yes u can, but not with the Ship Creator alone. You can extract an existing ship and customize it, but u cant adjust the textures in the Ship Creator.
for that, you need to edit the body files and retexture the models, this is best done in a modeling package like 3DS Max.
the same is true for getting ships from other games too.
as for X2, i dont really know about the format for X2, i will be looking into sometime so the Ship Creator can read X2 ships

Can you give me some tips on how to export some ships into 3dsmax or ms3d files so I can convert them for Freelancer? For example the programs I need plugins and so on....and maybe even a few steps I need to follow to get the job done...this is a personal thing I'n not going to upload the ships on any site for others to download...I just want my fav X3 ships in my fav game Freelancer

hey cy...like the program but i think you could make it better by adding some type of feature (oi the ominous word feature) that would allow people to do basic modifications to ships say add wepons onto thier ships and maby turrets...also i thought of an idea to better your ability to use flight decks or not to use them is to have some kinda preview for it so the person can see what cockpit will be used with what ship and give them an option of some kind to choose if they want to keep it (say the cockpit of the bird of prey by MM) or to switch it out with the cockpit of some other ship (say a fighter M3 or smaller style)...i got a few ships that i want to have a flight deck for but the current ones supplyed are too limiting and id like to switch them with ones that allow me better view but yet keep the flight deck...
did i make any sence to ya??...anyways i thought somthin like that would be neat to have for us who want to keep our cockpits but yet done want some of the more annoying ones...

Nym182, all the guides you need are in the Tutorials Sticky in the forum, i suggest u start there.
Jiggaman, you can only set gun positions, u cant physically add new position to the ship, that requires a modelling package.
defiant1, what ur suggesting is far from basic, to add weapons points the program would have to be turned into a 3d moddeling program as well, which is alot of work. Also, viewing the cockpits, means it needs to mimic the X3 Graphics engine, again, this is alot of work to do. Too much to make it really worth while

Ship Creator Link
I tried to download the shipcreator from the link in http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=142136 which is a link to www.xpluginmanager.co.uk. For some reason i cannot get the site to work. Does anyone have a mirror or alternative download address?

I've downloaded the vorlon dreadnaught and I have it in game, however It's missing some textures. Also dl some of MM st models and they all appear black. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. The ship installer is in the X3 directory, using ddrs 2.4.1a. dled the ship files into ship installer->data->shipinstall. Any help would be appreciated.

I've run into a problem, i put in several custom ships, and all was going well, then i noticed half of them hadnt been set to a race. i went and set them, the re-inserted the files. I then loaded up my game to find that all the custom ships i had were all gone, and the blue print was a blank space, most anoying really.
Any ideas?

Am here to bug you again, Cycrow
A few questions for ya:
What is the best way to edit a ship that I installed? With me being OOS of the ship, and using the Import Ship Wizard. I've been toying around with your excellent program, but am really not sure as to what procedure I should follow for certain things.
Basically, I installed a ship to test it out. But I wanted to modify some of its settings. I uninstalled it, installed the updated .xsp file, but I had to repurchase the ship. How can I go about this procedure without having to buy it again? In other words, simply being able to update the ship.
Also, I see a lot of the plot ships and all the stock ships in the .cat file. If I used the wizard to import the settings of a stock ship, and saved it as an .xsp file and loaded it through the installer, would this cause any conflicts with the original settings of the ship?
How would you even disable a ship in the .dat (which does not show up in the Ship Installer list of ships) file to install
Hope I made SOME sense

instead of uninstalling then reinstalling the new one, simply reinstall the new and it will install the ship over the top and change the current one.
uninstalling and reinstalling will cause the ship to change its id, which will mean the new version will be classed as a completly different ship to the old one.
installing the old ships via xsp shoudlnt cause any problems, u will just get 2 versinos of the ship available, the original and the modified. So if you set them to the same name, it might get confusing, but they will still work as individual ships

Hi Cycrow,
Since you seem to have missed the question I asked in the other ship installer thread, I'll ask it here again just in case =/
Last week I spent a great deal of time trying to modify the stock Military Transport, specifically its armament. I'm not inexperience in modifying lasers for turrets (I've done it plenty of times with success), but I'll repeat my general process nontheless.
I imported the ship from the shipcreator mod (so I can extract the military transport), I got to customize menu and then used custom cockpits for all the turrets, then chose the lasers I want the turrets to use. Afterward I also increased the amount of guns on each turret by one, in the guns menu.
When I go into the game, I used the cheat script to create new ships to test. Everything that I modified (engine, speed, shield, weapon energy, etc) went into effect except the turret weapon changes. What's even weirder was that originally (vanilla) the turret laser for the 5 or 6 turret were all the same except one (so all can use BHEPT except one), but after the changes they can all use the same weapons (A and BHEPT).
Same thing happened to a Paranid Perseus that I modified and increased the rear turret to 2 (also with laser change). Laser options didn't change at all in-game (cheated new ship as well) and was the same as the original.
One thing to clarify though in case of misunderstanding is that I also did change their ship id to a new one.
Since this happened only on the ships that I have increased turret gun amount, and it just so happen I did it right after the update, I'm guessing it has something to do with increasing the guns or the update. I'm more leaning toward the former (modifying gun interfering with lasers). What do you think the problem is?
