Well not really my type of music but I can see why people like it. Very suitable for X.

Personally, I'd like something either a little more classical or more Hard Rock :)

One thing confuses me though, I can play DVDs on this system extremely smoothly but for some reason the 640x480 version of X3 movie is rather jerky. Ive have never seen AVI run so badly on my system.

Can anybody explain why this is the case ?

Is it a high detail rate or something ?

The 640x480 WMV version is a whopping 8,219kbps and 30fps!

WOW!

All I can say is WOW. Thank you Egosoft for making the perspective and/or size more of a selling point. I rememebr the first time I played Freespace 2 and the large ships in that. It really made you feel a bit vulnerable, which is good.

The music was VERY good. I sure hope the new songs in X3 will be a lot longer than the ones in X2. Can never have enough of a good thing. Love the whales too, very nice touch.

A couple of questions though:
  • Will the stations have particle effects? Like steam blowing out of a valve, ect.

Will they be a little dynamic? I know we will see ships going in and out, but what about lights turning off and on? Little guys in spacesuits repairing things? Ships being moved by space-tugs? Small harvesters mining asteroids?
Sorry, getting carried away, can't expect X3 to have every single bell and whistle people can think up.

Anyway, great looking so far. You will get my hard earned $$$ once it comes out.

I wonder what the collector's edition will have in it? :?

hmm, I didnt bother trying with the DIVX 5 encoded movies. I went for the 113mb and 233mb movies of WMV format, the 113 movie ran fine on my comp, but the 233 didnt. but my dad has a 3ghz 512mb and the 233mb ran fine, and with his 19" monitor, OMG OMG OMG ! :D :P wow, it looked beautiful.......

I tried to capture this scene as a gif with virtualdub but my card doesn't capture video, but did anyone notice the super high speed movement of a ship in the upper right corner?

Around 48 seconds into the film, and not the one that was undocking- I don't know what could have caused that- perhaps the movements were scripted- that would explain the smooth movement of the ship piloted through the asteroid field- so the computer just yanked the ship to where it needed to be, ignoring game dynamics. Must've been some insane g-forces.

Need I say, the track was absolutely adorable. I adored how we were pulled around the station's side and at the docking port, cueing the ladies who vocalized beautifully; I've played the track 5 or more times in the span of two days- I'll try my best not to overplay it :)

Planets were absolutely marvelous. They were huge! I particularly favored the point where the ship was undocking- whatever ship it was, may I say it certainly was attractive. I loved the burst of speed, certainly a welcome change to the previous geriatric level of activity- not to say that some ships didn't have speed or that the speed wasn't suited to the universes size- it's simply that there was a lack of intense agility and momentum.

But what really caught my attention at that moment was the size of the planet. I got lost trying to take in the whole scale, it really felt like I was looking down in through the atmosphere. It was immense and certainly euphoric!

All and all, it was a great video. I'm sure you are estatic to release this baby and I look forward to it. :D

maybe he was refering to a collectors edition of X2 seeing as i would guess a collectors edition of X3 would be down to the publishers rather than egosoft themselves...

Thanks ESD, I'll try the wmv version my self

It has to run better than the AVi version (listed as DIVX on the site).

The avi versions are encoded as NTSC - maybe causing some difficulties in PAL regions? Just an idea.

I can play the WMV version no problems in Europe. The DivX one is horribly jerky, even on an Athlon 64 3000+ 1GB ram ATI9800pro.

Awesome stuff. My friend, who has never played X said it didn't tell her anything, and i sorta agree that the video is more meant for fans than attracting new people. The rolling demo for X2 had a maybe broader appeal.

Anyways a very beautiful clip. :)

Not the most exciting movie, but I loved the music. The game is certainly looking good.

Ran the 640x480 AVI version in WMP9 in a PAL region with no problems at all.

Well the WMV version in 640x480 runs very smoothly with no loss of quality that i can see. The DIVX version was extremely jerky.

Looks dam cool too.

PS I still think you greenies are bunch of teasers :)

1gb of ram advisable beacause 512 is very low i couldn't run serveral games on my pc with 512mb of ram

if you buy 1gb ram make sure u buy 2X512 and put in dual channal to get an extra preformace boost
on my pc it give's a 5fps extra in X2 so not bad plus it is cheaper

They're being played on a computer which is attached to a monitor. There is no such thing as an NTSC/PAL distinction in that case--a monitor is a monitor no matter where in the world you purchase it.

That is what I thought.
