Launched today with 5 wingmates. A glorious occassion.
Jumped into ..... and wing3 hit the gate and exploded.
Jumped into ..... today and wing 4 collided with a pirate and they both exploded.
Jumped into ..... todays and wing5 hit an asteroid.
Jumped into .... today and wing 2 collided with me.

Sounds like the Battle of May Island! (Look it up, you'll see what I mean ).
Oh well. That was possibly the most illustrious career of any X-Pilot to date.
Today, the Crossroads Company took 'delivery' of a brand new M6 class Argon Heavy Centaur Prototype. In honor of this Boron's historic adventure and masterful story telling, I hereby christen this vessel CRCO McSquid. May it RSLG with the best of them, hurl many explosives through the vacuum, and do honor to our noble friend. She is on her way to drydock as we speak for armament.
First, thank you for a wonderfully entertaining read. This was an excellently entertaining series of after-action reports, though truthfully, Squiddy lasted much longer than I thought likely, particularly after the other close scrapes.
Three suggestions for increasing danger:
A) Gazz's MARS enabled for enemy ships, and either Gazz's turret fix directly, or the 1.4 patch. Turrets will be much, much more dangerous, and this will also seriously counteract having missiles walk all over everything; many, many more credits per target will have to be spent in order to do real damage.
B) A Teladi start, and an absolute refusal to use any craft that's not a trading vessel of some stripe (i.e. a TL is one of the most dangerous ships you'd use) for any reason.
C) Piss off every single race except one, without exception. Take at least a potshot at anything you pass of anything except (favored race), always.
After spending a couple of days away from the forums this is a shocking and sad development. RIP Squiddy, may the Split choke on your deep fried tentacles during their victory celebration.
Also the link in my signature is now updated with the final hours of Squiddy's greatness. Notepad version because I'm not above it.
Overspecialize and you breed in weakness, it's slow death. -Major Motoko Kusanagi
too bad it he died that way maybe one of his admiral friends from his other flagships decides to go onto a journey to build a time machine and prevend Squid from ever takin that bloody mission......
Perhaps modifying the SETA into moving back in time and not forward
Well, I've just finished reading this thread and it's stopped me from actually playing TC for 3 days while I did so.
It's been a great read from beginning to end. Thanks very much NS.
Among other things it's also been a great intro to some of the new stuff that TC has to offer.
Off to download the new copy of ApricotSlice's handbook to see what's updated now.
Possible new rules:
Dead is Dead
Buying Ships IS allowed but race only.
Capped Ships of other races must be sold for scrap.
Ship equipment from other races can be used but no station purchases.
So if you start as Boron you can only use Boron ships and only buy Boron stations.
The jumpdrive got fried as he was jumping... thats even more unlucky than when I picked up some spacefuel accidentally only to hear betty say 'We are scanned'...

Fantastic, well written story. A shame Egosoft can't do a deal with Baen Books or somebody to get this published.
Essential reading I think for anyone moaning about how to get started or the games reviewers who don't "get" X.
Reminded me in some ways of the stories that came with Frontier, all those years ago.
Anyhow all hail the glorious Squid. He has returned to the starstuff whence he came. He will be remembered with honour and toasted tonight with Spacefuel (well, Marstons Pedigree) to celebrate his actual toasting at the hands of the Split.
Excellent storytelling Mr. Squiddy! Better than some professional authors I've read recently imo. You aren't by-chance one yourself? Also, have you engaged in this type of story-telling with other game genre's? Anyhoo, two things:
1) Crime never pays...eventually and
2) Glad its finally at an end so I can play some TC (compliment, trust me).
Looking forward to your next story. Btw...what other games do you play?
Thank you.
I haven't been keeping up since mid December, so it was a very interesting read coming back. Especially the part about "breaking" jump gates.
Interestingly enough, I made a silent prediction when I read the first few Squiddy episodes. I said to myself, "If anything ever brings this guy down it is guaranteed to be those friggin overpowered PBG's."
I honestly can't say that I am one bit surprised at what weapon finally took Squiddy out. Fired not by a Brigantine, nor a Khaak, a Xenon K, or even a Agamemnon. But from some scrub in a little fighter... <sigh>
