I wonder what this is. Possibly station interior docking is back? Or maybe just for the HQ? Or maybe its a mission thats like the tunnel mission in x3?

Looks like the inside of that sphere model in the Dev Blog. Maybe some kind of Xenon mothership? Who knows.

You know, besides Egosoft.

Metacritic predictions for TC

Post by Demotruk »

This thread is just a little light speculation on how the critics will recieve X3: Terran Conflict. I'm sure most of us here feel that X3 deserved a better reception, or at least would have deserved better had it released with the later patches included(ie. waited for a less buggy release, though I can understand that may be difficult for a small developper, and perhaps they were required to release on time by contract with their publisher).

But since TC is built upon the much improved X3, and has had a lot of time in development, and since the developpers are smart people, I don't think the same problem will arise.

I predict an 80-85 on metacritic, most of the problems that critics had seem to have been addressed, the interface looks much smarter, and the gameplay more accessible, and it has all the strengths of X3. The only reason I'm not predicting higher is because it's essentially an expansion, and thus I don't see it doing anything revolutionary, just evolutionary. Hence some reviewers may feel like they're playing the same game just fixed, or feel that X3 should have been like this in the first place. Even if this isn't a correct position, I expect some to feel this way.

As with X3, the deviation will be very high. There will be some 10/10's and the odd very low score from people who just don't get the game.

I realize it's impossible to accurately predict the critics responses, the game could have some major flaw that I don't know about, but speculation is just a bit of fun, it doesn't need to be taken seriously.

In terms of gameplay, I'm thinking TC will probably be the game that X3 was supposed to be. But I don't like to think of it that way, that sort of gives it a sour feeling of not moving on.

I'm actually really looking forward to the campaign in TC. The polished feel it's showing off already gives me great hope that that side of the game will be better catered for, especially since it's been described as the most immersive in the X game yet.

But there'll always be people like that guy who made the thread expressing his disappointment in what he believed to be a space 'shooter'. So you're right about the diversity of the rating it'll get.

Got a chuckle out of me! But seriously, you've never been to the Saturn sector before? Seems to be a lot of giddiness around in the forums...

Bear in mind that list is for people who haven't played the X series before, and was probably rushed.

If it is easy for people to hop in and just use the mouse to have a good time (leaving the depth for later) I'd expect 9.0-9.5's.

That's for the X curious, not those expecting this iteration of the series or a general space fan. Probably 10 for us, we know how much life will 'vanish'.

All depending on how things are of course.

The Think video looks a hell of a lot better in the HiDef version,
lots of interesting visible content there.

Like the better looking slim new gate, & an M7 ship icon (I think),
& intrigued by the red dots/squares at the top of the screen in the combat scene.

5 simultaneous missions, hmmm, wonder if my multitasking skills are up to this...

Now thats what all games could use more of Gerbils

I think votes should only be given after you've played the game. You simply don't know enough before that to make educated guesses.

Actually, in the case of the X games, I think they shouldn't be considered ready to be played until several months after the official release, as only then they are properly patched and given the shape they oughta have had since the beginning.

It is nigh impossible to prescribe the degree of depth and quality of gameplay of a game like X3 through a simple trailer. Watch all of the videos and read all of the articles you want, but you'll never fully understand the game until you've played it for yourself.

Be patient, guys.

Anyone point me to the hidef Think trailer? Isn't on the ego downloads/X3:TC section. Hidef for Build is, but not think (unless I am going insane...)

That is odd, though: the trailer being available on third party sites but not on Ego's home page. :?:

The only trailer so far that was on Ego's site before anywhere else was the initial teaser. Every other one was found externally first. Though, this one has been up for a while without Ego posting it, so it is slightly unusual.

What is odd about stuff being on other peoples sites before its actually on Egosofts? Thats how it normally goes, in the end someone trawling through random game sites gets the info to the fans that should have been actually posted to the fans in the first place
About the name - i was lost for a name on the forum and looking round, then a Bob Hope film came on, and i thought "that will do nicely"

i was born and raised argumentative i dont mean to offend ...... sorry

My biggest fear is: Having the new mission interface and more missions is acctualy hiding the fact that there is no PLOT, only side little missions. And apart from that, the usual, "new ships new sectors" thing.

But that is just a hunch (dunno if i spelled it right)

Anyways, the PPC is a disapointment. It remained the same (slow speed, crappy looking projectile). Even a Discoverer could beat the PPC bullet in a straight speed race. If they only at least made it faster.......

Another dissapointment: no cockpits, no station interior. Since X2 ive lost the feeling of being INSIDE a ship (doesnt matter if the cockpits are the same for all races but at least they were well made and instantly gave you the feeling that you rly are inside a ship AND in space. Now, its like piloting a ghost, an invisible ship......i cant find the words right now but its down right ugly!! The difference betwen x2 and x3 was simply like this: X2: im in space in a real ship, X3: im in a simulator of a "simulator". Too bad TC is still no cockpits...shame :(. Goes for engine trails as well!

I hope the warptunnel is back and its more uber looking than ever before

First thing I plan to mod, myself!

Well, depending on how it actually works in game. If gameplay has been radically revamped enough, slow PPCs might actually work.

Also, engine trails have been visible in trailers. ;)
