The first sign of trouble is when I start to get a black screen when jumping,
this will happen a couple of times before it get's to a point where it can lock up any time. It seems to happen most often while in SETA with the sector map or another menu open. I can tell that my save is fubar by opening the info screen for one of my complexes to watch production and engaging SETA, it will lock in this instance without fail and usually within 30 seconds. In my last save, I was docked at a station and scarcely have enough time to undock before it locks up.

I did a scan for RRF skirmishes in the save before the completely broken one and saw that ATF, Argon and the pirates were all engaged in the same sector. The sector was the last Terran Unknown Sector where the ATF RRF base is.

I warped to the sector via the cheat menu and there were no Argon or pirates, but there were hundreds of ATF ships jumping in and out so fast that the sector looked like Christmas lights. I tried destroying all of the ships and buildings via cheat to see if I could unscrew whatever was screwed, but it didn't change anything. I don't know if this is normal behavior or a symptom of whatever the problem is.

I did a one-at-time mod installation, and when I installed this, it created the problem with the 1st mission where you're supposed to escort the Terran diplomats. A ship appears (the one with the blond-hair woman pilot), and you're supposed to follow her, but what happens after I install this mod is is that the blond-hair woman pilot keeps jumping her ship in and out of Omicron Lyrae at different points every second or two, making it impossible for me to follow her. Does anyone else have this problem? All other mods I've installed are minor mods except the Race Response.
Yeah I had the same problem with my RRF game. Didn't connect at the time that RRF could have been the issue...

I'm afraid I'm getting the same issues Lefthandblack and Phobocaster reported earlier: sudden freezes, locking the game completely, with no obvious reason. Sometimes when entering a new sector, but sometimes when just flying around my merry way, having a smoke, or even docked; seems more likely in crowded sectors, but I've had it happen in Danna's chance yesterday, in MiTon's refuge some time earlier. (And very repeteadly in Legend's Home, Aladna Hill, Akeelas Beacon today, which make a bit more sense).

I had it happen randomly some time ago; suspected I had made some mistake when upgrading RRF or configuring it, so I uninstalled it (through menu and all) for testing, played a bit, no crash. Still, the mod's awesome, so I wouldn't consider playing without it -> reinstalled it and played. Had a freeze once in a while, but nothing unbearable. Now it's just got unplayable... :x Just to be sure, I tried uninstalling RRF completely an hour ago, and just played for about 45 minutes after that without a problem.

Of course this quite sounds like the system getting overloaded... But my computer should be able to deal with this, it's not a monster but it's above average I'd say. Nothing that should drain the CPU that much; only other script-intensive plug-in I have installed would be Pirate Guild. So, I don't know - I'd say (but it's quite a blind guess) there's some kind of bug triggering with RRF? I tended to notice quite a lot of capital RRF ships around lately, to the point that I wondered id they were not duplicating.... Of course, if there was such a bug, many other users would have reported the issue, though, whereas 99% seem to be fine and happy.

Anyway...? I don't know if I could do something more to help pinpointing the (hypothetic) issue, but I hope this little report might help..... And again, great mod (so far ;( ), I hope I'll be able to come back to it again soon! XTC just seems dead and quiet without it...

EDIT: Actually, I don't know what's gone wrong at all, as the issue persists after a (clean, as far as I can tell) uninstall of RRF. Although less often. Most races sectors seem to be litterally crowded with large ships roaming around aimlessly - after some time and some freezes, I decided to cheat-destroy bunches of them to see if it could solve a part of the issue, but I happened to instantly freeze when trying to destroy certain of them.

I checked the script editor, and still see bunches of RRF scripts registered there, although the files have been removed: none "on stack", but hundreds occurences on the third column. Normal, not normal? I've no idea, I'm just reporting and trying to fix my problem, here. When checking the "active tasks" on the script editor, I had dozens of RRF scripts registered there, especially "UFO.recover [something...] = null". Again, no idea if this is expected or not. Looks to me like something glitched in RRF, OR I did something terribly wrong when I updated it a few weeks ago (although I don't think I did?), OR there's a serious bug in RRF (etremely unlikely, Cycrow would have spotted it long ago and/or many users would have reported it)... OR something's broken in my install and it's completely unrelated to RRF  In which case I apologize for the hijack...

Tested a new game without RRF (but exactly the same install and active scripts): as far as I can tell, everything seems fine. I was thinking about starting over anyway, but I wish I could know what the problem is/was exactly.... I'll keep these savegames as backups in any case, if they can be of any help to figure out the problem? (again: IF the problem is related to RRF, and IF I'm not the only one experiencing this issue... And IF LV bothers ;) )

don't worry about the 3rd non active stack some rrf scripts will be called many times but they terminate instantly

the freeze on cheat death is helpful though, it appears that a ship has a dodgy script attached to it's ship.killed.signal via this report so if you could point me in the direction of a particular race or ship that would mean i could fix quickly

if it's random i'd need to drill into the signals though and it could be a combo of other scripts causing it as i've not had a single freeze in my build

Ah? Well it happened concistently with an Argon Cerberus and with an Argo Centaur, in Helena's Fortune. Couldn't reproduce it with any of the Threshers, Titans or Colossus which were flying around there, although I didn't try that really systematically.

I'm getting the same issue, however it may not be related to RRF.
I've been playing with the effects file (SRM trails looks horrible) so that the ships will have lensflares without becoming glowing blobs. Upon restoring an older effects file the constant crash upon entering any sector with an RRF skirmish was fixed.

However,
one annoying thing is happening to me quite often:
RRF ships agro me when they are blue and if I comm them when they are red and succeed in turning them blue by appologizing, they still attack while blue.
This only happens when my notoriety is below -333 (making trade docks red).
I'll continue troubleshooting and report back if I find the cause.

that's good to hear, i've had no issues with it while having it on background testing (writing other scripts but rrf on) i've also spent more hours wild goose hunting non imperial related bugs than most scriptors have spent writing their own scripts ;)

I'll continue to monitor though

the switch to red has always been something i've not managed to master completely, there's hardcode in them their woods somewhere. have a look also at the relation of the ship 1,0,-1 to player will you, if it's -1 there's the answer if not it's a bigger problem

the ships are programmed to reset to 0 periodically so if it is -1 you may just have to steer clear for a while

I'm having the same problem as someone above, starting the Terran plot as a non-terran has the blond-haired Scabbard jumping around in Omicron Lyrae.

Going to disable+uninstall then fly in and do the quest.

And after the plot, hopefully I can just save + restart the game and RRF will reinstall itself, since I didn't remove the setup file, just disabled/uninstalled ingame.

Also it's true there are a bunch of "tagless" capitals, just named "Argon Colossus" and the like, in Omicron Lyrae there are 2 M1s and 8 M7s of different races in there.

EDIT: Can't make the plot work, seems it keeps jumping and some argon ships are attacking it, I don't know why. It's those damn tagless ships that are sticking around.

Gunna start over.

Same scripts, minus RRF, plot start works fine.

That said, anyone use RRF with the BalaGi/Final Fury/other plots?

One quick question: is it normal that all ATF-Forces are hostile when I have the highest rank at ATF? How can I change it to friendly? They are already set to Friend in the menu.

Setting Terran - Argon relations to friendly fixed it for me.

The Xenon have invaded and destroyed the taldi trading stations in Grand Exchange and Scale Plate Green and I was wondering, if those stations will eventually be replaced with new one's or are they game forever?

Kind of a weird problem here , i use the salvage command software addon thing and i claimed an ejected pilot so it sends him somewhere i get rep and a little credits, well i did this in Legends Home and everything in there turned hostile and every argon race respond ship now wants to turn me into space dust :/ , anyway to reset or something ? i just wont claim astronauts anymore :P

*EDIT* Reloaded previous save but then a few hrs later happened again with teladi :/ ive tried the resetting relations they just return hostile again and ive literally done nothing that would piss the teladi off and i didnt claim anything this time :/

the freezing but i am yet to be satisfied is down to RRF on it's own so i have done nothing. with just under 800 downloads of 2.2 i'd expect many more "not working posts" there was also some comment a couple of pages back about there being another plugin possibly causing it so i'm not going bug hunting

Until my rrf build starts freezing you have 2 options if your game is freezing

1. don't use it
2. don't use it

:)

i've probably spent about 50 hrs testing various rrf builds over the years for bugs that ended up being nothing to do with the plugin because person A pitched up saying "rrf has crashed my game" and others automatically read this and ended up adding 2+2 = 5

there's always IR to use as that is being worked on still.

not sure if script compatiblity or what, but my friendly RRF end up spaming 2 gazillion missile at me, even they appear friendly on my scanner. and i didn't even fire a single shot..

and another strange problem i encountered: when RRF spawn, it is hostile to me on my scanner even they suppose to be friendly RRF.

Hi LV

Is there a way to disable RRf for creating a playing fleet .
Kinda annoying when I doing some trading in a non combat ship in a friendly sector. Which turned to hostile from the moment that RRF decide to create a Player fleet to invade a a player friendly sector.

are you actually saying it creates a fleet of PLAYER owned ships to attack a sector, if so weird, should not happen but i don't have player owned sectors so i assume it's possible although very improbable?

expnobody

look at the ships FF settings and see if player is -1 (scroll down it's info menu) you may need to open the main SE interface and set "additional ship information" to ON to see it.

if it's not -1 let me know, if it is they don't like you and what do you expect a no gun holding missile frigate to do.

The RRF code is as follows

Code: Select all

001 If PLAYER can fire a shed load of missiles at an NPC ship
002 NPC ships do the same back = TRUE

yea, the FF setting Player is 1, and that M7M is still spamming missile at me like theres no tomorrow

weird thing i found.
when a sector is under attack, i went there and help them to defend the sector, after all enemy are cleared, all the stations and ships turn hostile. then i used cheat script to make them friendly again, but they will still spam missile at me.

and most of the time, when RRF force arrived, they are hostile to me by default, and when i use radio to contact those ship's captain, i only have 1 option: Weapon system was in error. Standing Down. (which means i shot them before i even have my turret firing at anybody?) :?

PS: i don't have a bad rep with that race's RRF.

Yes, It did, and i have positive standing withe that race too.

It created a set random ships with capitals inside the sector. sector owner respond immidiatly and set player to hostile  result the race reconice you as an agressor.

I had this only ones since I started a new game with this version and I playing now 3 weeks with this save and version. It happened to me once in an older version with an older save.
