Are you guys sure about the USC commander start? I have the required combat rank, and finished the terran plot, and additionally my terran ranking is 'warrior of Io', but I don't see a USC commander in the new game screen. I looked in my registry, and found the following hexidecimal value for gamestarts:

4202

Do I miss something?

Reading the opening post it seems I should also qualify for 'Savage Split' and 'Pious Paranid' but alas, neither of them show up. I'm stuck with the starting options.

Also note that I have not reinstalled the game, or patched it or anything. Just bough my copy over Steam two weeks ago and started playing v1.4 from the start.

Terran Defender (finished)
Argon Patriot
Humble Merchant
Bankrupt Assassin
Anonymous Argon
(Custom Game)

All of which, I'm pretty sure, were there from the first time I started the game.

So I worked out the decimal system thanks to the previous posts, seems my fight rank 3,333 hasn't registered yet. This makes me wonder: if it says 'Specialist XX%' in pilot stats, does that mean you have rank specialist and XX percent towards the next step, or XX percent towards the specialist rank? I assumed the former, but I guess it may be the latter. Going to take a couple of combat missions to find out. I'm sorry for any eyerolling I may have caused.

Is it? Thought that Terran Defender, Argon Patriot, Humble Merchant and Bankrupt Assassin were the basic start set? I had to reinstall the game and started off on the Terran Defender start (Erin something, the old Judith avatar from X3:R?) as I had done the Argon Patriot last time.

Ok, so I did have the specialist combat rank all along. I'm a fighter chief now, and nothing has changed :(.

I think I'll just have to flip the Combat rank bit manually then, unless people have other suggestions?

Done, and the new gamestarts show up in my new game menu! Yeah! Next problem: how do I start the USC commander plot from my current game? This is possible right? I started a new plot to see what should set the plot of, a meeting with Samuel Plinter, but in my game the guy is nowhere to be found.

Also, a huge thanks to everyone who is writing these things down. Without these forums I would probably have given up on the game several days after I bought it :).

You need to start a new game to get the new start plot.

5 plots: Terran, Kha'ak Extermination, Hub, PHQ, Goner.
*checks how many starts* 17 starts, and all plots are accessible from all but two, the Aldran Adventurer and Custom Game.

The starts only change what you start with. And if you start with Poisoned Paranid or Tormented Teladi, you have a "Mini-plot" in the beginning

Ah, so 'storyline: enables' simply means that you will be dropped into the 'standard' storyline when starting of, I finally get it, thanks.

You won't be dropped into it, but you can do it if you want. (For non-Terran starts, this is generally done via a "bridge" mission in Omicron Lyrae).

Whoops, nvr mind - I just checked and my custom game died an unseemly death and was overwritten by my Humble Merchant start
Keeping your savegames apart is hard in the first two days of woning the game.

What percentage? 3,333 is a little ways into Petty Financier, I think.

Something is wrong with the Lost Lar start. I finished the hub plot (and the HQ), I'm top rank with the borons and still not unlocked. What could be happening?

Unholy Traitor isn't right either. I have not completed the Terran Storyline but I have it unlocked!

What exactly is the difference between the storyline enabled plots? For example, if you start as Argon Patriot you start out in Omicron Lyrae and you do the Terran escort mission to start. I started again as Tormented Teladi and after I paid the fines to get the ship, I flew to Omicron Lyrae and Heritic's end and I see nothing.

Is all the plot stories the same for all storyline enabled plots (except for the mini-mission at the start of Tormeted Teladi)? Do you just have to have a certain rank with each race before the plots spawn? Thanks.

Only the equipment and rank you start out with, really. The main plot missions (except the extra escort mission you mentioned) are the same for all of them.

In addition the initial relationship level with each race may be different in each start. And yes, some plots require minimun rep with certain races to be offered.
