I'd love to see squiddy round up all his resources and make a play for the Pirate M2.
It'll be a hardfight, so he'll need all his ships for support and fighter supression, maybe even his freighters ... (if hes going to gainen star).
It was the dream, the goal ... and Since hes been cut short on his life, seems only fair, what he has now, is used to try to complete his task

Great story, it is a shame that it has ended.
For a new start how about the Terran Defender start, the only ships you can buy
are the second hand ones, equipment has to be acquired not brought;
Failing that I think someone needs to make a custom Squiddy start - start off in
the Maelstrom with a under equipped Galleon and a few pirate m4's/m3's no
cash with everyone but the pirates and yaki hating you.

If you hadn't noticed, after taking your cash the ex-owner of said ship
will just jump in his space suit and jet off oblivious to the fact that you have a
cargo hold and some gaffa tape that's currently unused ;p

I can see it now. You're playing as a Tormented Teladi...as far as you're concerned, you might as well be stuffing buckzoids into those missile tubes rather than missiles! The darned things never hit anyway, so the only time you even have them aboard is when you've picked up a few from a fight and are taking them to an equipment dock for sale...CBJ wrote:Given the prominence of missiles in this story, how about a game involving a lead character with a pathological fear of missiles who refuses to use them under any circumstances?

no no, make it more relevent: friendly only with boron, HCP with CIG, IonD, and PBE or PRG, one M7M with ~20 boarding pods and a full of half trained mercenaries, and an Elephant"Fatboy" full of assorted missilestuman78 wrote:Failing that I think someone needs to make a custom Squiddy start - start off in

This story deserves to be "sticky" and promoted by everyone of us, that is we KNOW these games and HAVE TO promote them in our own ways, like NS understood and effectively acted in this spirit. NS did more for Egosoft on the moral level than all the money from us buying these formidable games did, in the material one.

Agreed. This should be stickied. This would be good for many things. It serves as a tutorial and a promotional tool for X3:TC.BeidAmmikon wrote:This story deserves to be "sticky" and promoted by everyone of us, that is we KNOW these games and HAVE TO promote them in our own ways, like NS understood and effectively acted in this spirit. Excellent series N-S! I too was coming by for daily updates in this thread. Thank you very much for entertaining me! When I acquire my first Minotaur I'll have to rename it to "Squiddy's Retort". Before this I was just giving them names like the ones you would find in an Ian M. Banks novel. (Excession is highly recommended to all you Sci-Fi lovers out there!)
Again, thank you very much for the great story. If you are a professional writer, please let us know, so I can go out and support your bad habits with a purchase.

A few have asked so this is the most recent save I had going at the time. I've resaved it in slot 1 so it's easy to find but be aware if you drop it in your X3:TC save folder it'll overwrite your first save slot so consider that fair warning.

No scripts running so it should work on most peoples machines and it'll let you have a nosy thru my complexes 'n' stuff.

This signature is here because it makes my posts look longer and therefore makes me seem like I know what I am talking about - which I do, honest!
For example, the Ray is the best M2 and a Falcon always beats the other M3s, see!
Hey, now that TC is out the Ray does seem to be one of the best M2's. Maybe I had better change my sig...

A terrible shame about the mishap there, but it's true that the Carrack has terrible shielding for an M7 (just caught up on what Squidy had been up to).
For a new start, I've got myself a humble recommendation.
I've been playing a "Pacifist" game where my special rule is absolutely minimizing my combat rating (Boring Boron start seemed most appropriate, though it can be done with any obviously). I have about 60M at the moment, a decent fleet (including an M7 and several M6), and am just starting up Ore deliveries to the HUB. Combat Rank is Rookie (60%) with a kill sheet of 10 asteroids and a single Blastclaw Prototype. Other then the BCP (who was killed under such exceptional circumstances that I made an exception), all kills triggered a reload from the last save point.
It makes combat (which I still get plenty of) considerably more interesting.

The problem with Pacifist games is that they probably make for a pretty boring read.
"Today I traded silicon to twelve stations. I made 100,000 credits!"
"Today I decided to dabble in computer components. Saw some pirates, ran away quickly."
"I bought a factory today, set it up in Herron's Nebula. Great stuff, credits are pouring in."

One thing I've thought about what would be fun to play is to start a game in a wing, and play everything with that wing. You can pretend you're just a member of this squadron of pirates or military dudes or something. Might even write a decent story.
Obviously you have to cheat a bit to get that wing going. Think I might do that tonight, see how that goes.
