@lorddrow: i'll be happy about any comments :D

@sunfire:
- press enter to apply the changed settings (just like in the options dialog).. that way you'll get 300 sectors, too :)
- actually the races are spawned randomly.. so there should be about the same amount of sectors owned by each race.
it's just that the red of xenon and khaak sectors are too.. red ;) looks like there's more of 'em
- deadly pirates: m1 to m6 (+tl) ships in pirate sectors, and make all stations in pirate sectors pirate-owned
gives some extra thrill :P

Cool i got 300 sectors working...i just noticed theres no unknown sectors though.

well.. it's pretty hard to create hidden gates ;)
and if the gates are not hidden, there's no real need for unknown sectors either.. :] who wants empty sectors anyway?

Ok I abolutely love this little baby. Its great. I thrills me just looking at the wonderfull map I created. BUT! I have samed my map in the X2 map folder, as test1.xml . I have version 1.3 english, and I cannot find any way to select the map I want to use! Is it custom mod package button? If so it doesn't let me click it, its all greyed out. PLEASE HELP! I SOOOO WANT TO PLAY MY MAP!

-start x2
-in the mainmenu (the one with start and load...): type "Thereshallbewings"
-start new game
-custom map
-test1

should work :P

Me, I want empty sectors and lots of them - I'd like to see galaxies many times larger than the current X2 one

Thanks for making it clear, there's nothing quite like having someone do your reading for you :)

As for the 300 sector limit, I don;t suppose anyone has figured out where this is set have they?

this is either hardcoded or well hidden o.O sorry, the editor cant do this, yet
As for the 300 sector limit, I don;t suppose anyone has figured out where this is set have they?
hardcoded i could bet
you'd need quite a fast pc to run such an enourmous universe smoothly anyway :P

update 22.5.2004
  • -min&max values in the Randomizer's settings dialog
    -single sectors are now randomizable
    -random (and pretty strange) names for randomly created sectors
    -sectors can now be named
    -fixed: error when loading a map with special characters in it's path

Very nice work thus far. :)



I however can't seem to get the naming systems part of the latest galaxy editor to work, I rename a system, save my galaxy, but when I load up X2 the system will retain its original name.

When I save my galaxy, three files are now created.

One with the name of my galaxy, say Galaxy.xml

The next two files are named Galaxy44.xml and Galaxy49.xml, very small in size in comparison. Not sure if that's needed but this is something new.


Not sure if I missed something.



Anyways, keep up the good work, your galaxy editor is great :)

i never said they'd go directly into the game ^^
rename the files to some 44????.xml name and load 'em using a script
there's currently no other way to do that =)

another pre-release [has been released]
comes with a handy export function (to get your language files packed together with your map.. makes it easy to load it into the game)

update:
- added a 3D view <-- everyone thank vlad for that
(it's still in an early state, but functional)
- added export function
(creates a mod with all necessary files: map itself, script to load names, language files with names)

<edit> argh, cant get any versions working now.
:idea: HINT: Custom scripts!!!

this problem may be caused by custom scripts.. if they are lookign for a sector that doesn't exist... it may freeze the game once started.

Another problem when starting the galaxy editor are scripts that spawn ships and/or give them commands.. if such a init.xxxx script exists, it will freeze the galaxy editor

I get a "Cannot Find Server" error while trying to DL... am I doing anything wrong? I just hit the link.
