Sure the X Universe has been a great place, but from all accounts, including their own, it's a completely new engine and completely new game, with only a fleeting reference to the current X Universe that we know. If there's so much changed that we'll not recognise the place, then they should have just gone the whole hog and called it a new game. That would eliminate much of the comparisons and expectations of what's going to carry through.

I think it was a bad idea to relate the game to the X Universe, considering how much has changed and how much they have stressed that it's not the same. It makes me worry why they made that decision at all...
Much like that Abomination SplinterCell Conviction should have been a different IP instead of ruining the series forever.
RIP SplinterCell.

Yeah, I agree with you there. Until we know more of the actual 'nity grity' (detailed content) of the game I also wonder why. Perhaps a bit of nostalgia in relation to the othe previous games maybe?
I personally don't like the name 'X' strangely enough, it's always struck me as impersonal, I mean...there's loads of other names with the words 'X' in their titles eg: XGS, X Box, GX, GTX etc. etc....In fact come to think of it, I'm B"**&y cheesed off with names, with 'X' being a 'corporate' word!

Yes, while there's still time?...can't we have a sort of competiton at what the new game's going to be called?.....NO!?...okay, was just a thought. :D

edit:- Arrrggh!...I've just noticed, my wife has bought me some anti ageing cream, it's called "******FX"....see what I mean!
Strueth!....give us a break!....I partly blame you, Egosoft, for this (the worry wrinkles)

I was wondering whether you can configure the drones you use, or are you always stuck with 1 type of fighter drone? So dog fighting is always between equal drones?

And an other concern is the combination of a 20hour plot and a modular ship: I hope the ship is not fully upgraded once you finished the plot. If the plot gives you free upgrades, advancing your ship too fast, it is making the game too easy. (something like the Terran plot in X:TC, the free Vidar. You get the best M6 in the game for free!).

I hope that the upgrading of your ship is a never ending story, since it is probably a major part in the game, it should not be limited to a 20h time span. You should start out in a broken down 'M6' and after 150-200h you finally reach 'M2'/'M1' status. (Using the 'M' designations by lack of other)

I said it was that ship awhile ago. Doesn't take a genius to work it out. They officially say its a famous ship, and you have seen the ap gunner before so you know its general design and the one on the x rebirth info page shows the ap gunner in all HQ.

The same image as the other poster posted. The corvette looking ship. With the rear side engines which is probably the best indication its the ap gunner.

Well it is a HQ (high quality) version of the ap gunner. What more did you expect?

I THINK it will be this ship, it was in every trailer and presentation until now.

http://www.egosoft.com/games/x_rebirth/ ... en_001.jpg

BTW i don't care if i can only pilot one ship, as long as I'm not stuck in a M3 or smaller. Back in the days of X2 is spent, as soon as i could afford it, the rest of the game in an argon centaur, X3R -> Hyperion and in X3TC a modded Normandy SR2 (M7). There was no reason to change the ship anyway.
Piloting a TS or TM or TP is boring, they are slow and (except the TM) not able to defend themselves. M2 was never really my case and piloting a M1 by hand -> no thanks. If i did, i was sitting in there and commanding my fleet during a battle, and that is all it was good for.

TL -> Someone ever really tried to pilot one of these???

And I actually never found a reason to get into a M8.....

I think you're missing the point of those who don't like this one ship idea. The point is: while many people preferred flying only one ship even in earlier games it was up to them WHICH ONE TO FLY.

I guess Head Quarter. 8)

But, looking to those side pods, it's indeed the AP Gunner...

Dont know if anyone else mentioned this yet (there have been A LOT of replies :) )but has there been any word on the (English) voice acting?

Much as I love the X Series the voice tallent has been consistantly grating and immersion breaking throughout

TL mostly in Reunion since M7s didn't exist back then, it was a good mini capital back then (the Elephant mainly). In TC I used them a bit but not as good as Reunion for fights though if gotten early by capping they can prove very useful as a mobile HQ and for some medium scale ionvasions.

As for the M8, they could have been drone for all I know, while flying an M7M is great fun with stuff going BOOM everywhere, an M8 has low cargo and survivability and is only used at a great distance to make sure they don't blow.
SCUM : They may exceed you in number, but not in value.

I use my TL when building stations. I dock a lot faster then the AI can so I can get a complex up an running pretty fast.

I have a Enhanced Jaguar in the hanger that I use for positioning stations goes like 1200m/s with the turbo boost its crazy!

I agree with StarTroll, if this is the ship and like it says in the intro and all info available "an old batered, proud ship"....what about a front or side view of the ship? They only show the engine part. And that begs the question, from where this ship comes from? Is it from TC or Reunion?

One page back there are pictures by GrahamSimmons comparing the old AP Gunner and the picture of the X:Rebirth site. They look alike, and it's not a big stretch to imagine that the screenshot you're talking about is the back of the new AP Gunner...

I also suspect that the ship in question is the AP Gunner; however, I don't think the engine pods necessarily tell us anything. Just about every ship in X2 had engines like that; so just going by that picture, it could just as easily be some old Centaur that Julian flew during the Khaak war for all we know (doubt that it is; just thought someone ought to say it  ).

Aside from Argon One, the x-shuttle and the Gunner, what other ships in the X-verse are old, battered, and legendary?
