Guys I can't fight that. You give arguments that are so far fetched that is unbelievable.
Any picture reduced in size "improves" its sharpness (up to a point, I am not saying that making it 20x20 pixels will show better picture). Try it yourself!
Because the thumbnail software of the forum reduces images to 384x216 is not a clue to any mystery. The "th1" (i.e. thumbnail 1) in the file-name should hint you. Sorry to break your bubble once more.
BTW there is no smartphone maybe over 50 euro that has so low-resolution display nowadays.
Why on Earth would they take a snapshot on a normal screen, move the file to a low resolution phone (like some older Nokia or something, none of the modern ones of the last 4-5 years) and then re-grab the image from that device... (why? Wouldn't moving the original screenshot to Photoshop and "tweaking" it a bit be enough if they wanted to trick us?)
Unbelievable guys. You could write a book with all this. Agatha Christie beware!
Un-be-lie-vable.
Now for some other things I read:
- Do we know if Egosoft will use DX11 or not?
- Do we KNOW if this snapshot is in DX11 or not?
- Can you give me an example of an "ugly" DX11 game that this snapshot blows out of the water?
- Do you know if X:R will implement new AI? (I mean AI that we couldn't have in current X series with patches)
- Do you know if X:R actually uses physics?
- Do you know if X:R will be moddable or you just base this on what is happening with current X series?
Please let me know which of the above are your theories and which are based on Egosoft talk.

Yes, we're not idiots. What we're saying is it could have effectively been scaled up from the thumbnail, as it were.
I still find it amusing how you keep posting "It's only a theory, everyone can have theories!" and then try as hard as you can to completed invalidate anything anyone else says.
- They're not using DX11, if I remember reasing that right.
- ^
- No, because we can't see the full game yet.
- Well that depends on where you draw the line between new and patched.
- Of course it will. Without physics, nothing can move.
- I believe they've stated they want to continue as they always have done with letting the community have fun.
Not that you'll believe it all.

@nls,
have you read or re-read the stickies recently.
1) they are using dx9 and will possibly update to dx11 for those that can use it.
2) as the game engine is dx9 and it has been clearly stated its from a test video the image will be in dx9 as taken from the game engine.
3) cannot name any dx11 offhand so no
4) as the game is completely new, the ai will be new. if after its finished being tested and rebirth is out, i have no idea if the programming languages are are compatible and to be honest why the hell would they?
5) physics is included in everything to some degree.
6) its states in the stickies that they intend X:rebirth to be moddable, just using a different language.
if you actually bothered to read the information and stopped being so negative towards to almost any post on the forum you already would have your answers. (i am fully aware and glad of freedom of speech and everyones right to to thier own opinion and to express it as part of a discussion on any given forum should it be on topic of said forum, but continued negativity is as you would expect depressing). Sorry mods in advance.

Haha what a quote!!sitting on a cornflake waiting for this game
Regarding the resolution - why would it be scaled up from a thumbnail? You'd think they'd come up with a better way of transmitting information to the public. Is it possible that this image is only a portion of a larger screenshot, where other things were taking place, but for some reason they didn't want to show us? Wouldn't that explain the lower resolution?[/i]
(Oh no, you forgot to close the parenthesis! Someone might get in!

@Sibilantae If that's true, maybe they will show the whole thing piece by piece. (Hmm, I wonder what we might be getting next week!)

Haha, set up a situation with lots of exciting things happening = screenshot farm~maybe they will show the whole thing piece by piece
I hope so, but of course the low res is a bit of a downside. Then again, I don't think we need worry that the highest possible ingame resolution would be, what, 640x480 or something =P

Yeah it would be ironic to have such a small resolution with graphics that look this good.Sibilantae wrote: ...Then again, I don't think we need worry that the highest possible ingame resolution would be, what, 640x480 or something =P

i don't know why people are so fixated and obsessed by the resolution of the pics rather than the content.
I am certainly more interested in what is going on in each pic than how it looks at this stage as i know that when it is playing on my pc on my monitor without having gone through several processes to become a screenshot it will look absolutely amazing.
Every previous X-game had quality graphics for the capability of the time and existing engine. In todays market when consumers have choice no developer can afford to release a bad looking game. (yes can fix game play issues with patches, but will still look good while crashing).
So please lets get away from the resolution debate.
The screenshot does look great, we can see the badly damage ship on the right in good detail, the start of the final explosion, the wave of force eminating out from the dead ship.
The ship on the left we can indentify its badly damaged with parts on fire / smoking and can see the outlines of the surface elements detailed where the turrets would be, lets focus on things like that.

@Jester6225: It's far easier to debate content which is discernible than content which is obscured. It's not so much the fear of a graphically inferior product but more the frustration of not being able to make out if it's a wreck or an asteroid (greatly exaggerated for emphasis).
Add the high expectation created by previous products.
Off course I do agree with you that the discussion should be kept clean and factual. You can provide an opinion but state it as such and don't attack anyone else for doing the same.
Back on topic: I'm quite curious if this screen shot is it or if it's part of a demo we'll be seeing soon.

To end the resolution discussion.
The orignal screenshot was taken in 1280x720 with 4xSGSSAA and 16:1 AF. Of course all on highest Details. I used Fraps for recording.
Due to the video compression and the upscaling to 1080p there are some artifacts.
Within the next 1-2 days there I will release another screenshot here.
Stay tuned.
