Massively, comprehensively and exhaustively expanded and updated. :D

If anybody has any stories or tales to contribute to an "Other suggested readings" section, then please post a link to the material. Corrections and mining wisdoms are of course welcome too.

dont think this was mentioned under accessories:

A strafe drive extension is really useful in a TL used for mining, especially for manouvering the TL into range of the asteroid, and more importantly getting out of the way of asteroid bits when the asteroid breaks up. Using a combination of a monitor set to left turret, and main view set to external, you can get that large TL positioned, without the horrible "*crunch* best buys locator destroyed".

Another "must have" for mobile mining in a TL is a transporter for remote frieght transfers, and a jumpdrive, for getting to those stations that are low on resources quickly.

Also, does anyone else find a station thats low on silicon (say around 5-10) and wait until it gets to zero? If a station has 3 silicon left, and I know it uses up 5 each cycle (crystal fab), i first check the stations Owned Ships list to see where the transport for silicon is at, and then sell 2 silicon, then wait for it to use up the remaining 5, then sell 208 at maximum price. Then i look for BBs missions for silicon at the station, and if there is one, accept it, then redock at the station, getting even more credits. Just getting the maximum deal out of mining...

I think someone should add a link to this post in the stickied Guide for everything post. If it hasn't been added already.

This is definately the best mining guide I have read. I was thinking about starting mining but never did as I was making so much just moving silicon around.

That and I didn't think the asteroids respawned.

Now I'm gonna invest in a demeter and try mining.

Asteroid
Ore Yield 102

In sector Unknown east of Wastelands...
If you're gonna drill this rock, you'll have to hurry as there's sooo much ore to pick up, and after a while the fragments self destruct. Oh, and watch the squash mines...

Thank you so much for posting this guide. I cannot wait to get my rig up and going.

I just started X2 and have had allot of fun puttering around with trading and pirate popping but mining has my interest peaked.

I'll let you all know how my rock hunts go.

Well.. i mined the whole universe:P ( minus khak, have not figured out if we can get to their space yet) And every roid of 40+ yield for mines later.

At the end i made 79 mill (thats has a few mill from combat im sure).

So every roid minus 70+ ( around 75-80, i think, left for mines if i want), will earn you around 75 mill.

Heh, now to start building i guess:)

usefull for long mining runs.

Nothing to add, Momaw, apart from thanks for the tutorial. It helped me a lot as I've only being playing the game for a week or so.

ps - I found a 62-yield Silicon, but before I could scoop up all the loot I was chased off by the Khaak. When I later returned, it was all gone.

I've noticed that if you totally leave a sector the asteroid bits will disappear. However, I have personally left a sector and let my collector ships pick up the remaining bits without problems.

Not sure if things disappear when leaving sector or because the bit go out of range of my scanners...

There seems to be some kind of memory for cargo and presumably ore/silicon. I left a sector following a fight with some containers floating around and after briefly visiting the next sector I found that they were still floating in space.

In xt as soon as you left the sector they vanished.

Most likely you just stayed OOS long enough for the "cleanup" to happen. Asteroid fragments disappear naturally after about 20 minutes or thereabouts.

The disappear pretty darn quick wherever I am, so I do not dally when it comes to picking them up.

Don't know if this has been added yet, but if the ship your flying has Special Command Software installed, you can command (Shift+C, Special, Collect Wares in sector...) it to collect the wares without bothering to do it manually. You can even SETA.

EDIT: Useful if you only have one ship.

Eliminates a little of the verbose ship computer too.

"CarCargoCargoBayCarCarSiliconCargoBayNowSiliconCargoBay..."

Best to set one or two ships at "collect wares in sectro", while you fly around in a nother ship blasting roids.
