Possible influences in the current X3:TC models/sectors

Post by mrbadger »

Being a bit of a pulp SF collector, I've got a large collection of books with covers by Chris Foss.

When I'm flying around Terran space I always get the impression that I'm flying around the kind of scenery that usually appeared in his artwork, particulerly the massive Terran stations, and the Earth Torus. Even the ships look like they have that Chris Foss influence.

Then there's the Paranid. Their ships always struck me as being similar to those of the Centauri from babylon 5.

Again referring to Babylon 5, the Khaak destroyers have a distinctly 'Vorlons' look to them. Or they do to me at any rate.

The Khaak Corvette looks just like the Shadow ships from B5 :P

It certainly does, but that was a model created for XTM that egosoft bought, so I didn't include that particuler reference.

Not keen on the Khaak Corvette, it doesn't fit into the style of any of the rest of the Khaak ships. Now if they'ld modelled it in the same geometric way then yes, but currently, meh..

Agree with N-S. I thought it was out of place in XTM, and was surprised to see it in TC. It simply doesn't match the 'crystalline' nature of all the other Kha'ak ships. Looks like it belongs to a totally different species.

I also think the Terran stations owe a lot to 70's sci-fi shows like Battlestar and Buck Rogers, all the white and red reminds me of them.

The X2 Mercury looks a bit like the Eagle Craft from Space 1999.

I'm not a huge B5 fan, so correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the organic shape of the Boron ships more closely reflect the Vorlon?

not really, althou they are both fairly organic looking, the general shape of the vorlon ships are alot different.

the kha'ak carrier is simlar in some respects to the Vorlon Dreadnaut, but they are still quite different

The Kha'ak Corvette is very similar to the Shadow Battlecrab.

i dont see the connection between the Kha'ak vette and the shadow Bcrab. i agree with the paranid - centori though. gotta say the boron if painted blue with white kinda reminds me of the minbari (bad speller so XD). cant place what the terran destroyer reminds me of.

I can't think of any SF reference that might have inspired the Boron.

If the Khaak corvette were mottled shiny black, I'd be searching for some Telepaths to take it down :)

i did a thread like this before lol glad to see im not the only one,

split TL, M1, M2 ( they look the same to me ) almost exactly the same as the ships the colonial marines use in the alien franchise : http://www.starstore.com/acatalog/Aliens_Sulaco-l.jpg

the old X2 argon titan looks like the space ships in starship troopers : http://www.frontiermodels.co.uk/images/ ... 8920e8.jpg

i'm joining this conversation because the titans of X2 reminds me starship troopers battleship oh and also..the space station of the same movie are very similiar to the miltary putpost of TC :o

i like considering that the bugs are a pre-evolution of the borons :D

also there is a book here in italy that has an Odin on it's cover...

In fact X2 came out after starship troopers (great film, but really nothing whatsoever to do with the book :( )

I'm not claiming any real connection here besides coincidence, but the GOCE spacecraft kinda made me think Terran.

The mind constantly tries to make the foreign familiar, tricking us to relate one thing with another.

I find the Paranid capitals look alot like Star Trek ships.

The Argon like Battlestar Galactica.

The Split and Teladi like standard sci-fi, eg classic sci-fi ships like the Aliens movie ship Sulaco (think there was a ship mod for it in X3R).

The Boron look well, like squids mostly.
