Please don't be condescending. You're entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to mine.
It wasn't meant to be condescending. It's just that some people prefer the mystery, and others just have to know how things work. And they don't always understand the other's points of view. In real life, physics is my major interest, hence I like to learn how things work. However, in games, I prefer to keep the mechanics of it something a mystery as it helps me stay immersed in the game world. Once I know the underlying algorithms, I tend to move on, as it then becomes boring and mechanical. But as fiskal said, it's just personal preference. For me it spoils the game, and apparently, you find that hard to understand. Not condescension, just observation. :)

But I still believe this whole thread should be considered a spoiler. And I'm just a little surprised that Egosoft has let this thread discuss what is obviously decompiled, proprietary code. Most companies would take legal action against those that publish their code on the web. :o

Mark my words, when mechanics are known they must be changed (capping was good, now it must be made more random and difficult), when people know how they tick they lose enjoyment in the long run.

Guess who's had a fair bit of input into these mechanics  :P

If there ever is another incarnation of X (hopefully) you will suffer for this thread. I guarantee you.

Search your feeling ladies, you know it to be true.

If it was up to me i'd ****forcegrip**** those who share to much by RE basecode

I could have told y'all this info 3 years ago, did I? NO, should I have? NO

It's a game i.e Entertainment, all your doing here is finding out the score of the game before you watch it.

I was suspicious of that too, but mods have confirmed that it's ok so far. They are keeping an eye on the thread

how about more based on your reputation and threat level. Obviously, still with some random element.

There's always room for improvement.

Actually, the hint about the morale, which was made much earlier, by someone maybe in S&M, is more of the spoiler than what we have learned so far. Seeing how Morale makes a huge difference, and everything else just peanuts.

I still didn't know if we were on the right track until you wrote that.
There was an awful lot of best guessing, in my analysis anyway.

Spoken like a true sith, except for the 'remind me' part. A true sith would just do it with no warning.

Changing the bail mechanics under guise of the next Bonus Pack seems more Sith-like. No-one will notice if it patches the exe as well :p.

Touché,

The point of this thread is to figure out the ambigious mechanics. If anyone finds it as spoiling material, then they should not be reading this. I havent been advertising any of this, nor I feel compelled to do so.

if people don't want to know how capping mechanics work they will not read the thread called "capping mechanics".

i think it's good that (most) of the mechanics speculations regarding capture are put to an end.

yep, one now has to put them to practice and see if it makes a significant difference.

fair enough, the author of the thread could update the title
Ill try :)

In any case, i just wanted to ask you guys about a couple things i thought where true about capping, i never intended it to ruin the game for some1, or exposing stuff egosoft didnt want exposed.

I apologize if its the case.

I don't think YOU have anything to apologise for.

I for one got so wrapped up in the fun bit of detective work when presented
with a bit of code, that I didn't even stop to think if it might potentially
spoil someones game. And for that I feel ashamed of myself.

People might want to discuss how capping mechanics work without actually getting the whole capturing mechanism reverse-engineered, you know...same way as someone might want to discuss what might happen next in a TV series without someone coming in and giving them the actual scripts!

well, they are welcome to make another thread for fruitless speculation where id will be the best capping weapon and the amount of destroyed extensions will equal the bailing chance.

As you wrote in another thread, you would like more depth to the game. How does that sentiment tie in to you wanting to know excalty how to do it so you can cap more often? Surely taking the 'chance' out of it makes the game more predictable and hence has les depth.

if i already have ideas about how the game works in my head, i'd prefer them to be correct.

I too like to know how things work, but you didn't answer the question.

One thing that has puzzled me though is why this thread hasn't been locked already. It makes me wonder if this is old code and capping actually no longer uses this or no longer works this way - i.e. the code has been changed already. So is any speculation on the code that was posted here therefore going to be incorrect??
