Im getting the stuck on "moving to position..." as well, Im thinking its the fact that there are no readily collectible bits of asteroid in the sector (Ore Belt) and it doesnt have a MDS (only a pac in its turret). The normal vanilla command works fine.

So can anyone confirm that i would need an MDS to have it actually start collecting?

I'm getting the same problem on some Mistrals that already have MDCs installed. Replacing the pilot with a more experienced one fixes the problem. I don't have any more pilots from my last batch of ships though, so I've got one remaining guy who is still 'Moving to position' no matter how many times I give him a new (inexperienced) pilot or reset his settings.

I still have other ships breaking up the rubble in that sector, so I don't see why this guy can't be picking up some of that stuff to level himself until he's on par with the rest.

Hi,

For those with ships filling up with 'invisible' cargo, I found a solution to getting around it. I'm hoping it won't occur again after installing the new plugin.prospector.main.pck file.

Basically having been stuck with 4 TSs that are reporting full cargo with nothing to show for it in wares, I managed to use Cycrow's Cheat package.

Basically, if you use the 'clone ship' feature, it will clone the ship WITHOUT the mystery wares. ie the cloned ship reports a correct cargo size. However it doesn't clone the pilot, so you need to transfer him. The cloned ship does not belong to you, so you have to 'take ownership'. All these steps are available in the cheat menu.

The complete steps I took were -

1) Cheat Menu - Switch Target Object - Change target to the ship with the erroneous cargo
2) Cheat Menu - Clone Ship
3) Cheat Menu - Switch Target Object - Change target to the new clone ship
4) Cheat Menu - Take ownership
5) Order both ships to the nearest station
6) Select the Prospect Settings, Reassign Prospector option to reassign the prospector to the new ship
7) Order the old ship to undock
8) Cheat Menu - Switch Target Object - Change target to the old ship
9) Cheat Menu - Destroy

* A ship of the transporter class (TL or TS), corvette class (M6), or a heavy fighter (M3) with XL cargo
* Fight Command Software MK1 (Optional: changes behavior when encountering enemies)
* Fight Command Software MK2 (Optional: changes behavior when encountering enemies; in addition to MK1)
* Ore Collector
* Mineral Scanner
* Mobile Drilling System (Optional: Must be installed in a turret)
* Particle Accelerator Cannon (Optional: M3 only, Must be installed in a turret)
* Navigation Command Software MK1
* Special Command Software MK1
* Jumpdrive (Optional: can be used after a special course)
* Transporter Device (Optional: Use if the ship's homebase is a TL/M1)
I am using a Mobile-Mining Base Ship (TL and 60K cargo space) which has all of the above devices and software, but I do not get the Prospector Commands for it. The only command visable is "Start Minerals mining" and it is grayed-out. I get all the Prospector Commands for other ships equally equipped.
I believe that the reason may be that the MMBS has the Ore Collector and Mineral Scanner "Built In" and does not show up in the cargo bay but shows up if you try to exchange freight with another ship etc.
If I try to 'double up' on Ore Collectors and Mineral Scanners for the MMBS, it doesn't let me do it, possibly because it knows it is already installed.
Any solution?. The MMBS is the homebase for my other miners due to its cargo capacity but I don't like to have it just sit there when it should be mining.

@Zymurg, The pilot of a TL has to be at Chief Prospector Rank before he can work a TL. You need to start off with a TS and then transfer the pilot once he has the right rank.

Are these guys unionized or something? Everytime I give them an order the first thing they do is go dock somewhere for awhile before carrying out the order. They taking a undeserved rest break?

Sorry, but I'm afraid I just don't get it.
I have spent the entire afternoon trying to get three miners to mine and not even a pebble.

First, they are fully equipped (TS ships) and I have all the Prospector commands available.
I put them in a sector with lots of asteroids, which I scanned and has lots of minerals (Clarity's End).
Every time I give them the command to "start minerals mining"/"start Prospector" they issue order to dock at the Solar Power Plant, afer which they dock then issue the order to move to position. Thats basically it. I wait a couple hours, (after they have moved to a position) then I re-issue the order and it all starts over again. (back to the solar power plant).
What am I doing wrong? They are fully equipped with all the necessities.
Its been all afternoon and they haven't done a thing.
Their home base (MMBS-TL) is in the same sector.

Also, the settings are set.
Time of duty 5:38
Work Time 0:0
Prefered mineral Silicon (I also tried ore bot there is plenty of both in the sector)
Homebase: MMBS
Destroy Astroids Number 20 / Yield 20 (there are tons of both)

Whats wrong?

if you just started them, they cannot break asteroids yet, do some for them.

Another thing you could try would be start them somewhere there are already broken rocks, like Kingdom End or Ore belt, unless those sectors are hostile to you. also as previously noted breaking an asteroid or two to rubble for them will help get them started.

Thank you for that advice.
I spent all morning blowing up asteroids for my miners.
The TS ship finally started mining, I think, because it has some ore and silicon in cargo. The Caimen Miner, another story.
I spent at least an hour in each ship blowing up asteroids in the turrets.
The Caimen minner still won't mine, but shows zero experience while my TS ship shows almost 1 hr experience, although I did the same thing for both ships.
The Caimen minner will not mine, but goes to an asteroid after first docking at a solar power station (another aggrivation, why do the ships always have to go dock at a station after I issue a command, and why don't they go to the nearest one instead of one all across the sector? Makes no sense.

Mining still leaves a lot to be desired and no doubt is one of the biggest failures in the game. I should have to spend hours in the ship blowing up asteroids anyway. again, makes no sense.

I should add that the Caimen miner pilot has had "8.50" hours "Time of Duty" with "0:00" hours of worktime.
There should be something to avoid that, no matter what the cause.
Where's the message that explains it?

Also, he is getting credit for "Achievements: 36,792 Credits" with 0:00 worktime. Don't try to tell me he ain't unionized!

I have sence found out that the reason the TS ship has got minerals in his cargo is because the command he has been working under (althought I issued "Start Minerals Mining"/start Prospector, is "collect Rocks in Sector" which he stops when he runs out of rocks. All of the asteroids, except the ones I blew up, are still there. These guys haven't blown up a single asteroid.

Two days wasted on getting "miners" to mine.
