Yeah I bought the voice pack for voice attack, but to be honest I've pretty much scrapped it now, I got tired of ASTRA waffling on about some nonsense whenever I tried chatting with a friend.fiksal wrote:ah... have you guys seen or tried this?
is it really that well done from a simple to voice command software to full on library and a chat bot?

I've tried it and it's fine on the Basic Profile, but on reflection it's probably just as easy to set the profile up yourself if you don't need the audio feedback (some of it does clash with in game sound and it will be said even if the command cannot be performed for some reason). I've set separate commands for left, front, right, focus and simplified some of the voice commands to simple one word commands. A lot of the set up commands do the same thing (ie. "J" for FSD drive is set as "Jump" to start and "Exit" to exit but the only difference is audio the profile just presses "J"). As Avis said (and he's usually right) Astra does start to get annoying after a while and I'm thinking about modifying the profile to remove some of ASTRA's more annoying audio feedback.Avis wrote:Yeah I bought the voice pack for voice attack, but to be honest I've pretty much scrapped it now, I got tired of ASTRA waffling on about some nonsense whenever I tried chatting with a friend.fiksal wrote:ah... have you guys seen or tried this?

Hi folks
I've got a couple of questions if anybody can answer them please.
My usual procedure when I'm interdicted by another pilot (NPC) is to submit to the interdiction, boost away one or two times, turn, target the other ship on my hud, weigh up the other pilots stats/ship and ranking, and then decide whether to engage or not.
Last week though I had a disastrous experience using this method...just as I was turning to target the other ship, within a split second I was obliterated.
I was in my Cobra, so was well able to afford the 200,000cr insurance (My Asp is in a port many many light years away at the moment).
So the probably dumb question is, how do I target the other ship without turning to face them, and target them in the Hud ?
Question two...In open Play, how do you communicate with another player, using the keyboard/joystick/Hud display?
Anyhow, I've been busy 'exploring' lately, the odd interdiction has been fine, I'm reasonably competent enough to tackle any NPC adversaries even up to the high levels of ranking, but I tend to bug out of the scenario if they're in a Python or Drop ship with high ranking.
I had to laugh the other day though...I had a run in with an Asp (NPC) which had an experienced pilot. I managed to destroy his/her ship but suffered extensive damage, and my air was running out (screen had busted).
I managed to jump to a populated sector, and was just going through the docking entrance when the timer ran out!
Have now upgraded air supply to I think 25 minutes duration.

Press G to cycle available targets.Oldman wrote:So the probably dumb question is, how do I target the other ship without turning to face them, and target them in the Hud ?
Press 2 to bring up the coms menu, you can then cycle down using the W & S keys or the hat on your joystick, to select your desired option, use space or fire button. Pressing 2 can also help you identify what players ships are in the area should they be close enough.Oldman wrote:Question two...In open Play, how do you communicate with another player, using the keyboard/joystick/Hud display?

Using the target panel (to the left) under contacts select him.Oldman wrote:..

default is keyboard button '1' or Joystick focus button and hat switch left.
Open the coms pannel
default is keyboard button '2' or Joystick focus button and hat switch up (I think)...
Once coms pannel is open / active hat switch right should open list of contacts click on the contact should give option to close, text or chat.
Hope that's of some help

Well, got my first human combat kill today. Was interdicted by a guy in an Asp. Not a very good Asp as it turned out. Was a lot of fun. Then later I got caught by a guy in a Python.
My shields were down and my thrusters gone in about 10 seconds and the insurance cost me half my weekend profits.
Stopped me feeling cocky.

Hi!
Thanks ATTACK-HAMSTER & Avis
I feel much better now that I can target those ships a bit quicker!
Seems I'm going to have to invest in some chaff too....ruddy Cobra tonight was firing missiles at me like there was no tomorrow...don't they know how much they cost?!
I've got 'point defence' but it was pretty much overwhelmed, I think a couple got through, no real damage but the *%$***$ air supply got damaged again...couldn't believe it!...(I'm seriously starting to think DB looks in on this forum topic
)... the screen was intact (no cracks), but I just got the message that the air supply was compromised...didn't panic this time though as there was a station in the system, good job I'd upgraded it though.
Discovered a 'prison colony' today, most of the npc ships that I come across in the system were high (ish) ranking & pretty much lethal, and that wasn't the Police either
(this is where my air supply got damaged).
Continued the mapping out of the system after repairs, but I wasn't attacked again anyway so *shrugs*.
I'm definitely going to see how this 'stealth/cool running' mode works...so's I can creep up behind these npc b******s and cut off their air supply tubes for a change!
Anyhow, I've been having fun exploring, but I think it's time I did some hard trading next week, and finally get this Asp outta the garage, or trade up to something with a bit more clout. I think it's pretty obvious though that bigger ships come with some real disadvantages, if the game had an offline / multiple save mode then I think a few players would be a lot happier. The game is what it is though...*shrugs*...it certainly lives up to the name 'Dangerous'. You definitely need a good bank account in the black to cover those 'little' 'final expenses'...
I've noticed that 'check points' have started to appear in some of the system objects menu's, with three 'grades' I think, low intensity...high intensity etc. I'll have to look in on the Frontier forums to see what that's all about.

A bit late to the party, but my way of dealing with interdictions is -
1) Evade it.
2) Target the wake they left behind when they dropped out.
3) Circle back and safely drop out at the wake.
4) Ambush the ambusher. (unless they're bigger and more powerful, in which case leg it.)
This way may be slower, but it gives you an advantage since:
1) Your FSD will recharge more quickly in the event you need to run
2) The enemy will initially start out none hostile.
3) Since you've not been forced out you also don't go into combat having already sustained hull damage.
Basically you get the first roll of the dice as it were.

Hi
Did anybody take advantage of the 'Ship Sale' over the weekend in the System LHS 3447?
I trundled the 170 odd light years distance from my 'Home' system, visited the systems stations, but was a few million credits short of what I was hoping to buy.
...
Best deal I think was a Type 7 transporter at about 2-3 million less than the average price in the other systems.
Side note...The Auto Dock when fitted to an Asp is a bit touch and go in my experience. Rough 'landing' sometimes in Orbital Stations, but no damage, strangely enough....very 'hairy' at the small ports at times though. In fact in a few instances it tried to land my Asp sideways down!
Using it with a Cobra though there's no real problems....strange.
I usually 'manually' dock, but the odd times I've used it it's been at mostly Orbital stations for various reasons.
Oh!...while I remember....Is it worth buying the 'Auto maintenance' upgrades?...what does it actually repair?

I'm always slightly 'tentative' when leaving the orbital stations...I was playing a few hours of the game today, and clicked the launch icon to exit the station, only to find the entrance blocked by a npc Lakon 9!Redvers Ganderpoke wrote:I don't know about Docking computer but I plainly need a undocking computer as I managed to upset two stations by mucking up the exit and getting destroyed. Now have 70kcr loans to paid off from 70cr in credit! I did wonder why I was so dispraxic until the migraine started
It was just outside the entrance, but sideways on, and was 'stuck'.
I waited, hovering inside for a few moments, then the station defences opened up and blew it to bits.

It also happened again at the same station about an hour afterwards (another Lakon 9) when I went to exit, but this time the station defences didn't open fire on it.
I managed to squeeze past it, as my 'timer' only had a minute or so to go....*&%$$* heart was in my mouth, but as the timer was getting near to zero I had to go for it!...luckily I didn't get any damage.

Outside the station I turned around to see what would happen next, as it was still stuck there, engines firing and it's nose stuck in the 'gridwork' *shrugs*...anyway...I jumped out of the system a few minutes later so I don't know if it was destroyed or not. I suppose I ought to ticket it, but I'll return to that station next time I play and observe from outside if it's a frequent occurrence maybe, before I do.
Edit...had some 'slight' damage to my Asp today after a scuffle with another ship, (about 30%)....cost me about 50,000cr to repair, time to up my shielding I reckon....or be more careful

There's no difference between solo and multi-player mode as far as the game is concerned--you won't actually *see* any other players when solo, but otherwise you're as online as everyone else. Therefore, you can switch between the two modes at any time you like and you lose nothing by doing so.muppetts wrote:Can I play solo and then take what I have done for multi play?

Thx! Just getting the hang of it and want to avoid pvp at the moment until I sort a more decent ship!
Great start, fly to station to pick up my eagle, ask to dock, sure landing pad 13, go there DO NOT BLOCK PAD DEATH IN 20 SECONDS. EHH?! so I back off, look about, no other pads lit up, try again and again and then the station blows me up...
so not stella start

If you have any trouble initially landing your ship on the pad in an orbital station for whatever reason, my experience is it's best to just turn about and exit quickly (don't cancel docking when you're still in the station btw!
)
When you're outside the station cancel docking, then ask permission to dock again. The disappearing pad box lights & numbers is still a problem in the orbital & some of the smaller ports in my experience. At the moment whenever I've used the docking computer in an orbital station it's not failed to get me down safely, so this might be something to consider as an upgrade.
Okay...it's slow and a bit inaccurate on landing with some ships, but I've experienced no ship damage...'yet'...I don't know if this holds true with the larger ships though.
I switch the use of the docking computer about, especially if I'm starting to feel tired through long gameplay.
I still prefer to manually dock at the smaller ports though, it's quicker and a lot safer I think.

13 is right under the entry slot. Literally the moment you pass through, stop and use the compass on the top left of the scanner to find the pad.muppetts wrote:Thx! Just getting the hang of it and want to avoid pvp at the moment until I sort a more decent ship!

There is a bug getting fixed very soon in 1.1 where the holographic lights for the pad disappear for a moment

Yes PAD 13!!!! That was the one, oh right good to know, will try again, otherwise I have no way to pick up my eagle!
Ahh ok so pads are random, Thx all, landed and got the Eagle so off to kill wanted!
*****************
Is there anyway you can tell from a system map if a station has a Black Market or do you have to land to find out? Had a look but it just shows servics, what is illegal etc?
*********************
OK so I just attained a silly about of pleasure from my 1st credits, 2 blackbox's for 6k and I got a new shiny gimbled laser, cruised about and got even more pleasure from my 1st kill and 2300 bounty, 3 more later and I have another gimbled laser. Now I am off again to a resource station to spend a couple of hours bounty hunting!
***********************************
not being able to pay fines remotely is stupid, I keep getting rammed by police Vipers and then fined for them hitting me! Then they all turn around and the sentence is DEATH! Bit harsh! So I have to shlep all the way back to a station because of the cops, they need to disable ram fines unelss you do it 3 times for something on the same person.
***************************************
Ahh here comes the grind, earned 100k in 1st hour 20k in next 6 and had to pay cops 20k in fines for them hitting me. Wedding barges and lone traders in the very very empty space and no missions on the boards. So have hit a wall, nothing to do but grind out 'unidentified' contacts I presume.
