05 - Soup
Urk! Ok, I think that was the last of my stomach contents so I should be good from here..
New problem, and one I hadn't previously considered, Circle Of Labour is inside a nebula. Kindof reminds me of Atreus Clouds a lot in that it combines the two traits of pea soup greenieness with the general inability to see a bloody thing. I know there's a gate somewhere to the south of the sector but, with no points of reference, just jetting out into the gloom and hoping for the best seems unwise. Unfortunately my suit lacks the more advanced navigational functions that a ship has so while it's able to tell me where it is in relation to the gravitational centre of the sector it relies entirely on me to control it and decide which way to go. Oh well, for now then I'm just going to have to take a best guess and adjust later.
Jetting away from the gate then on what seems like a fairly likely vector I cruise for a while until I'm nearing the halfway point of the sector. Still haven't seen anything but swirling green fog although I'm reliably informed there are stations in this sector. It's impossible to tell how thick the fog is and whether they're near or far. For all I know I could be right on top of one and just can't see it. Reviewing my suits nav-comp it appears my aim was a bit off and I'm drifting slightly to the east and up. Not by a huge margin, but certainly enough to miss a gate on my suits limited sensors. I'm not concerned about missing the gate completely, I'm sure I can find it in time, but every detour and wandering off-course uses up that much more of my O2.
Eventually finding the gate and bracing myself for the inevitable wrenching, pointlessly as it leaves me heaving anyway, and I'm thru into Omicron Lyrae.. and more soup. Damn.
Omicron Lyrae, apparently the site of an epic battle with the Khaak in which the planet was saved from certain destruction, or so they claim. For all I know it got blown up, it's not like anyone would notice it missing in this goop. Anyways, pressing on across the sector I find the gate with little worry this time and thru into Nyanas Hideout. By this point the jumpgate thing is getting kindof old and I'm feeling pretty rough, but at least I can see again and that's something I suppose. Nyanas is a big sector and the jumpgate is a long way off so it's going to take some time to cross, a bit of a worry actually as my O2 indicator is firmly in the yellow.
Safely thru into Scale Plate Green and I think if I ever have to EVA thru another jumpgate I may actually die. My O2 telltale agrees and has decided amber isn't getting the point across adequately and has upped the ante to a nice fiery red with distressingly continuous bleeping combo. Fortunately my goal is only another 40km or so away so I should make it ok, provided I don't bump into a Xenon patrol of course. I don't fancy being assimilated. Uh-oh, what's that coming thru the South gate?..

.. Yipe, it's a P! Lucky for me there's that Phoenix on station, which oddly leaves the M8 Bomber to take care of things..

.. It saves my skin tho so I'm just happy they were there!
Last few kilometres then and I'm finally where I need to be. You know I've never been quite so happy to see a beaten up M5 in my entire life..

.. Yep, O2 was getting kindof low there..

When you're wrong, you're wrong, and it's best to fess up. Well, mntnd3w pointed out to me via PM that if you wait long enough, you do indeed replenish your O². So I tried it this morning before work by docking in my suit. Nothing happened right away, so I went to get a cup of coffee, and when I came back, lo and behold, the suit once again had 100% O².Nanook wrote:You don't replenish air by docking at a station. I know, I've tried. But it's been a while and I don't remember if there's one or two hours of air on board, but I think it's only one. If one, he's not going to make it to SPG without a script or other 'artistic license'. If two, he might just pull it off. Time will tell.
So thanks to mntnd3w, my latest DiD game sans all ships is now underway. So N-S, tell 'Steve' that if he can dock and wait a bit, someone will fill up his tank. Oops, too late.

So claim the damn thing, get in it, air up, and quit allowing time for stray debris like Tomahawks, PPC, and autopilots to sail by and crack your suit open!NUKLEAR-SLUG wrote:.. Yep, O2 was getting kindof low there..

I guess that timer and O2 percentage do tell us that a suit has two hours of oxygen in it? Way to go, can't wait to see what you do about not having a ship of your own

You'd better give yourself a SETA, then, or you'll die of old age before you get anywhere at 14 M/s.Frostynso wrote:I'm going to try this without using the strafe.

100 km at 14 m/s = Very Long, Very Grey Hair (assuming human, of course).pjknibbs wrote:He'll be able to cover 100km before running out of oxygen--should be enough to get him to a station to top up!

2 hours... Just a hair over 119 minutes to be more exact.Nanook wrote:100 km at 14 m/s = Very Long, Very Grey Hair (assuming human, of course).pjknibbs wrote:He'll be able to cover 100km before running out of oxygen--should be enough to get him to a station to top up!
And I thought getting my first grey hair at 28 years old was bad. xD
Anyway... congrats, N-S! I had my doubts there for a minute, but nicely done! *smacks self for doubting*
So... which way is "up?"
