X3 Editor 0.24 - updated 3/11/2008

Post by doubleshadow »

Note: This software is no longer actively developed. It was superseded by X3 Editor 2.

X3 Editor latest version 0.0.24 - released 3.11.2008

Download from www.doubleshadow.wz.cz

Configuration
When you first run the program, you will need to open the Configuration dialog (Click the Settings icon) and set the Directory with data files to where your game is installed.

Changes
Now looks in the correct registry key for "active mod".

Troubleshooting
If you see this message when trying to run the program:

Code: Select all

Error starting program: ( X3VFS_AddVFSFilter ): File not found: x3vfs.dll
although the file is there, you are likely missing the C runtime files.

Install them in the same directory as the Editor.

For the old users
Since version 0.23, X3E is labeled X3 Editor TC and by default will install into different directory then the old Reunion versions. It also stores settings separately from Reunion X3E so they will not interfere.

Discalimer
- I don't have X3 TC.
- This is not my comeback. Or I would like it not be...

Boring stuff below:

Description
X3E is successor to X2E :) It can edit T files, galaxy map files and xml text resource files. It can can open and save from/to catalog files so you don't need to unpack game data.

You can:
Edit and add new records into most T files.
Edit TShips files (adding turrets, lasers, ...)

Galaxy Editor and Text Resource Editor:
Both editors are fully functional as viewers but their ability to save files may be limited as they were designed for X2.

If you are new to X3 modding, you should also read how to make a mod using X3 ModManager.

This is "beta" version of X3E which "should" work with X3 TC. It was done few months ago when I was approached by TC developers.

As I don't have TC, I have no idea whether it works or not. You will have to find out for me.

Configuration
When you first run the program, you will need to open the Configuration dialog (Click the Settings icon) and check the Terran Conflict checkbox. Then restart the editor.

For the old users
This is the "same" X3E as was used for X3. I can still work with X3 but the functionallity is limited. You can have old X3E for X3 and this new X3E for X3 TC - however there is a problem that both the versions store their configuration (path to X3 game) in the same registry branch. Hey it's not called "beta" for aesthetic reasons! ;)

Discalimer
- I don't have X3 TC.
- This is not my comeback. Or I would like it not be...

Thank you
I've received a lot of e-mails from various people thanking me and asking for X3 TC compatible version. I thank you for your support. If you are using some freeware software and you like it, tell so to the developer - you might think that you are spamming them and that they have better things to do than to read your thanks, but in fact support from the people is the only thing which keeps these projects alive.

Thank you very much, doubleshadow.

Your X3-Editor has been a great help in the past and I'm sure the new one for X3:TC will be, too.
(Also, a lot of the T-Files in X3:TC claim in their header that they were made wit X3-Editor 0.0.22, so I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work ;) )

Thanks for this DS, the community would be lost without your tools. :)

You might want to have a word with Cycrow about the new TC .pck format so Mod Manager can be updated with it. You can use winrar to uncompress them, but it makes things more time consuming than having the process done as you unpack the CAT/DAT's.

Thanks from all the Babylon5 team, this editor has been invaluable to us in the past and now we can start proper conversion into TC. :)

Without X3, this editor and other x3 tools we could not make our dream of a high quality B5 mod happen.

As I understand from Aragon Speed's post, the PCK (or CAT) format was changed. Until I will fix this, you will have to use the WinRar (or 7zip or any other unpacker) to unpack the files and then use the X3E. Or just wait for me to fix it.

Cheers Doubleshadow, I have probably spend as much time fiddling with numbers in your tools over the years as I have spent playing X3/TC, and I enjoyed it just as much :D

hey doubleshadow,

first, big thank you for your tool. worked with that since I started the BSG Mod. For TC also my favourite tool.

Tried the new 0.22 version, has the same message like magusxx for tships, and some other tfiles won't show correctly. Got the same messages for packed and unpacked files. Hope could help you, when you fix the tool.

current version:
- german X3TC
- version 1.2

by starting the X3E, I got following message

Code: Select all

Error loading ressources:

C:\programfiles(x86)\egosoft\x3 terran conflict\04.cat::t\0001-049.pck
File does not contain element language

Objects descriptions and names may be unavailable
By Tships, TWare.., TCockpits, etc following..

Code: Select all

"Error loading from file: Error loading from T file: Line: 1, Col: 1 - Expected ';' after '□<□' "

by unpacked tships

Code: Select all

Error showing object: Object variable or With block variable not set

Hi guys, have you extracted the files all the way to .txt? 0.22 works perfectly with my Tships, Tbullets, Tlaser and Tmissile files (haven't tried anything else) in .txt form.

It may also have installed incorrectly. Make sure it says '0.22' on the editor. In any case, uninstall it and reinstall it from scratch.

Myself I installed it over my 0.15 install and it worked fine but you never know.

Tried all possible wasy, to have a look what is possible and what not. At last extracted the files, used winrar and named with txt. With TC as path in settings, the tships don't work. Because no tfile, and other objects won't shown.

With X3R as path, I could read the TC tships, but without information about weapons, missiles and wares of new ships. And new ships have no names from tfile.

Without TC as path, yep, I could read nearly all tfiles if they extracted and renamed. But can't work with it.

Viper

Edit: @magusxx, sorry, your post was first while I answered. Know that he start to fix it, only in good meaning for support :)

Oh. I see. I haven't been using any path. You just gotta matrix-learn the code names... :)
