Very nice, soon anyone who doesn't have that tick will stand out like a sore thumb

Hey Shadows does the manual recommend you start the game as a particular character?

Hello John,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

We apologize for any confusion - this game is not available for pre-load.

I wish Egosoft would have confirmed pre-load before announcing it to all of us... :(
Well thats just great, I ordered from steam thinking I would get to preload and actually play it on friday but no it seems that we wont even be able to start downloading the files untill friday night / saturday morning if their countdown is correct, with my crud connection I reckon my hard copy will arrive before I finish downloading the game.
Its nice to have wasted $40 due to the web of lies that is also known as the front page of this website

An explanation is definitely in order. Flat out lying to customers on the front page is unacceptable. I love the X series and all but now I feel ripped off, especially with my slow internet connection...

I must admit it does seem a bit odd that Valve would want everyone to start downloading the game all at the same time, I would have thought it would be much less of a strain on their servers to let people download the majority of the programme at their leisure over the week long period before the game is released -clearly Valve have a lot of faith that their servers can take 1000 people all trying to grab 8-9 GB's of info at one time -Just like the White Star shipping line had faith that the Titanic was completely unsinkable or like the British scientists had faith that Beagle II would be able to land safely on Mars or like all the worlds government's who had faith that the banking system wouldn't collapse or............ -you get the point, I'd order a hard copy version :D

I agree, I love the X3 and am really looking forward to playing TC, but this really sours my launch day excitement. I've been thinking I'd get to play as soon as the game unlocked for over a month.

edit: newsletter indicates TC will start pre-loading soon, so yay :D

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!That news items says 10 October as well, and it's not out yet!!!!!!!!!! I must go round the all dev team's home towns and burn down all the pizza shops!

It's an old news item.

I think it's reasonable to assume that when it posted that was the information Ego had, and they don't have any new information to post which is confirmed and for public consumption (bear in mind they're not the publisher).

I guess Ego could have added a new news item saying 'There is no news', but it seems a bit pointless. :p

Actually, I'd imagine that's a fairly low (extra) load for their servers - X isn't exactly mainstream. They do start to groan when something like COD4 is released :).

Although unless they simply decided not to bother, I don't see why they wouldn't offer it on pre-load.

Just speculating, it could be the issue is something to do with problems on other distribution channels, pre-release piracy fears, company politics, or elves. But who knows...
