@BlackRain: Do you get to collect £200? ;)

In all seriousness though, to me the published "draft" change log indicates the next patch is worth the wait. In addition, from certain hints from Egosoft personnel, I suspect a lot of the reasons for the delays may be down to game save compatibility (i.e. loading existing saves). Also at least some of the changes appear to be not technically insignificant.

I saw a few things in the patch notes related to the economy, but does any of that fix the full scale stop people have been reporting after a while of playing?

Or is that related to some other underlying supply and demand issues that have yet to be addressed?

as blackjail also known as blackrain has said, they will use pancakes to balance the economy.

I know you guys are having fun with pancakes, but I am actually wondering if this will be fixed this time around or if its planed in for the future. I have been putting off trying the game again until the economy works.

At this point, it looks like some fixes will help the economy to be a bit more transparent (hopefully a bit easier to understand our interactions with it), the added shipyards may create a bigger sink for material use and there are couple of other potentially helpful fixes.

I doubt it will be a complete fix but once more people start to beta- and release-test the final beta version, it will help us and Egosoft see how things shake out to help identify further improvements. If you keep an eye on the public beta area after the private beta is released, it will probably help you decide whether to try it or not.

Anyway, I will try it... my economy isn't stoped for now but quite "engorged" for some parts... Any economy improvements are welcomed has my 3 earlier starts lead to eco saturated....

So I see great promisses in the changelog and hopefully trust S&M shipyards and few other stuff will help unlock eco a bit...

Keep on good work and let us try it!

I have found the economy moving in my game but for most goods most of the time it appears to be in a form of recession with few decent profit opportunities.

I wonder if the majority of those reporting a stopped economy have also been over-using boarding or boarding lots of trade vessels (Riever Titurels excluded) as I have managed to avoid the necessity of such activities (no mods and no game save edits either).

Iam also not boarding anything and the economy works quite well.
Some wares are hard to get, but I found a Xenon K flying around Energy Arrays so that might be the problem why they don't get to their destination... Since then the production of Reinforced Metal has improved a lot.

But I'd recommend anyone to somehow get a trade agent aboard every Albion station. It helps by a GIANT bit.

When my game economy stalled, I traced it down to LOTS of ships that were stalling in space. Basically, over time, I noticed that both the Engineer and Defence Officer stopped working, so no repairs and no shooting. When, finally, the Captain stopped working too, the ship was dead in space.

This had a cascade effect over the entire game universe. While I could "reset" my ships by removing and re-assigning the failed crew member, there was no way I could do this for NPC ships.

Working with a couple of the ES devs I provided saves for them to analyse. As I back up my saves after each play session, I sent my final save from each day of a couple of weeks of play. They found that at some point something had corrupted my save in such a way that it caused this bug. Every subsequent save and reload made the issue worse.

In the end, I reverted to a much older save that did not exhibit the issue, and things have been ok since. As to what caused the corruption we were not sure. Some artefact of repeatedly patching a game originally started in an older version maybe, bad save-game editing (it can break things if you get it wrong, but my edits - i.e. fixes when things broke - were fine) or possibly, but very unlikely, a PC IO error.

Regardless, after reverting to an older save things remained fine - patching up to 2.2 as we are now, did not see the issue re-occur. However, I do plan to check very carefully for any ship crew reverting to "none" post the next update, just in case. We had gone through a phase of regular updates at the time, some introducing new bugs. I hope the longer time taken for 2.5 will mean no such issues...roll on the Beta!

Yeah, it's probably a grand task keeping save game compatibility between patches in a complex universe.

@RoverTX - I think it's fair to say the the Pancake Patch, while addressing a few bits and pieces, will not fix the economy. By all appearances its focus is on look & feel plus accessibility with the menu rework fix being the major overhaul. While these changes are sorely needed we'll have to await more patches to see these fundamentals addressed. We're also assuming / hoping what they've done has been done well..

The main exception is trading small freighters - and their manufacture in stations - which may have a pretty fundamental impact on the economy depending on the implementation and how much of a problem distribution was/is. It would be overly hopeful to expect the economy to be fixed by this though.

That said, if the economy is (understandably) your priority then maybe wait for the subsequent patch or at least check out the forum post release.

I precise that, in my game, Economy is quite fne... I can find trades to do with a reasonable profits... I just see a very slow general economy....

I just got the URVwarefare and a cobstruction workshop from OL in devries for now and those two are trading few things frol time to time... my next station will be a waterplant as the one in devries is dry of ice and doesn't seems to be refilled anyway so i want to keep it this way for mine to have the monopoly on water in devries even if there is only 3 stations buying water in devries...

will feedback when I'll be further involved in the economy...

And still waiting for thz patch too!!

If the root cause of the economy issues experienced by at least some is down to stalled scripts as it appears to be in Scoob's case then v2.50 may partly address the economy issues.

In short, I do not believe any of us (in the community) are truly qualified to assess whether or not any given user's issues with a broken economy are going to be addressed either in part or in whole from the given draft change list.

Only a trial of the forthcoming patch will be able to say for certain. It allegedly will improve AI behaviours (based on the change log).
