I've never had a pilot bail out on me after a surrender request. (it always takes guns removing hull health for them to jump out)

But any freighters you are attacking may drop some cargo for you if you com them and ask them to surrender.
I see it more as a 'surrender your cargo' option :)

lower targets shields and it can easily drop cargo on surrender requests

And, depending on how much cargo they have, you might need to issue the command a few times to get them to drop it all.

I've had it work when doing some border patrols for illegal cargo. The one or two freighters dropped their illegal goods for me with no questions asked.

As for jumping ship, it sometimes works on pirates from what I've seen - But only after I took out all his shields, destroyed most of his equipment, and dropped his hull to 50%. I've only had it work once though.

I had it work once or twice in X3R, but only after they dropped their cargo and I kept shooting them.

I don't believe there's any code written into the game that would make a pilot bail using the 'surrender' comm option. If you've 'seen' it, then it's either coincidence, or you're using a script or mod of some sort.

So the short answer is NO, the surrender option does not make a pilot bail out.

It doesnt usually work for getting ships, just for cargo. But I do it anyways. Seems like a nice thing to do, you know, give them a chance to spare their lives. Give me your ship, and I wont send you to hell. Oh, so you try to talk tough guy to my face? *boom boom* (ends up either dead or flees his ship :D

There are 2 different options for "surrender" and "surrender and drop your freight" iirc. The first one does nothings

Must have been coincidence for me. Although I have to ask, if the option does nothing, why include it?

there are many things in the game that has been "fast-fixed" for game balance
but not removing the unused stuff leaves great opportunity for modding the game more easily

IIRC though, in X3R there were reports on the forums of Goners bailing out their ships just by shooting a couple times at them and comming them to surrender. Maybe it is just a tool to lower morale of the pilot, that has always been my opinion.

Just an interesting side-note... if a pilot bails (through lowering the shields and some hull damage), does anybody ever let him live? I normally shoot him even before I claim the ship :p

You can lose rep doing this though. When he ejects he turns neutral to all races, and I have lost rep killing him before even though he was an enemy of that race's sector! :o

hehe,

You dont lose any rank if you pick them up, and them eject them in the nearest Xenon/Khaak sector though

I'm not sure about the rep loss, but why not make a few bucks selling them off as slaves?

If we talking about Farnham's legacy, "surrender by comm" - is one of game achievements and looks like somebody got it (i have not awhile :( ).
Anyway, just to kill surrendering pilots is a waste of money. :) You can catch them with your ship. Look at "info" in cargo bay and dock to his destination to take a price. Some sort of taxi. You can check profit into your ship's "Additional->money reports" or so.. Or you can "slave" and next sell him at pirate station. Looks like it's not so profitably compared with taxi. If you have training center (from Strong Arm) you can upload him there and let he became your marine.

"If we talking about Farnham's legacy .." Not in a thread from 2010 they weren't.
