Re: Dat Framerate
I updated my NV Drivers today, from the prior release "417.22-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql" to today's release "417.35-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql" and things seem much smoother vs. when I saved last night. I've not changed sector or any settings.
I've been fighting a Kha'ak and Xenon incursion in Ianamus Zura IV using all my ships split into several small wings. They utterly suck at combat, but then so do their opponents so it's quite a good match.
Two things strike me as a little odd after updating: My fps is consistently better than it was, and my GPU load isn't sky-high like it was on the prior drivers - but only AFTER the 1.32 update, it was fine under 1.31 with the 417.2 drivers. Additionally, my CPU load seems a little more even over all eight threads, not massively so, but noticeable. Unexpected!
Thought: while other games ran fine under the prior 417.22 drivers, I wonder if, after the 1.32 update, X4 had a problem with them for some reason? Can't explain it, just reporting what I see, in-game right now.
Edit: I'm even getting decent FPS on the map screen, what's going on?? Confused!

Afaik gsync only really works with vsync off. I've cut frames in half in games by having vsync on with gsync and that's no good when you run 144hz (and can get 144fps).

No idea, the release notes say nothing about X4. Maybe something they did for another game is helping. It'd be great if they did something specifically for X4 though, I swear they did one for X:R...Scoob wrote: ↑Wed, 12. says gsync should be used with vsync turned off, as they "compete" with each other.
When I turn vsync off in this game I get tearing, even though I'm getting well below 144fps, so I am not sure what hertz settings in this game are!
I think you have to play this game in window-borderless and configure gsync for windows as well, then turn off vsync in the game, to get 144fps.

Yeah, no mention of X4, that's part of the reason I was baffled by this sudden improvement. Whatever the reason, I'll take it!

Holy macaroni Batman, really? Sold, I'm updating the drivers right now. Good lord, I hope it really gets better, now that I have mapped the whole galaxy and have satellites all over, zooming out the map brings me down to 18 fps, it's painful

Re: Dat Framerate
I just did a test giving ALL my ships orders at the same time. Sure, the FPS in the map screen dropped, but "only" to 30fps, which is fine in this view. Without orders issued, I had 60fps. Shocked.Kadatherion wrote: ↑Wed, 12. Dec 18, 21:04

Hope it helps for you too, sorry to get your hopes up if it doesn't.
Running a GTX 1070 @ 2ghz btw, resolution 1920x1200. I even managed to pop SSAAx2 back on, which had been KILLING my GPU after 1.32 landed.

Re: Dat Framerate
It didn't

Still goes lower than 20 when fully zoomed out for me. I'm also noticing, now that I looked, that when you open the map the gpu load doesn't get noticeably higher, it actually can get even lower, so much that after a while my gpu (if I'm also in empty space in the meanwhile, where otherwise outside of the map I'd go to 120+ fps if I wasn't syncing to 60) downthrottles even though it's overclocked and put to be at 100% efficiency always, no optimal power saving mode whatsoever. From 2088 to 1531, not at rest, but almost. So, I guess the issue on the map is CPU bound rather than GPU. Maybe the new drivers can help more those who have more beefy cpus better feed data to the gpu, but less so to those who have weaker cpus like me (I54460, 3,2ghz)?

When I enter the Map screen, I see a light peak in CPU activity but GPU does indeed drop. I suspect I'm hitting a slight CPU bottleneck. My 2600k is at 4.6ghz, so I expect I have a little more headroom than you, even though your CPU is newer. Can you OC that CPU at all? I know it's technically locked, but the machine I'm typing this on has an i5 3470 (no k) which is 3.2ghz but I oc'd it to 4ghz all cores. That'd be a 20% boost if yours supports it.

Re: Dat Framerate
I don't think my motherboard would let me, and to be honest my whole case isn't that well ventilated and most things run a little hotter than they should, so I'd not feel very comfortable doing that anyway without first doing quite some more work on it. As it's anyway clearly an optimization issue with the map system developed by Egosoft, I hope they'll be able to optimize it in time, because it's affecting, to some degree, everyone. If it's like this now, think what will happen when the borons, split and terrans will be back with the expansions, all with their 5-6 new sectors and hundreds of ships each!Scoob wrote: ↑Wed, 12. A couple days ago, I was getting 30FPS in stations. After 1.32, the framerate started chugging down again.

Yeah, 1.32 was weird. I saw a MASSIVE increase in GPU load, so it became the bottleneck on my system. However, updating my NV drivers seems to have gotten me back to 1.31 performance levels. The weird thing is, the prior drivers worked perfectly in 1.31.ZombiePotatoSalad wrote: ↑Wed, 12. Dec 18, 22:10 A couple days ago, I was getting 30FPS in stations. Re: Dat Framerate
Well, that's freaky. I saved, then loaded my save a short while later and now my FPS utterly sucks. 20fps where I was getting a solid 60 in the same scene. GPU load has shot up to 99% again, where it was waaay below that just moments ago. This is certainly some sort of bug. No legitimate way I'd be getting an easy 60fps, save, reload and be getting 20. What's going on? I was convinced the driver update had helped things as it's the ONLY thing I've done on this PC since yesterday's play session. Let's see if my FPS recovers...

You're supposed to force vsync from nvidia and turn it off in game.SpaceCadet11864 wrote: ↑Wed, 12. Dec 18, 21:00This site here: https://www.blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync ... ttings/14/

But if i do that i still cannot select vsync off and triplebuffer also caps at 60.
It might be related to AA somehow, because if i change any AA settings framerate goes back to the 60 cap and wont go above no matter what i select. Probably that caused my issue, i was also playing around with AA settings.
Seems like a bug.

I can get past 60fps with triple buffer vsync but only in windowed mode.

Dunno about this new specific problem of yours, but I investigated the map issue more. These are my results: viewtopic.php?f=180&t=407798. Long story short: the objects tab is bugged/incredibily badly optimized and it alone is responsible for 80% of the issue, and we should be very, very conservative with how many satellites we place around. Also, unfortunately, we'll have to stay away from increased ship/satellite radar ranges mods; turns out there was a reason why in X4 radar ranges are so smaller than in previous games.

Didn't they say something about a sound driver causing issues? How would I fix that?

It's nvidia sound driver so you'd go into your sound settings and disable that device.ZombiePotatoSalad wrote: ↑Thu, 13. Dec 18, 00:51 Didn't they say something about a sound driver causing issues? How would I fix that?
