Turning everything down to low gave me +.6 of a frame on average...

Not really that surprising I'm afraid given that most parts of your system are hovering around the minimum requirements and your graphics card is actually well below (insufficient memory as well as being too slow).

This resulted in the best FPS on my midend machine, or at least it was a midend machine..

If I remember correctly; X3 Reunion performed better on my machine, and I even used high resolution settings.

X3 TC makes your computer implode.... :D

Yes CBJ, I was in fact aware of this, but thought it'd be interesting to see if I could set my graphics card on fire. Unfortunately, not.

It looks great like this, but there is increased choppiness....
CPU-upgrade is the first step, then I'll consider replacing the GPU...

This thread motivated me to get my vista functional, and I have to say it's come a long way since I got it a year ago.

In game performance seems a lot better than the 10% benchmark improvement. Particularly a drastic improvement in mouse/keyboard input lag, and much better sound quality.

Here are the benches on same settings and same rig xp 32 vs vista 64

To be perfectly honest this is way above my expectations. Looks like I should be able to run it on my system... just. I think the bottleneck is in my cpu. I may try overclocking it, but that just might tear a hole in space/time.
Split now give me death? Nah. Just give me your ship.

Very pleased. Now I'll go back to playing Fallout 3 until 1.3 is released to fix the mission plot bugs.

Edit: Just noticed it says my graphic card has 3Gb of memory! No it doesn't. It's two standard 1Gb GTX280's in SLI.

the extra memory would be system memory allocated by your pc to supplement your graphics cards memory

sndle9 wrote: Edit: Just noticed it says my graphic card has 3Gb of memory! No it doesn't. It's two standard 1Gb GTX280's in SLI.
the extra memory would be system memory allocated by your pc to supplement your graphics cards memory
I did wonder about that, but then the benchmark from stevecs, which is a fairly similar spec system reports...
Graphics Card Info: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 [1024 MB]
So I assumed stevecs has a single card, and my SLI confused the bench program. I think it also shows that the SLI does not make much difference anyway.

Looking through this thread I think it shows that CPU speed is key, then the memory. You just need a good graphic card, not necessarily an extreme one.

stevecs is running XP - it's a Vista thing, I believe.

I see people with slower processors and graphics cards, and they are still chewing out better min fps.

I think I should switch a few things off next time, but very playable all the same. I havent bought the game yet, but I will. As usual it looks beautiful. I see a lot of Fraps videos hitting YouTube soon. ;)

Have fun all,
Brian :)

Started an Excel spread sheet (1st page this thread) at:
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... 31#2620931

Contains all PCMark05 & 3DMark06 values for each entry in this thread (up to page 6 so far).

Would be easier to be able to have people enter their own stuff,
but I haven't got an interactive web site set up.

The largest group with consistent settings is
1280x1024 all seting High,
14 of the 92 so far (+ 13 similar enough).

I wonder if it's worth everyone submitting an entry like that ?

A great work! Some sort of correlation from your chart is really worth reading. To be honest, I was trying to extract the dataset from this thread and generate CSV file with my Awk script, but now I have it with your xls file. Thx :D
