is the New Hyperion M7 too powerful?

Theres been a huge amount of thought printed here. I cannot add much more than say that I used the Hyperion to kill enough xenon to get me a python. Now I don't use it at all. With that in mind I don't think its too powerful if there is a way more effective ship out there for me. I suppose its how you fly tho.
I agree the corvettes are nerfed but it doesn't annoy me too much... I love the phrase "nerfed". Give the guy who thought of it a medal.
The balance of the game is a little out of kilter but its much better than in x2. I used to fly around in my Nemisis... nothing could outrun it and nothing came close to outfighting it. I love the fact that with a little care an m5 can beat an m3. I like that a xenon k needs to be respected well after its destroyed because its GPPC's have a low velocity.
So in summary, maybe the balance could be tweaked, but I'm happy the way things are.

I actually think the LX is more overpowered than the M7. With good speed, shielding, weapons outlay, cargo space, manouverability and recharge rate, you then throw on the ability to fire off hammerheads to destroy any cap ship and it's crazy. I love it, but it's still on a different level to any other M3/M3+.
The M7 is a very nice ship, but the big nose compared to the view from the LX places it as No 2 in my preferance for personal ships.

Its perfect
i think the m7 is quite perfect exept for its turning speed i hope egosoft will make many more ships just like this one for x4.

Why on earth are there so many posts stating "If you don't like it don't use it". Iirc the op was "is this ship overpowered",which indicates that people are answering the wrong question (should i use a ship that i think is not balanced) would be the correct question for that answer
My mother always told me (before her kidnapping and subsequent death) that if you have nothing good to say do say anything at all.
Thankfully I never listened to her so here goes....
How the hell can a community get a developer to listen and change the way it balances it's programming without feedback from it's users. What use is "don't use it" as any form of qualified statement.
Therefore anybody who feels there contribution to this thread can only be this negative useless crap should turn around and face the wall and think about what they have done!
--------------------------------------------
btw, It's unfortunate that the M7 is potentially overpowered, If I (the worlds greatest X combat beta tester) could have had any input into the bala G testing i'd have made sure the ship purred, unfortunatly since i put my fist through my PC a few months ago X3 is a distant dream on this thing I must use now.
If you send me some money and lobby your friends to do the same I shall be able to get a new PC and thus get back into testing so I can have the M7 fixed for you.
You know this must be done for the simple reason that i've not seen a M7 or anything else to do with the update and this my Imperial friends is a travesty of justice

Re: Why????
Because you do not know if something is perfect/wining/whining/winning unless you test. And as LV pointed out, the OP question is very close to question: "is Hyperion perfect(ly balanced)?"Martin Logan wrote:Why test something perfect and change it![]()
Possible answers are 'yes' and 'no'. IMO, answer to this question is unfortunately 'no'. And since the answer is 'no', then Hyperion is either over- or underpowered. It is clearly not underpowered. Therefore, one should answer the OP's question with "yes, Hyperion is overpowered". One ship can be perfect only if all ships are perfect simultaneously. Thus, the problem may not be with that ship, but with others. And a change of others will affect the unchanged "perfect".
It is relatively easy to answer to question: "Do you feel that XYZ is right?". Just say 'yes' or 'no' as you feel. When asked from this crowd, we will get both answers. But it is rather hard to answer the inevitable followup question: "If 'no', what should be done about it?" And those answers will disagree even more.
Some suggestions, like pjknibbs', are easy to test. Modify TShips file and see if the result "feels right". A visit to Scripts&Modding forum should result in a heap of such modifications already. So you can test if a modder's "feel right" already matches your feelings.

I thought that the M7 was supposed to be the next-gen ship. It falls to reason that it should kick ass then. The thing that suprised me about it is that there was not introduction of a new weapon type with it. Although it is a beast of a mini-cap ship, shouldn't the next generation ship be better than any of the current ships?
I mean, in games like Wing COmmander, isn't the arrow far better than the original hornet? I would think that any next gen craft WOULD be imbalanced, becuase that's the point. Foraward striving to improve weapons payload, armor, shielding, speed, and manueverability. The thing that I may say that is a problem is that after you obtain the M7, that other M7s are not slowly integrated into the X-verse
. It's too bad that egosoft stopped at ONLY the player receiving the next gen craft.

M6 is hardly better than M3 (except out of sector of course), cause it has very low turning rates (especially centaur), making all front weapons nearly useless vs all smaller ships. so then what can i fight with an M6? I cant fight M5/M4/M3 cause they are too fast for the slow M6 and cant fight M2 cause they completely own him firepower and shieldwise.
Now comes the M7. I killed a Khaak M2 destroyer with it without even getting damaged. It can dock everywhere, is faster than nova so you can go hunt pirates and it kills 3 khaak cluster at the same time when you use its speed well. It has super turning rate so it can even dodge fire like an M3, even though armored almost like an M2.
I think M6 is too weak and M7 too strong, especially when player controlled.
Now here is how to kill khaak M1 and M2 with it: Jump in sector, put 8 projectile canons in the front. Order a hyper jump (no matter where) when at distance 2.5 km, then advance closer and fire while jumping. Recharge shields, come back and repeat. After 4 to 5 times its down.

No need to open a year and a half old thread to tell us that.
