern itself with Energy Cells, nothing else. And only buying them, never selling them. So it would seem to me a lot of wasted computing for those CAG's.

I understand the script needs to be able to handle all of those other products in case I decide to use different settings later (or for other ships), but as far as that ship goes, it would seem to reduce a lot of overhead if the configuration precludes the script on THAT ship from analyzing ANYTHING but Energy Cells.

Am I wrong?

Just to show it, I'll post its analysis to log, under this post. My point is... most of that log (and by backwards extension, most of the ANALYSIS itself) is completely unnecessary and wasted CPU (and Pilot!) time. Configurations should make it so only "so much" needs to be run in the script, not the whole script running even though you've only told it to handle one thing.

Not to mention, that Complex has room for millions of Energy Cells, and yet anywhere from 3-6 of my 6 dedicated Energy Cells buying freighters (with these same settings) are Idle or Standby... constantly... The complex is completely empty... only getting a trickle from a couple freighters at a time, when all 6 should be moving FULL TIME.

WHY?

Because they're running their time intensive search engine for Products they shouldn't be concerned about in the first place! Apparently every time they land, I'm guessing? There are all kinds of Energy Cells to buy! Go buy them, please! There are no enemies nearby... they should have a clear run... /sigh... and a bit of /lol...

I imagine the most likely problem is that the script currently can't narrow down a complex's resources/products from running (being searched for) on any CAG ships with that complex as a home. Regardless of what their particular settings are. They'll only buy/sell what they're told to, but they'll search for EVERYTHING in range that complex handles, every time, before they do it.

BUT... the script CAN obviously tell what a complex's products and resources are. So apparently it does have at least SOME ability to limit what wares it searches for.

So basically trick it... so that if you tell a CAG to only handle one thing for a complex, that CAG thinks it's working for a complex that only deals in that one thing. And only runs searches for that one thing, unless you change its configuration, whereupon it will now think it's working for a complex that only handles that (those) thing(s).

Doable? Not by me, that's for sure!

But you can see how much computing it would eliminate... EVERYTHING in that log, except Energy Cells, would be eliminated from that ship's CAG search engine... CAG ships would land and then LEAVE much faster to buy/sell more stuff... NOT sit around in the dock, on Idle/Standby while it searches for stuff it's not even involved with! And that's just for one CAG handling one product at one complex!

greetings i have a odd problem with my trader as in i cant acualy get the product to stay on the list.

What i do is click the start internal commodity logistics then homebase
product then pick the product i want and set a price but it then it goes back
to the pick product option with the stuff just added not showing so it kinda
resets it right after i pick the price


does anyone have any solution?

That's normal behavior; it lets you add multiple products. Just hit "done" or whatever if you don't to add any more. EST does the same thing and it threw me off the first time.

The Commercial Agent automically supplies your factories and complexes, which means he will buy and with a higher level also sell all wares (unless you adjust it differently) of a factory/complex so the player will gain the highest profit.
The Commodity Logistics Software enables you to set waypoints a freighter should fly to. So for example, you can decide that a freighter with a solar power plant as homebase should fill his cargo room with energy cells and unload then certain amounts at certain factories for a certain price.

Well, i've got a problem. I got 2 pilots (max level) working for 2 different factories. They worked and did their job for as long as i know and then all of the sudden they stopped, and wherever they were at the time they just sit there with "idle" cmd.
Sais that CAG is on but they are idle (not CAG on standby).
Also, it appears that they still look for places to buy stuff, i noticed they change their destination from time to time but thats about it, they still stay idle ... i tried everything, restarting cag, reasigning pilots, every singe trick i know.

I've been using CAG for quite awhile, i know 99% of all the options and menus regarding them and i still cant figure out whats wrong, all settings are set correctly ... this is the first time it happens ...

Any ideas?

naisha I have had this a couple of times, I found that they were often docked in a station with a load of product and the station was full of that product, and the home base was also full of the product, this tends to happen with intermediate wares. Sometimes you have to manually send them somewhere to sell the ware, then send them home and restart cag, othertimes ive transferred the ware to a ship im about to sell then sent them home and restarted, the act of emptying the bay and restarting them seems to resolve the issue.

Altho, this pilot here has nothing in its cargo bay (except the EC needed for jumpdrive) and the factory he is working for isnt full, around 50-60 %. Also, its lacking some Chelts meat. The cag sits at his homebase, which is the factory in question and does nothing.

Anyway, since I'm using CAG with XTC (Xtended Terran Conflict mod) i also posted this on their site, and some of them have experienced this issue aswell sometimes and they suggested i reset completely both cags as that worked for them. So I'm going to do that and see how it goes.

EDIT: I tried going in CAG "Global configuration" and used the "Traders reset their board computers" (or something like that) and then restarted the cags. Apparently that got em moving ... Lets see for how long

I notice in the pilot settings the blacklist is clear of items, have you manually added items to his whitelist? As i found they actually worked better (for me) without any specific ware list set for basic factories.

Well, when i configure my traders i go to ware list and add only the wares i want them to trade and that seemed to be sufficient for them to work. And they did work for several hours ... I dont think that setting up the traders by using the blacklist would change anything, but i will go and try now and see.

EDIT : well that didnt work.
So i went to command console for each ship and then into the script editor and used the "Reinit script caches" and that apparently made them work. 10 minutes past and they are still doing their jobs ...

Ok, so got them all going but now i got another problem.

I have a complex made of 3 stations, 500MJ shield production, Rastar Refinery and an Ore mine. (Im split)

The shield fab needs Energy Cells (i am currently buying the EC from NPC), Rastar Oil (its an intermediate product, produced obviously by my rastar refinery) and Ore (its an intermediate product, produced by my ore mine).

What i want to do is set up a ship that buys energy sell up to 90% of the complex storage which is easy to do. But i want also that the trader sells the intermediate products if the stock at the complex is over 50%.
So, I've set my trader in the following manner :

Purchase intermediate products : 0% (0% because if i read this correctly
Purchasing Intermediates
The Agent will buy intermediate wares if their stock at the complex is below this value. This value is also when selling intermediate wares; the Agent will always leave at least this much in the complex in order to safeguard production.
0% should prevent the trader to buy this as im producing myself)

Sell Intermediate products : 50% (this setting, if im reading this correctly

Well, that doesnt do the job, my trader takes all rastar oil (which is an intermediate product) and sell it and disregards the stock level even if i told him to start selling once the stock is over 50% ...

Now either the script has a bug (doubful) or im doing something wrong (likely) ...
