Respect, N-S, for a job done so well for so long. Squiddy shall be remembered.
Personally, that's how I think it should stay. Just doing another Boring Boron start and slapping on the moniker "Squiddy MkII", I believe, would be an insult to his name and to his memory!
...But that's just what I think. I'd love to see what you can do with a fresh idea!
For now though I reckon you've earned a bit of a break
I have been following it since it was only only 2 pages long! Kept me from playing X3 many times with your extraordinarily lucky encephalopod antics.
CBJ I think Squiddy Mc Squid would be a good addition to the Boron names database for X3TC, if that is possible, in a bonus pack or a future patch. Just a thought.
60+ Pages and 100,000 views that has to be a record for a post like this.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against Principalities, against Powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places
For Squiddy MK II, I found the Terran start with the rules you already set to be a bloody pain in the bum, since the E/MP does too much hull damage to get many bails from fighters, you end up running a fleet of trader ships by the time the first fighter pilot decided to give you a bright shiney and new plane. Well. Not that bright. Or shiney. Or in fact new. Decrepit and bruised actually. Oh, and it can't mount any usefull weapons for capping... so you need to grab another.
However, since you're soooo much better at this than me, why not add this rule: use Terran ships exclusively. Capture Commonwealth ships, sell them at a Terran shipyard, and once you have sold enough Commonwealth scrap metal, buy a nice shiney Terran vessel te replace them. (It makes resupplying in Farnham's Legend somewhat harder than usual...)
We are all explorers of the deepest reaches of space.
We don't just watch space on our monitors and listen to the sounds in it:
We, all of us, each and every one of us, owns, to a man, as many operational Space Shuttles as NASA does.
Yes, we're all that awesome. Give yourself a hug.
This was a triumph, I'm making a note here HUGE SUCCESS...
Sorry for some reason I just had the ending song for Portal in my head when I read the Epilogue.
From someone else who followed this story with avid interest and whos day was made a little brighter by the reading of it, I say cheers to you NS and have a drink on me.
Great fun to read your story, I like your writing style
Really good timing with the ending too. Not really a short life, but it didn't overstay its welcome either. Looks like you entertained lots of people, and I'm no exception.
Very well done to you for all the effort you put in.
Thank you, NS for that very good story, well written with heart-stopping cliffhangers.
For your next story may I suggest a Elite like game ? That is you can't own factories (with the exception of the hub and PHQ) and much more restrictive : you can own only one ship ! Any spacecraft you capture has to be sold, or made your personal vessel. The start has to be a tough one, like the ones suggested earlier in the thread.
I have to admit that the only one ship rule may not suits well your intensive capturing style though... You decide
