Man, I've searched and searched but nothing. I've noticed my MK3 Universal Traders keep having their ranks reset, and I think my CAG ships do, too. I have a number and they all used to be working for my solar power array, but I moved some on to sector trade duties in order to make the most of the MK3 software, I'd played for hours letting them get to a high rank, but having saved and loaded a few times, I went to check out their ranks to see how they were doing, but different pilots had been assigned to some. I assumed I'd inadvertently executed some power plant software command that messed with the ex-CAG ships, so I let them build up a rank for an hour or so, but then I checked and they've been assigned new pilots AGAIN. Pretty annoying.
It's hard to keep track of all of my MK2 CAG ships, as I don't check their ranks often, but I'm fairly certain their ranks keep moving around as well, as some times I'll check and some will seem lower than their ship age would suggest.

I have had no luck getting CAG's to work. I have made 4 or 5 of them, bought all the equipment needed, but they do nothing, just sit on standby forever.
I built a self sustaining light weapon complex to sell lasers, and I realized my CAGs wont sell anything because they are only apprentices and thats why they sit on standby.
So i bought a shield factory in argon prime, without a complex, because I wanted my cags to buy the resources needed to level up.
So I leave basically all the trade values at default, since I have no resources for the factory yet, I expect them to go out, buy meatsteak cahoonas, ore, and energy sells. I told them to go in a 5 sector radias. I expected them to rush out and start buy resources. So what happens? Nada, zilch they sit there on standby. I have them set with no items blacklisted, I set the tradelist to steaks, ore, energy and the 1mj shields that i produce.
What am I doing wrong?!!!! this is driving me nuts, why wont they do anything?
Edit: Nevermind I think I figured out the problem, he doesnt have MK1 trade software, I hope thats the problem -----------crosses fingers------.
OK thats not it!!!
I go to trade and it says its installed, but when I click ship info it doesnt show up. (MK1 trade). I think the ship is just ******, because I bought another ship and its working fine.
OHh well I will send them to that certain rock collecting center in the northwest as punishment for wasting my time.

Stupid question, but you have transferred some money to the factory for them to use?Cascinova wrote:So i bought a shield factory in argon prime, without a complex, because I wanted my cags to buy the resources needed to level up.

It's strange, I've just noticed I'm having the same problem he is. They were fine the other day, but now a couple are just sitting there CAG on standby while others come and go, but their settings are identical to that of the ones that are working.
Also I really wish you could set a priority to sell, without setting them exclusively to sell. My solar power plant XL is constantly at max capacity stock, but the workers constantly go out to buy more crystals, even if they are the correct rank.
I don't really understand the logic behind disallowing pilots to sell below a certain age/rank. If anything, buying resources would be the thing I'd want my pro pilots to do. Anyone can sell energy cells.
I will check out this analysis to log thing tomorrow.
Edit: would it be possible to assign rank restrictions to either individual wares, or waretypes? That way, you could have noob pilots sell energy cells and wheat etc, while only advanced pilots can handle the trade of capital ship weaponry and missiles (etc).

Yet another wont undock
I read most of the topic and tried the various solutions to get my trader to undock and do anything but I've had no luck.
Here's the output of the log yell if I'm doing something wrong.

CAG apprentices can only BUY wares, meaning you need to train him by having him buy wares for your stations, putting him in a complex means he can't get any initial training done by buying wares, I assume you wanted him to sell the wares your complex is producing? Once he reaches the next rank he'll be able to sell wares.
also... you have to take into account that if you set the jump drive for him and his energy cell limit,
Jump Drive energy: 50 energy cells
Jump Drive minimum jumps: 3 jumps
I'd set the minimum jump to 1 and the energy cells... well you need to add another 0 on for that... but you'll run into a snag, 500 energy cells is enough for 50 jumps, you better double that amount make it 1000 energy cells. 1000 means you got a round trip there, 500 to jump 50 sectors away and 500 to jump back 50 sectors
A TS class vessel uses 10 energy cells per jump

I have some questions for the CAG:
1. Under Trade Duty you can choose between Trader, Salesman and Shopper. What are the difference between those 3?
2. Just for clarification cause English is not my natural language.
Sell products are the products the complex is producing eg. Ore at a Ore Mine and Intermediate products are the products the complex uses to make the Ore eg. Energy Cells.
Is that understood correctly?
3. What does Agreement with colleagues means?
Apologies if the questions have been asked before, but its a long thread now

Shopper = buy onlyOmumou wrote:I have some questions for the CAG:

Salesman = sell only
Trader = both (default)
Every complex has zero or more of:2. Just for clarification cause English is not my natural language.

Is that understood correctly?
- resources: wares that are consumed (you have to buy these)
- products: wares that are produced (you want to sell these)
- intermediate products: wares that are both produced and consumed.
A single station has only resources and products.
A complex can have various combinations: usually you have intermediate products, like when you connect a food-producing station with a tech-producing one (the food would be the intermediate product).
But if you connect a 1MJ shield factory with a 5MJ shield factory, you just have food, ore, EC as resources and 1MJ and 5MJ shields as products, no intermediates.
In a Boron SPP loop, OTOH, there are no resources and no products: everying is produced and consumed in the complex. Everything is listed as intermediate product: BoGas, BoFu, Silicon Wafers, Crystals, EC. It works because of the surplus of EC (if the size and the number of the factories are computed correctly, you can have 0 net production of BoGas, BoFu, Silicon, and almost 0 for Crystals).
No two traders fly to the same station to buy/sell the same product (so that one will succeed and the other will come back empty-handed). It's like if they coordinated via radio.3. What does Agreement with colleagues means?
Apologies if the questions have been asked before, but its a long thread now
Usually, it's best leave a complex to the care of its CAGs only, that is, rule everything else out: no NPC, no UT/ST, no EST, no CAGs from other stations, no other traders should dock there. This makes things simple and manageable, and the CAGs will do the job efficently.
Of course, simple means also boring. Many "interesting" things can be done when you play with apparently strange CAGs settings and/or make them interact with CLS2 traders.

Well I found one stranded once, with not enough energy to jump back, looking for a SPP.Requiemfang wrote:I'd set the minimum jump to 1 and the energy cells... well you need to add another 0 on for that... but you'll run into a snag, 500 energy cells is enough for 50 jumps, you better double that amount make it 1000 energy cells. 1000 means you got a round trip there, 500 to jump 50 sectors away and 500 to jump back 50 sectors![]()

I think - not really sure - that there's a 10 EC consumpion to initiate the jump. So 1 sector is 20 ECs, two 30 ECs, and so on. So for 50 sectors and back I'd put 1020 EC, not just 1000. Of course, until it jumps exactly 50 sectors, you'll never get to see the problem. And even if it does, it may get to a SPP to refuel, no real harm done. It's only when closest SPP is in a dangerous place that it can get actually in troubles.

A minor quibble, it took me far too long to wonder why my freshly made CAGs were just sitting in Standby in my self-sustaining complexes... yes I know it'd because I didn't RTFM properly... but a message saying "I'm only an Apprentice and there's no Resources for me to buy and I'm not qualified to trade Intermediates or Products yet" would have helped me and I'm sure a few others not lose hair and get grumpy over this!
Scripts like this make X games much less hassle, why they aren't included by default is beyond my comprehension. The old days of X2 when you had one TS doing Best Buy/Best Sell for each product and resource at each factory seem so far away, even though it was quite an achievement to simcity a whole sector and then sit back and admire your handiwork, watching all your hundreds of busy little transports doing their thing.

I'm having a weird issue with CAG. I have a complex set up with a cattle ranch L, a meatsteak cahoona factory L and a chip plant. It's supplying the complex with e-cells and silicon wafers just fine and selling the microchips like it should. The problem is the intermediaries. I'm generating too much argnu beef and too many cahoonas so I want to sell off the extras.
I think I have it set up right but if it doesn't need to buy resources or sell products it sits there as "CAG on standby..." and if I look into the cargohold it's moving meatsteak cahoonas into and out of its cargohold in weird amounts. Like it'll move 3300 in, move a couple thousand of them out to leave 1200, move some back in to make 3300 again, move some out to make it 1260 and it'll do that over and over until it needs to sell a product or buy resources, at which time it'll go on its merry way with some meatsteak cahoonas in its cargo but never selling them. Here's the log:

I sorta had a similar problem. From what you posted its alot of data to look through. Anyway, I think the CAG is getting confused with its checks. Did you set trader duties to "salesman" coz at trader it involves him looking after all wares and their inventories. as a salesman he'll only think about selling. but be careful, he might sell everything and your complex won't produce anymore. a Major Dealer is king at what he does.
