Sadists of the world unite..
.. and make my life a misery.
Had a bit of a break so I think I might start a new game.. which is where you all come in. I thought a bit of input might be good to spice things up and perhaps even provide some direction, maybe set some goals.
This time I've decided to actually get around to doing all the plots so I need to start somewhere that makes that doable. Don't want to make any aspect of the game inaccesible, equally don't want it too easy.. Other than that tho the floor is open, make me cry!

Only ammo based weapons and missiles - you want to fight, you got to pay. (Maybe make an exception for a single turret set to missiles only)
Only Teladi ships (on second thoughts no one deserves that).
Only TMs and large ships can have JDs. Everything else has to walk.
All Hub materials got from you own stations using buy ware/CLS runs.
Plus your normal rules on not buying ships and so on.
Edit: And good luck whatever you decide to do - you got a lot of people thinking about the game in a different way last time!

I had a few ideas for a DiD game but i think they are not so mainstream, focusing mainly on trade, combat following close by.
1) DiD, the usual stuff.
2) Ability to buy things from any race but with a limit of how many toys you can buy based on how many peaceful assets you have, i.e. if you want a destroyer you should have a few factories that equal the value of the destroyer, if you want a second destroyer more factories of equal value and etc, the same applies if you board it (only the bare price should be applied, equipment and weapons should be without a limit).
3) No complexes with multiple factory types, i.e. you can have a complex only if its comprised of one type of a factory.
4) 3 ships of any kind are to be exempt from the factory rule, but the type of those ships are to decided at the start, only one of those ships can be changed in game (i.e. the personal ship).
Rules 2 and 3 are pretty hard (or grinders if you prefer) but the upcoming bonus pack will have a few goodies for that.
Very boring I know but you asked for it.

Great news!
DiD Lost Lar could be good but a little hard since it relies on trial and error
Poisoned paranid could be good but I think giving you a hyperion would involve problems for the whole universe
Goner witness sounds good from a comedy perspective...you could be on a crusade or something bringing light(fireworks) where there is no light
Maybe try one of the terran starts
Or how about a honest N-S that dosen't steal his way to been the universes most wanted....actually that would be rather boring.
Could you also please not use such tough self enforced rules as you make me feel inferior every time I play the game after reading your tales

Race restricted ships... ie start as Terran and only able to use terran ships, argon-argon, paranid-paranid etc.
No factories, ammo prefered (depending upon ship). Race enemies are targets only. Once a plot mission is started, it has to be finished and not put off until you have a better ship/more mooney etc.
Pirates as enermies aswell and you only reside in their space.
Emergency JD only.

How about:
Hmm - doesn't seem quite crippling enough
Tim
- No buying ships
No buying goods
Only non plot missions available from "native" race
No selling goods to NPC
Ships only to be sold to the shipyard in the main central sector of "native" race.
Upgrades allowed to be bought form "native" EQ docks
No capping from "native" race or it's allies
Which start? Would have to be one with combat abilities, but preferably not too good relations with everyone

Hi NS, I'd like to see you make the rules but if not then here is a set that should be fine with the plot.
DiD Terran defender start.
No jumpdrive use at all until you have clearance to land at the torus. Only the most trusted get to use such powerful equipment
No purchase or personal use of any ship that isn't Terran.
No combat missions in aid of the commonwealth races (after all as a Terran you should not be helping the military of any potential future enemy).
All xenon must be destroyed. If that's impossible at current then make a note to come back within 4 in game hours to eradicate the issue.
Your Terran rank must always remain higher than any other. If this changes then command will begin to assume you are a commonwealth sympathizer!

+1 to BDStyle's idea.

Now, that would be the toughest part. You can't get to Aldrin w/o a JD and you can't get to Torus w/o getting to Aldrin. I'm sure NS can manage it though, he is extremely resourcefulNo jumpdrive use at all until you have clearance to land at the torus. Only the most trusted get to use such powerful equipment

I was always thinking about playing a Terran Xeno start where the objective would be to exterminate all inferior races with probable exception of Argon... All of that using Terran technology only which should not be a problem except for capping.

there is no kha'ak start in TC is there??
maybe use a script to make everyone except pirates hate you, and keep it that way, no ship repairs/buying ships (or selling), no money at all really except marines
although that is a bit similar to you last one.
i do like the Terran Xenophobe idea
-Edit- Also forgot to mention a good rule id like to see tried, no resource factory's, just the final product. so if you were to build a flail/hammer factory, you would have to scavange the food/ore/energy from killing transporters ect

Here's my rules in my soon-to-be-posted-here DiD game, maybe you find something "useful":
- no plot missions (well you won't accept this one, but anyway)
- no capping non-Pirate & Yaki ships
- no Terran ships (too powerful and spacious
)
- no Terran stations, nor trading with them
- no missions leading to loss of life (X & K excluded of course)
- main goal to be reached in 30 days, at most
Sounds a bit like Reunion, well it's not.
