error loading savegame, may be corrupt

Post by the1freak »

Hi all,

I installed X3-TC on my (newly formatted) machine, updated it to 1.2.1, started the game and loaded one of my saves. Everything seemed to be working, except that the voices were English and the texts were German; I think I changed the content of the lang.dat file from 44 to 49, but apparently I forgot to install the German language files. Because of this, I ALT+F4ed out of the game and reinstalled it, this time with both English and German files, set German to be the Default language and since then I get a CTD with the following error message whenever I try to load a save:
error loading savegame, may be corrupt
I tried patching to 1.3, reinstalling the game and patching from 1.0.1 to 1.3 and replacing my saves by backups, but nothing helped.

Does anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to start again...

I'm using the European DVD version, the sound worked fine the first time I started X3 on my machine and I'm using the most recent graphics card drivers...

My machine:
Intel Core2Duo E6400 @ 2.13GHz (that's the standard speed, I haven't overclocked it)
3.2GB RAM
GeForce 8800GT 512MB

PS: Does translating my post & posting it on the German forums increase the chances of being helped?

No. Pick one forum or the other, but please don't cross-post.

You didn't happen to have any scripts or mods installed previously, did you?

No, I didn't have any mods/scripts installed.

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Did you save the game while you were playing the first reinstall?

Have you tried loading other saves?

How did you store and transfer the saves when you were reinstalling the OS?

1: No, I didn't even undock
2: Yes, I tried loading multiple saves. I also tried starting a new game and loading the associated autosave, which worked. I also tried saving the game to a normal slot, and loading from that, which worked, too.
3: I had my "My Documents" installed on a seperate HDD, so I only had to set the location of the "My Documents"-folder back. The real path of my my docs folder only contains letters and an underscore, so that shouldn't be a problem either.

I just saw something very interesting; The savegames don't seem to have a version associated to them, have a look at the screenshots:
old game - no version
new game - wrong version (it shows 1.0.1 for the save which I saved to a normal slot, too)

Looks like the patch hasn't installed properly. Are you sure you're using the correct patch version? You might want to redownload to make sure.

Yup, it seems as if there had been some trouble with the patch; after another reinstall and patching sequence it works again. Thank you very much :)
