I am not going to comment on X Rebirth, but many of the arguments you have put forward (LAN mode is "easy" to do, you don't have to rewrite the engine to add multi-player, those who want to play single-player have no reason to argue against it, Egosoft just have to "want" to do it) are quite simply incorrect, and the reasons have been explained in great detail in the past. Please go back and read those threads rather than discussing it again endlessly in this one.
We've already had one section of multiplayer / MMO flaming already in this topic. So this should help:
I find it a bit sad people seem to associate Multiplayer with MMO grade multiplayer.
While it would be hard to work around for various things, IF Rebirth scored a Multiplayer option it should only be for up to 8 players MAX (even that's straining the systems with how some people build) for LAN only.

Your Xenon K has Blue Screen of Death'd.
Your #deca CPU ship has 404'd.
Your Xenon P was docking and has stopped responding.
Your #deca.cefa has limited or no network connectivity.
Please read the first thread linked in the list provided by vr01, and once again please stop using this thread to re-hash the old multiplayer argument. I really, really don't want to have to go through a 50-page thread to split it out.

No worries... Probably not worth stickying by itself but would probably help to add it to the guides sticky... (or even "please read this first thread"???)
What i really want changing is capital ships have more turret slot and less guns per turret so you don't get this massive overkill light show shooting down 1 incoming missile with 8 flak cannons(or 12 fusion beam cannon(with CMOD4) on Valhalla which is even more impressive), which is pretty but somewhat a waste of fire power.

they just aren't on these forums so data from polls are pretty much worthless.
And the data from polls aren't worthless, if the people aren't present on these forums to give their thoughts then....
Actually, data from most internet polls (and virtually ALL forum polls) are worthless¹. If you can't get statistical significance figures out of them, they're just a collection of anecdotes. Anecdotes != data.
[Snipped out a bunch of MP crap that should probably go to some other thread.]
¹Technically, there are uses for these types of polls, but they are NOT what you think they are. The problem is that internet polls are NOT a random sample, they're a self-selected sample. There's a HUGE difference between the two. The two only start to become comparable once you hit a majority of potential respondents.
Edit: Took out a bunch of MP stuff.
Edit 2: Added some clarity to footnote.

It has to do w/ the way people read threads and respond to them. People don't respond to a particular THREAD, they respond to a particular POST w/in a thread.
It'll die off eventually. Just imagine you're waiting for your LT to cross 4 sectors.
Actually it has more to do with people not reading and acting upon requests from moderators to stop clogging up our announcement thread with endless re-hashing of old discussions.

A bit passive for my tastes. In this particular case, I prefer the 'moderator bitchslap' method. Thanks though.
I really hope that seta has been done away with (which is doubtful i admit).
I'd love for there to be only a few sectors. Like 10 or 15 maybe, but each sector is HUGE and they all have in sector trade lanes for fast travel. Similar enough to freelancer i guess. I really liked the travel system in that game.
I hope the trade lanes in the trailer arent just a "moving background" as such...
Also, i wish there was a way to speed up time between now and the end of the year.
I'm really exited about this. I've recently gotten back into XCTC, and only have 20k Microchips left to deliver!
I haven't read all 52 pages of this thread, but after hearing references to it being like Freelancer, I sincerely hope that I'll still be able to use my Joystick/Throttle/Pedals setup instead of an exclusive Mouse interface such as the one used by Freelancer.

We seem to be in agreement. You're describing what. I'm describing why.
