in one of the first movies Bernd did, the map interface is demonstrated on a functional level. Detailing how you can multi select schips seen and orders. How it information scales on zoom level. Giving commands with mouse through the map.
I'd say they covered that. There are also a few snippits of the rest of the interface but those are still quite limited. The Telady ship thing had screen screen shot of a menu and I remember a early version of the trade menu was presented.
The amount of info that has already been presented is sizable to say the least!
Don't get me wrong I am expecting a boat load of bugs and missing features during release. But that for me is a part of Egosofts charm. They always release something buggy and then work like mad ego's to get things resolved for at least the first year.

Bernd also stated in the video information about the HQ would be soon to follow. Personally can't wait for that.
I hope it'll be a module you add to a station or that you can extend it with station modules!

The HQ would have to be very 'Unique'. Not just in it's design, but UI features need to make it a cut above your average station.
A Unique Station and calling it a "Headquarters" wont cut it, even in it's day the Headquarters in TC/AP had things like Reverse Engineering, Paint Jobs for Ships etc.
It would have to be somewhere that you can issue all kinds of awesome commands for your fleets and stations that you can't anywhere else.
Maybe it's where you do your Research for Teleportation?
Now that would be interesting that your HQ has a Research and Development Department?
But we will have to see what Bernd has for us?

Exactly. Egosoft is doing a great job giving us the information about the game so far. It's all about talk but not a single mechanic was shown. This bothers me a lot. Like I said this situation is very similar to X-Rebirth where you hid the true status of the game.

So added up, these are almost 5 hours long presentations detailing nothing, BUT PURELY THE GAME MECHANICS. Good job with your narrow field of view, though.
I'm trying not to 'whiteknight' for Egosoft, but you are posting so unreasonable opinions, it's unreal.

Wow, I'm watching this video for the fifth time and it really give me the old wibes that I felt playing X-BTF, X2 and X3...but never felt when playing XR.
The music, the models, interface, even station landing pads looks epic (I hate station interiors in XR)!
If X4 will be as good as I hope I'll buy new laptop just for it

Also interios are not fully out - see 3:05 with nice office with window to docking port.
Last, but not least - it might be they will have more detailed interiors for player HQ as this would be only one station in which player will spend a lot of time and many empire management features could be put as special rooms in the HQ.

This is the chance to show the game in greater detail. To show "finding hidden crystals in asteroids" is more then the boring exploration minigame in the X-Rebirth release version. To show "plant bombs with your space suit" is more than a simple button press. To show anything.
Do I have to remember on X-Rebirth? "We really want you to feel small"... in this one and only air vent with absolutetly no purpose.

Considering everything is still work in progress at this point, it would be borderline misleading to show features as granted, promised features or not. It's entirely possible that the mechanics of such features will change completely.
The previous presentations showed the core mechanics of the game, that are still bound to change as their WIP nature (as they mention in the videos), but at least they are implemented already. The new features might not be ready yet.
Aaaalso, it's probably not cheap to have your game advertised on gamescom, . Nowy imagine that they start detailing all the features of X4. Could be hours long, and the longer it is, the more expensive to broadcast.

There may well be more to show than that, but not in this particular video. There will undoubtedly be more information between now and when the game is released, but there is a limit to how much time can be put into making videos rather than actually developing the game. There is also no benefit in giving detailed information about features that are still subject to change, as doing so would do absolutely nothing to "build trust".LittleBird wrote:But do you really have not more to show on top of that?

There is, however, a simple solution if the considerable amount of information we're putting into the public domain is not enough for you: wait until the game is released.

Have to admit tho if there using wip or alpha this late of 2018 then im a little worried that its not coming this year. They should be mostly done and just polishing stuff and testing now or very soon as they need to do a solid few months of testing of it been in a gold state then shipping it. I doubt the gamescom footage is that old.

Another thing I would to see you to present, is the features related to people or workforce as it has been introduced.
Will we have to transport people between stations to increase their workforce, specialy in sectors with few populations? That would bring a real usage for TPs and boarding them to sell the passengers as slaves in pirate stations could have a real impact on the game and the economy. That would be huge for immersion.

The press has received this video and footage of the game some time before the Gamescom started in order to prepare an article. Also, it definitly took some time to write, record and cut the footage.

While I agree it would be cool to see more of the *management* interfaces in action, several hours of in-game footage (with all of its alpha/beta issues fully acknowledged and on display) can hardly be called a media blackout.
It strikes me also that the emphasis being placed on the new shiny sector map should be a strong indication that we'll be doing a LOT of our property management through that interface. It will probably be wise to pay a lot of attention to how the map is being used in upcoming streams/footage.
