Naturalpoint TrackIR support?
Hi!
I was just wondering if you ever have plans to add TrackIR support to X3? or in X4 if there will ever be one?
If you dont know what Im yapping about, go to http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/
I would suspect that it would only take a small patch to add the support into X3, and it would REALLY enhance the gaming expirience if it was added. Imagine dogfighting where you actually turn your head to look for the enemy around you.. hehe.. Would be awesome.
Best regards
Lars

In my X3 I cant map the POV control to anything else then the joystick hat on my Saitek X52. I think to get TrackIR support, the game either needs a module file from naturalpoint linked to the POV control, so the POV gets assigned to the axes from the TrackIR much like in a joystick. Last game that was released without TrackIR support was 18 wheels of steel: Haulin' and it was added in a small patch later.

I have a Saitek USB Platinum jostick. Originally the pov mimicked the cockpit look around keys on the numeric keypad. I went into the options and changed them to the strafe drive. Much handier in a fight. The auto aim arrows show you where the target has gone. Just my opinion, things move just to quick and sometimes just to much going on to look around.

I believe you can get the trackIR to map to mouse control, and in X3 you can map mouse input to cockpit pitch and yaw. That *should* do it.

If I could I would do it myself... From what I understand it is a 1hour job to add TrackIR support to a game if the POV control is assignable in the code..
For the developers, all info is available here: http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/05- ... n-sdk.html
I have sent Naturalpoint a request for the SDK...

If someone from dev net, or a developer from X3 could PM me about this, I would be very grateful. We could have a talk about adding this suppurt. Believe me, for the gamers that have TrackIR available, this would be a HUGE patch, that will enhance the gaming expirience very much. The difference between having TrackIR and not having TrackIR is huge. Once you try it and get used to turning your head, there's no way back to not having it.. hehe..

So there is absolutely no interest at all from anyone to have TrackIR in the game? strange..... Well.. Hope it will make it into X4 then if its ever coming... In a fighter/combat scenario in X3 or X4 it would really be good to have this. Makes everything so much more natural, as it is possible to turn head and look for the enemy. thats how it is done realistically in a fighter aircraft, and thats how it would be if someone was fighting in a spacefighter to...

X3 doesn't support TrackIR, therefore X3 players don't bother to buy it. X3 players don't own TrackIR, therefore X3 players don't demand TrackIR support!

I have a track-ir 3 and would love to see support added into an expansion pack or a sequel.
I used the mouse emulation to map the xy axis to control my view, and mapped the mouse buttons to my x36 it works and I can look around in the cockpit and also navigate the menus without ever touching the mouse although its really difficult to recenter and it just isn't as accurate and smooth as it could be if it was truly integrated.

There is, I believe, a Center POV control setting you can use in the X3 controls profile. Assign that to a spare joystick button and centering will be a bit less awkward.

I use TrackIR in ArmA, Grid, and FSX. It has really changed the way I play games as it frees up one of your controls, you don't even have to think to look around, or panic about having to centre your view again.
I definitely want TrackIR support for X3 and any other future X-Games (I'll buy them all!!)
Have fun all,
Brian
