[Poll] Should the mods beat em to it?

It seems polls are getting on peoples nerves lately, mainly cos they're mostly pointless. But i'm guessing that upon the release of X3:TC, we're gonna be inundated with em!

[Poll] First impressions of X3:TC

[Poll] X3:R vs X3:TC

[Poll] Do you like X3:TC

[Poll] etc etc blah blah blah

So i'm gonna suggest the mods, or even the mighty CBJ himself (gives CBJ a wink and blows him a kiss) beat everyone to the polls and start 'official' polls. Maybe a First Impressions poll, which will be stickied and run for say, 3 months (or end of year) and then allowed to head south. That way there will be only one poll of its kind, and not loads of em. Actually a 'First Impressions' poll would probably be the only poll needed. It would also keep the forum 'tidy' and allow for more serious posts. If there is such a thing

(i know i'm guilty of some pointless polls/posts)

The overuse of the poll facility wouldn't be as annoying if the poll tag wasn't so bright or bold.

I dont really mind polls that much, the more pointless ones i tend to ignore. Such as i posted in the 'Who do u like most' poll, but straight away up popped a 'Who do u hate the most' poll. So then i thought, 'whats the point? i cant be bothered to answer'. But i think it would be better if a mod just stickied a 'first impressions' poll for a few months to stop loads of em popping up. One place to see everyones point of view and opinions.

Although i dont suppose it'll stop other threads popping up asking the same questions, just look at all the X3:TC questions there are locked on the board now!

Pointless polls are nowhere near as annoying as ppl asking the same question for the 250th time.

Yeah i've seen a few forums (not Egosoft) that have disabled the poll options.

Does seem to me that some people have missed the point of this thread tho, all i'm saying is that upon the release of the new game, we're gonna be polled to hell and back.

After all, i could've made it a poll when i started the thread

Forbid the polls ; they are subversive and are changing the way people vote in the elections.

On the other hand we could manpulate people with them...

But mostly they are irritating.

Why not ban polls altogether (upon release) and just have a single opinion thread? That way, there are no pointless polls and people have to actually think of their answers and keep it all in one thread, instead of just showering the forum with a load of rubbish and thoughless comments.

lol, bit extreme but that would work also. Could also have a 'PM mod' option to start polls. So each poll posted would be an approved poll. Although i dont think the mods will be happy about that, mainly cos they'll have a hell of a lot of messages in their inboxes! Can i make this poll? Can i make that poll? etc etc

The single opinion thread is what i think we need, stickied so no one can say 'Oops, i didn't see that...'

In the german X-Universe forums polls aren't possible, because this function has been disabled there and now guess why

We had simply to much of them in the forum. Each second user created another poll (How much do you like the split mamba?) and all such stupid things. And now I see that the same thing is slopping over to you guys. Personally I hate polls, because they are so pointless the most times. Who the hell needs a poll with such a question like "have you ever really played X?"
NO! I'M JUST HERE BECAUSE I LIKE THE TEMPLATE!

Bah! In my opinion this function should only be accessable for moderators and if a user wants to start a very good poll, then he can ask one of the moderators who will add the poll to the user's thread. This'd be the best solution.

The recent spate of polls have all been created by newer members of the forum, who are less knowledgeable with respect to the forum rules.... unfortunately (and fortunately, I guess) due to the fact ES are releasing a new game, there's likely to be an even bigger influx of newbies.
