One, that is not true. Trading is almost instantaneous once your trade ship found it's way to finally dock. The problem is my tradeship goes nowhere near the station I'm trying to trade with, but jumps into empty space between sectors and just sits there doing nothing, or keeps following me with a full trade queue. READ before you post!
This is indeed not a simular game to the previews ones.
That's friggin true! And no, the graphics are actually really bad, the texture quality is horrible, and have you seen the geriatrics in space? I mean, come on, you can't be serious. The graphics only made look somewhat better by piling on tons of shaders and post-processing, the underlying graphics wouldn't even pass in 2005. Also, the AI is not better, it's actually worse, they just hid that fact well. First of all, they removed the autopilot altogether, and the AI doesn't crash ships into stations anymore, because they turned off collisions! Ships just gently slide right though everything, even each other. That's not an improvement, that's smoke and mirrors.

And FYI, I did not fly the Hyperion Vanguard even once in my 1000+ hours of gametime in TC and AP. You know what I flew most? My Tokyo. That's right, a huge friggin carrier. I also wrote a mod, that allowed me to trade with station via Freight Drones, so I don't have to change ships, ever. Before I got that, I mostly flew either my Magnetar (TM) or my Nova Vanguard (M3). I had a Vidar, a Katana and 3 Springblossoms, but I only used those in the Final Fury missions, then they were relegated to sector defense duty. And that was just my last playthrough. See, everyone has their own style of play. Not everyone is flying around in overpowered M7s.

Despite the obvious limitations of the engine, you know what X3 had that Rebirth doesn't? Freedom of choice! You could fly whatever ship you wanted, whenever you wanted. You didn't need a massively overpowered Skank, that can kill giant cap ships alone and take on the universe without taking a single hit. You know what that is? Boring. What exactly can you do in Rebirth aside from fly around and maybe shoot at stuff? That's right, NOTHING. Everything else is helplessly broken. So if you ask me, I'm going back to TC and continue building my chip complex for the HUB mission, while sitting in my Tokyo and watching my MMBS and it's fleet of Falcon Haulers mobile mine silicone on the sector map while my M6-s zoom around protecting the sector...

You can also include the quote why things were removed because they are boring...

You know what else previous x games have, which XR don't? You could actually tell your owned ships what to do. In XR you can't even tell your destroyer to attack anything... Now how cool is that?

You can also count the fake traffic in the highways and at the stations, it's completely pointless and just for show. Seriously, why say that EVERYTHING in the game will actually contribute to the economy then make most of the population fake and pointless?

I think exactly the same as you on this matter! Ironically, my favorite ship to fly around in is the dolphin :P . Seriously, trading in X3TC is incredibly fun, jogging around from station to station using JD, while managing my empire in the background and other traders, it's just extraordinarily relaxing for me. When I get bored of that I go for a capital (usually a carrier, because really, who doesn't like a selection of specialized ships in the hangar at all times? :P ) and look for interesting missions and stuff to do. Indeed, freedom of choice, games nowadays seem to completely cut that out of the equation, don't they? In favor of more "fun of the moment" factor and fast cash.

That was the best review I have ever read.

To quote Yatzee on THE BUREAU XCOM DECLASSIFIED:

'Would you be playing it if it wasn't your job? Fck no, I'd be playing the other XCOM.'
Replace XCOM for another X

Remove from...

Post by Nhatorama »

After reading forum posts here and on Steam I decided to remove X:R from my Steam wishlist.

Would I be surprised if I found X:R discounted down to $5 during the upcoming holiday Steam sales?
No, because it belongs in the $5 bin.

I once read a new player of the Arma series ask: Will Arma 3 be ported for consoles?
Every single response was a flat out no expressed in a variety of ways, which ranged from polite no's to condemning.

What would be my reaction if X:R was ported to consoles (XBOX One?)?
 You can have it.

P.s.: I still wouldn't buy X:R for $5, unless of course a miracle happens, X:R receives emergency surgery, and it becomes worth playing.
Meanwhile I'll get my fix with Space Rangers HD: A War Apart or X3:AP.

I think I know what you mean Plabahnosh.

Also I am genuinly confused as to why they did, what they did.

Personally I think they wanted to make good game, but sadly failed. I think they got lost on trying to implement all those features, yet failed to ever take a step back and look at it from a different perspective.

But why, I don't understand. The concerns were there all along. The resources are available as well. There are so many people that wanted this game to be good, as the sale success clearly shows. They could have used the steam early access function, I don't want to say it has to be steam early access, just to point out another possibility. People would have gladly tested every minuity of the game and pointed out solutions.
It is all there, yet did not come together.

So they knew full well what they did, or did they. As I stated. I am confused.

The same story is happening to the Totalwar franchise. If you try to appeal to all, you end up appealing to none.

The harder core space sim fans are what put the Xgames in this place in the beginning, By seeing the $ sign and wanting to appeal to the quick-fire shoot-um-up crowd, you lose your core fanbase and attract only a few potentials doing so.

Those said new recruits most probably find it slower paced than they thought and also knock it on the head...the result....zero fanbase.
