Just a warning,

I just switched my game from modified to vanilla and the plugin manager just overwrite my save files with old ones and the ones I had are now gone.

Both the modified and vanilla directories have the same old save files in them.

:(

Although maybe it isn't the plugin manager only my autosaves have gone missing :/. Or does X do that when you start a new game without saving or docking anyway?

I had the same problem. I tried to make the AP directory the same as TC but it didn't seem to make a difference. I had to disable the manager in the mean time so it wouldn't overwrite my saves.

Came here to say the same thing. Just changed from Modified to Vanilla and it overwrite 70% of my saves with old vanilla saves. Now both Vanilla and Modified save folders have the exact same vanilla save files, even after changing back to Modified. Such a headache. :(

I`ve got an issue, with detecting existing X3 installations.

Plugin Manager v2.12
Locates only Reunion, and fails to find TC and AP.
OS: Win7 x64
Game version: STEAM

When attempting to manually add a X3 path - it fails to read it, with an error: Unable to locate X3.exe/X2.exe file, which makes sense, since I`m attempting to add X3TC.exe

FYI: I`m unable to locate folder "Egosoft" within my users My Documents container, so I was unable to delete/edit the pluginmanager.dat file.
This is a first-time install of the pluginmanager since deployment of OS.

Any help would be much appreciated.
***
Indeed, one of the forum stickies had the old version. Thanks!

Don`t blame the player if you can`t play the game.

Just a quick heads-up, Cy -
First off, thanks for this amazing tool! I'm pretty much in love with it. Just one little thing is bugging me a bit:
I have my install & program & game files located on a separate drive (D:\) from my System drive (C:\), expressly so when I disable all of the game-directory-screwing UAC stuff, it doesn't cause any issues.

However, every time I run your Plugin Manager (and every time I exit X3TC after having started it from there) it points out to me that TC is installed in a 'protected directory', popping up that warning message even though I've clicked 'suppress this in the future' every single time (except once when I tried clicking 'no' just to see if it made a difference, and it didn't.)

It's just a tad bit aggravating, because the popup-warning has the lowest priority automatically assigned to it, and doesn't appear on the task bar - so if it comes up after exiting X3, it comes up below all the other windows, and you've got to alt-tab to get to it.

I suspect it's just a matter of whatever flag 'yes, suppress this message' puts in the preferences not getting saved properly, or somesuch.

OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64, all game files are updated to the latest versions, and I'm using the latest, stable 1.40 version of the Plugin Manager. If there's any other info I can provide to help you track this down, please, don't hesitate to let me know.

Thanks again for everything!

if u've installed the games to a seperate drive and not to program files, then u shouldn't be getting that warning, so it only checks if its in program files.

the supression is a bug, and will be fixed in the next version

the spk libraries have been updated. If the auto updater is active, it should install it, otherwise, u could download it from here

http://cycrow.thexuniverse.us/SpkUpdater.exe

u'll most likly need to remove all ships and delete the files before trying to install any new ships

Can you please make this Windows 7 x64 Compatible? Right now it's trying to write the files to my System32 folder, instead of SysWOW64 (Where the spk.dll, etc files are installed from Plugin Manager).

Because of this, I'm getting an error shown HERE for several files while it tries to install.

Edit: Nevermind, I was able to just use 7-zip to open the exe and manually copy & paste the 2 dll files into my SysWOW64 directory.

it is windows 7 x64 compatable.
as thats what i use it on and never had a problem with it finding the DLL's

im not even sure i can force the installer to put them into SysWOW64, as apparently it chooses the system directory automatically

Cycrow,

I just downloaded and installed the 1.40 plug in manager (uninstalling the older one first) for use with X3AP.

It automatically installed the Community Plugin Conf 1.51, Hotkey manager 1.21, and the Ware Manager 1.01; however it seems as though there is a newer version of the Ware Manager, 1.10. When I tried to update through Plug In Manager, I get a Unhandled exception error (Details Below).

If I click to continue, nothing happens. If I attempt to install Ware Manager 1.10 manually, it says it is for the wrong game, X3TC. I don't want to screw up my installation, so I'll wait for a response.

I only have the Universal Best Buys (alex2069) installed, which seems to work fine, but I want to install a couple of other mods off the community list.

Thanks, Waster

How to disable the Warning: Game directory is in a protected directory message

Post by pepperg »

Even though I have selected to run the Plugin Manager w/ admin access rights within the application properties screen, this message appears everytime I start the application.

Is there any way to disable this warning notice?

It's in Program Files on the D:\ drive, which is a non-system drive and where Steam plays nicest with everything else. I still hear the horror stories about folks who try to use Program Files on their System drive for anything...well, anything, period, but usin' it on a non-System drive has never given me any trouble.

In any case - good to know! Thanks muchly for the quick response, Cycrow. Keep up the great work!

Cy was just answering me about that, as well - the lack of 'suppress this' sticking is a known bug that will be corrected in the next version. Until then, just keep on clicking 'yes' each time.

if the program files on D just a folder u've made or is it the one windows actually uses for program files.

i assume its the first, in which case its simply the name that the plugin manager is picking up on, so you can safetly ignore it.

if it is the proper windows program files however, then it'll still be a protected directory, regardless of what drive its on. But if its working and installing properly, then again, you can safetly ignore it

The error message is pretty clear. it cant access the Downloads folder for some reason, most likly due to access rights.
thats where it downloads and installs updates/new packages from

to fix it, u'll have to try and set the access rights for that directory to allow the plugin manager to write to it.

u could also try just removing it and see if it can recreate it for you.

otherwise, it shouldn't be causing any other problems, just wont allow you to auto update until its fix

in the next version ill catch the error and put a proper error message on it

Yeah, it's one I've made. Windows has its own Program Files and Program Files (x86) directory on C:\, but let's just say that it's very lonely in there. The OS doesn't use the Program Files directory on D:\ for anything I don't tell it to, which is just how I like it. But it's unsurprising that it's picking up the name, and I get why it's happening - so since you're aware of it, I'll just cross my fingers, grin and bear it, and thank you for your time!

When trying to update the spk's to 1.84 I get and error on the spk.dll

"deletefile failed; code 5"
"access is denied"

Even when i give it access rights.

It also fails updating the plugin manager to 1.41 from 1.40

same error, never had this problem before though with previous auto updates....

Am I going to have to move my steam install folder too?

1.41 is now available.

this should fix the surpression message for protected directories
also the access denied error when updating packages
and fixes removing ship files when uninstalling (they were being left in the fake patch)

i assume u have nothing else running like the game launcher, package creator or spk explorer ?

deleting the file isn't too much of a big deal, did the install otherwise go ok ?

ie, if you run the plugin manager, is it now at 1.41 and are the spk libraries at 1.84

most likly the error is that it couldn't delete the files it downloaded, these actually get downloaded to the temp directory
