FAQ: Rankings and statistics

Post by CBJ »

As you will already have seen from the newsletter, the pages showing the player statistics and rankings are still under development. The basic functionality is already complete but there are still a few things here and there that need improving. With your help this will hopefully be done as quickly as possible.

Here are a few of the most important questions and answers about this new feature:
When I go to the statistics page nothing is displayed. What's wrong?
In order to see the statistics and rankings Javascript must be enabled in your browser.
Some of the filter options and headings on the non-English statistics pages are in English - will this be changed?
As already mentioned, these pages are still under construction. But yes, further work will include localisation of as many parts of the site as possible.
The count of claimed ships doesn't seem to be right...
Until version 2.5 the game did not keep a count of how many ships the player had claimed. As a result the statistics can only show how many ships the player has claimed since the 2.5 update was installed.
The game says I have captured many ships, however the statistics only show very few or no claimed ships
What the game displays as "ships captured" is actually the number of pilots you persuaded to surrender their ships (including ships that were destroyed after the pilot ejected). As for the number of ships you actually claimed as your own, see above.
I want to browse the special rankings but can't click on the arrow to scroll past position 25.
This is caused by a bug in Internet Explorer. It works fine in Firefox, for example. We are looking into ways around it.
Where are my personal statistics?
Personal statistics are one of the features of the site that are yet to be completed.
What about object statistics, for example favourite ships?
These too will be added as we continue development.
I wish there were better filters to enable more accurate comparisons (e.g. filtering games by starting difficulty)!
Additional filters are also planned. Obviously not every filter is meaningful or necessary for every statistic, but if you have any good suggestions then feel free to let us know.
I've uploaded my statistics but can't find myself in the rankings.
Newly uploaded files do not go into the database in real time and it can take a few minutes before your uploaded data starts appearing in the rankings.
Where are the statistics and ranking for X²?
As with other features these will be released early next year.

... and *modified* games.

Wasn't there one of the patches or official script releaases that tagged the game as *modified*? Or has this snow been getting into my brain?

All I ever used were the patches and bonuspack. Somewhere along the line something triggered the "modified" tag in my game. It was annoying at the time, as I had never opened the script editor.

From the stats board:
Overview of all uploaded statistics.
Only data from un-modified savegames will enter the toplists though!
Oh well us that got caught by that bonus patch glitch are out of it then :(

I would have been 2nd asset-value-wise, & 1st station count-wise (at the time of writing this anyway):

not that it really matter that much :), especially since I've just realized
I haven't played that vanilla game since Feb 07 :o

Merry Christmas to all !

Couple. All were soon followed by versions that did not create false tag.

Backup, install, check, and if necessary report, restore, wait is how I treat every patch/addition.

I recall a thread discussing upload feature like this. But it was on this forum. Devs have promised never to read this forum. :gruebel: Could it have been the good old Birdman's and Logaan's script and site that was remembered by Devs on a not so busy day?

Yes, real good job with that stats stuff by now. A lot of sections and slices already and so on..

The thing i doubt is if it taken into account the goods cost which are not sold and stored in the ships like hundreds of valuable weapons produced and stored.

And the most important thing looks good to be done in stat chars is are separate rating from overall for different type of players played time, some played a couple of days, another a weeks, months.. much differs (like for 1-10, 10-20, 30-40...days and so on for example or other periods of time for better representation).

The FAQ already says: "more filters planned".

In similar vein perhaps some histograms? For example the "laser hit rate": create ten bins, 0-10%, 10-20%, .. ,90-100% and count entries with each. Plot those bins. Then you can easily say how accurate "most players" are.

What is "Theoretical profit" anyway? Apparently somehow calculated value. Based on some hidden data. Different from Assets/Time". One could as well calculate "Shots*Accuracy" to get "Hits", or many other rankings. But those are all up to what Devs have time and desire to implement.

Actually all wares aboard player owned ships or stations are taken into account here (if you unzip the PlayerStats.pck file this will be the <inventory> node for stations, for ships the wares and equipment are simply added to the ship value)

Theoretical profit means how much money could be made if resources were bought at average prices and products sold at average prices as well. This takes cycle time and productivity factor into account.
We have to use average values here to allow for these values to be comparable between different games with completely different market situations.

So it doesn't take into account the difference between self supporting complexes and factories placed in the economy. That's a pity but I'm not sure how you would get around that.

I'm going to need a little help locating about 1000 extra active satellites that are in my game apparently :?

Also here's a little brain fart
0 missiles fired / 0 missiles hit target = 100 % hit efficiency

if 25/61 players have actually fired missiles then how come only 1 has 0 % hit efficiency :P

And you do not seem to be the only one. I found (due to BurnIt!'s hint) that:

Code: Select all

cp PlayerStats.pck PlayerStats.gz
gunzip Playerstats.gz
mv PlayerStats PlayerStats.xml
yields readable XML.
Player section has "ships" just like the ingame, ie ships+hired+satellites.
Ships section has entry for each "ship", including the satellites.
And Lasertowers, Mining Beacons, (and Drones?) probably are there too (not familiar with all "subtypes").

It's not officially linked because it's not as ready as the X3 version - there are some known issues which won't be fixed before New Year.

- at present, there are some very strange statistics

X3 tables showing the leader on 100%,
followed by 17% in second place, make me wonder..

- of course, I could be wrong, though.. :sceptic:

- in the number-of-cups-of-tea-consumed-during-gameplay table,
- I should be pretty high.. :D
- the whole universe is running in BETA mode - we're working on it.. beep..!! :D

Thanks for that, I was going to look at 'unzipping' but decided not to cos
it might lead to a general potentiality for cheating (editing the stats),
but hopefully the sig CRC (or whatever it is) will stop that.

I say thanks, cos now I can work out my factory potential total profit/hr,
which is not given upon upload if you've got the dreaded M flag.
(maybe the upload 'confirm' screen could give all the stats?)

EDIT : 42,288,826 / hr :D (sorry, I couldn't resist)

I just looked at the player ranks and wow. I'm in the top 10 on a few of them. I am impressed. This is great because now we can see where everyone is. I haven't played in a while but will now get back to playing. :D
