Italian version audio problem

Hi all, just played a couple of mission with X3 TC and is all beautiful. The only problem is the lack of any kind of dialogue or voice (included the onboard computer and stations messages). I can read the dialogues on screen only, but i'm hearing nothing.

The same problem has been posted by another user on the italian technical support forum.

When i dock to a station i hear only a radio "click", but no audio message is played.

All the other sounds and the music are ok.

I have the steam italian version.

Unfortunately, on the Steam page for the game, it says that Italian localization is text only.

As I recall from X3:R, it's possible to mod the game so that (for example) you get Italian text with English voices, but I don't remember how to do this off the top of my head.

Another option is to switch your Steam language to English, then verify X3's game cache; this should switch the entire game to English.

Yes, the Italian translation is text-only, but you should still get the English voices. Please check that you have files called 00044.pck and 00144.dat in the mov subfolder of the game folder, just in case there is some problem with the Italian installer.

Other than that you may just be having codec trouble, in which case we need the information requested in the very first thread in this forum.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

I was not expecting italian voices but the english ones.

The file 00144.dat is missing, the 00044.pck is present.

Please run the Steam file verification for the game. That file should definitely be there, and its absence would certainly explain the lack of voices as that's the file they are in!

Verification done. But the file is not there anyway.

I'll try to switch the language to english and see if something happen.

I'll be away from the internet for 3 days, so I'll come back on monday on the forum to solve this with you. Thanks for your time.

Please do no ask people to provide you with files. Anyone doing so would be in breach of copyright and licence terms. This is something that needs to be sorted out with Steam, but please be patient as these things can take a little time to sort out due to things like timezone differences.

I got the same problem, but I baught the game via Amazon. I use the german version so it should be translated too. I hear the radio click when I enter a station, but nothing else. I tryed to reinstall, it still does not work and the files named above are missing. is there any idea how to fix that problem?

If you have a disk version of the game then your problem is entirely different. Please see the German Tech Support forum for more information.

Hi,

I have the same kind of problem with the French version of Steam game. I initially installed the French version. But the French translation isn't that good, so I switched to English in the game properties in Steam.

Now the text is in English, but there are no voices... I ran the file verification, didn't help... Now since I was suspecting a .dat file might be missing I removed them all and started the download again... It's currently downloading, but while 00044.pck is there, 00144.dat is missing... Just like Niphredil.

CBJ, did you mean you're going to handle this with Steam ?

By the way, where are the French voices located ? Because they are working, but obviously aren't in 00133.dat since this file doesn't exist.

EDIT : I re-switched to French to get some voices until this get fixed, and it added 00133.dat, it is actually there.

I also have a "x3 terran conflict french.ncf" file in the steamapps folder, but no similar files for other languages.

Hi all, back from the week-end. Just to say that i've switched to the english version on steam and now the voices are working.

All in all i prefer the english texts, so for me the problem is not a big one....of course it can be for the peoples who prefers the italian version.
