I was off this week to work on my Enzy-Mod (working with 3.0 and DLC) and my Cronicles (built a city like one of the Alexpreuss artworks, the green one)
So, sorry for the late answer. Of course, would be a honor! How do I do that?

And btw, how can I overwrite DLC files with my mod (both are used as extensions- so how can I overwrite the file of another extension?)

About the Downloading trap- be up-to-date everytime with your favourite game- this is the lesson STEAM tells you with that. Bad guys...
The funny thing is, I added the DLC to my Database, and when it was out, I never saw something like a downloading and installing- It was simply installed, I started the game and it was there. Magic... :o

Re: $10 for the free DLC?

I just went to install it and suddenly found it wasn't in my library anymore and now they want $9.99 for it.
What happened?
edit:
Their support just emailed me and replied that it needed to be 'downloaded' and 'installed' prior to the 15th of December for it to have been free to my account... What the heck? Simply having 'purchased' and 'added' to the account wasn't enough for them?
WHAAAT :? ^ If true, this is atrocious. I had it in my library list too, as my downloaded and available DLC, but have not accessed my gaming PC for over a month due to work commitments and locality. So I can't comment on my own status of this until I get back.

I have naturally assumed all this time that the Teladi Outpost will be there for me the next time I logged onto Steam to update and play X Rebirth, because I had already 'claimed' it.

Is this being followed up by Egosoft? Free DLC, last I saw it was registered in my XRebith DLC library list as available. I could not install it prior to v3.0 release, and no installation time-out mentioned anywhere! wtf?

Please advise/sort this out Egosoft.

@ ThommoHawk: Please confirm that you have this issue with installing the DLC and we will take up the case with the devs if that turns out to be the general case. It seems a bit premature to shout too loudly before even checking if the allegation is universally true.

^ I will indeed update here as soon as I can get back to my PC, and get online to patch from my version 2.5.1 to version 3.0 > 3.1 and (HOPEFULLY) the Teladi Outpost DLC.

btw I did not realise I was shouting, sorry, I mean if I was to really shout loudly I'd hand out earplugs first, anyway, cause I must adhere to safe work practices and all that stuff. Wouldn't want to cause ear damage or anything... but I agree it may have been a bit loud in retrospect ... Fear. Yes, I blame it on the sheer terror of the possibility of missing out on something GREAT, with XMAS nearly here and all that ...(getting hat, walking quickly out the door, trying not to trip over on the cat.)

I was waiting for this patch to play the game but because I still haven't finished other games I'll leave it for few months ahead.

Still, I wanted to thank Ego for the new patch, I tried for some hours and I liked it.

Thanks and keep it up guys.

Ughhh huge disappointment.
I had assumed this whole time that it would auto update, reading free update, etc. and was not around for a whole month for the holidays.
Get back only to find you have to manually download the DLC for it to be free...now its asking me for 10 bucks.
Already paid 50 to preorder the game initially and regretted it, do not feel like paying another 10 for them to fix it.
Their initial idea was to replay the people who preordered the game by giving it free, shouldn't they have at least done that and THEN offered it free to anyone who downloaded before Dec 15? I like that you are trying to fix it, but for those of us who were not around for that week to download it and preordered, there should be something.

In a way it was my own fault but I got disinterested in the game after its release, thought maybe the DLC would fix and thought I got it free....guess thats what I get for not actively researching how they might fix X rebirth and just hoping they might fix it later down the road. Egosoft, would love some opinion on the parity here.

@Gilgamec

Couple of things, I think that the DLC should have been available from the Egosoft site first, and then moved to Steam, as lots of people will miss on it otherwise, then you just needed to "claim" the DLC, I got autoupdates, and Steam did installed it with no problems, never had to manually install the DLC.
The fixes are the patches that everybody gets, the DLC does not fix anything, it is just two more sectors to explore and some new missions. So you get the full benefit of the fixes without the need of the DLC. And the announcement was 3 months ago.

Yea I just searched my e-mail and found the announcement was made in Nov. It said early Dec but didnt give a date. I saw it as a free download but saw that my steam had it in my update que, assuming that the DLC was downloading I thought nothing of it and thought *meh if it doesn't download it I can get it tomorrow* not realizing there was a time limit. I dunno I think the whole time limit was a dumb idea, on steam it was there for a whole 5 days before they took it down. Those five days happen to be the busiest part of my year with finals, etc. For me at least, I acknowledge maybe I could have invested more time researching about the game but...comeon if this is an attempt to reward people who bought the game early or stuck with it, it is a weak one because I am turned off atm, I was gonna open the game back and play to get in to it but just have no drive now because I feel rubbed the wrong way. Publishing a crap game then trying to milk money through a DLC within a year, token offering of free for a year. Sorry but the people who preordered this game deserve something for squandering 50 bucks.

I got the update and Teladi DLC ok, but I did go to the steam page in November and "claim" it. Then it was in the list of DLC for the game.

When it was released, the next time i started Steam it downloaded, free.

Steam did require we go to the page and click the "button" early, but there were multiple emails warning us ahead of time. 8-)

By the way, if the Devries sectors are attacked a lot it might be your fault, sort of. You are supposed to help build up the economy and defensive forces there. Not by building ships, but by building factory stations and trading with capital ships. They tell you that in the plot action, but it is a bit of a side issue.

I have two factory stations in Devrise, the plot station for refined metal and interceptor drones, and a second station for reinforced panels and chemical products. I also buy and sell to the local Shipyard, when it is a good deal.

In the process of building my stations, I brought in a lot of goods from outside of the Devries system. It seemed to help a lot, they built a lot of defense ships and Devries is safer now.

I don't think the NPC station ships can go out of the system. My stations can only be set out to Devrise, not other systems. So, the economy needs you to run trade ships between systems, particularly Devries to Omicron Lyrae. Otherwise it takes much longer, for the NPC trade ships to find it.

After a few patches there are system traders from other systems- so they did get help from other systems. And even without the player, DeVries needs still some sort of functional economy- and to be honest, It's ok, when the player can play a important role in rebuilding DeVries or in the economy in other systems- but It shouldn't work only with him as the central part. More intelligent- and realistic would be, that you can do this by your own- but when you don't, someone other (a faction like heart of Albion) takes the chance and takes over. The player can be one of the strongest forces in this Universe- but don't make it neccesary to do this. And For now, I play the free gamestart (after playing the plot) and there is no information or warning, that DeVries can survive only when YOU take over. It also must work without the player.
By the way- the stations in the plot (the PMC defence station and the HofA station and the ships belonging to them) are some sort of stabilizing factors -destroying Reivers, making it safer in DeVries- but they're missing in other gamestarts- why? I think, they are important for stabilizing the economy...
But what do I want? I think of the few Canteran stations outside Glaring Truth as some sort of safehouses- where you can go when you need a place you can rest, when you can't stand any longer against the Reivers.

Happy they gave out the update for free but I didn't get the DLC because didn't realize I needed to click something per the instructions in the email in Nov which was like "free for all owners of X Rebirth who pre-order before the deadline". I read that in my mind as if you have X Rebirth before the date you get it otherwise nope. Ohh well I'll just not have that DLC. Kinda sad because interested in seeing what it has but I'll pass on spending more money.

Suffered? I thought we're through with this endless discussion. Some people always have to break
the unsteady peace, I guess.

Anyway, the DLC was announced several months before its release along with the end date of the free
download. Can't be helped if you were on a work trip, I absolutely understand that. But the free
download offer was announced in September and a little click in the Steam Shop wouldn't have been a
very time-consuming activity.

Those who missed the offer can buy the DLC - or not. Maybe there will be similar offers in the
future, I don't know. But there's no reason to complain about it. They've got to make money from
their work just like we do, I think you understand that.

... snipped ...
^Re UPDATING here as promised: happy to confirm I do NOT have this issue, (as others reported of free Teladi Outpost DLC which was no longer available to them when updating had been postponed to after the the freebie cut-off date - even if the DLC been claimed at earlier time).

Back home now, so fired up my gaming PC and when I connected to Steam it immediately (after steam client update) updated my version of X Rebirth 2.5 to the latest 3.1 patch, and then I checked the DLC status, the Teladi Outpost was STILL THERE, and status showed it had been INSTALLED. :)
Launched the game and can confirm It is listed there in my extensions too.

summary; I claimed my free DLC well before the cut off date. I have only just updated from 2.5, and the DLC was still there, and now is installed with no drama at all.

So all good, all good. :)

I start work again in a few days, so the trick is now to find the time to start a fresh game, may have to wait a while :(

Not time consuming, but it would definitely have felt masochistic to click steam shop after the painful couple of hours I've spent at release.

Anyway your obvious statement about the need to get paid for their work doesn't explain why it was free at some point. If anything, it should be free for everyone who bought the game before it's in a decent state.

So Hello all. Long time X fan since X2, first time poster. I have been watching the updates periodically for rebirth eagerly waiting for this game to reach a solid state of finality, or at least resolve a sum of the issues. So today I reinstalled it knowing patch 3.0 came out a little ago. To my dismay I don't recall reading on steam, or at least understanding the patch and DLC for 3.0 had a timeline to claiming it. If anything I may have read it that people who purchased rebirth before DEC 15th would get it. I found out today this was not the case.

My issue is who do I have to ask to get my copy of this DLC? I was one of the first to preorder Rebirth on steam and I would like to believe that I was one of the persons the Devs hoped would claim the DLC sooner. Right now I feel a little betrayed simply for not sticking around for more then 6 months perusing the forums regularly. Honestly I just got tired of window shopping and being overly eager for new patch releases.

I totally get the devs need to make money for working on something and I am all for that. Once this game is kink free any dlc that comes out after I will gladly pay full price for :) :D.

Oh I'd like to add why I was confused. The News reel on steam states the teladi DLC is free to everyone.

"The DLC was initially going to be free for anyone who owned or purchased X Rebirth by November 1, but Egosoft has decided to make it free for everyone as "a thank-you gift for all X Rebirth owners." It does, however, require the 64-bit version of the game; Egosoft said in the patch notes that there will not be a 32-bit version of the 3.0 update, and that the Teladi Outpost DLC is not compatible with prior 32-bit releases."

This was posted December 12th.
