I agree, I don't think most X players are going to be interested in this. But I think Elite will probably be a challenger. I just hope Ego pull something special out the bag with X:R.wolfpackmars2 wrote:I didn't see where anyone mentioned this, but just looking at Star Citizen, it appears to me that it is using the "Pay To Win" model, which I loathe. Im hoping for a long plot with a gripping story line to it. For me eye candy with rebirth is not an issue as it does look sweet but if the main plot is only 5 to 10 hours long then it would be to short imo.
Im also hoping that they add all elements of game play to the main plot which im sure they will

What makes me feel like I'm the one piloting my ship. In the preview for Star Citizen he showed us a clip of the player getting into the fighter, looking around the cockpit, seeing his hands and feet, etc.
In X3 there wasn't even a cockpit unless you used a mod and you were just a floating camera. So I had to use the cockpit mod using X2's outdated models and textures.
Will you be able to look around the cockpit in XR? or will it just be locked to that image of the front window with a monitor showing ur shield and weapon status. What makes me believe Im realy there?
Not only that, but SC will support the Oculus Rift alowing you to realy look around 360 degrees inside or outside your ship. Provided you have one.

Fortunately I think they said they are giving us a cockpit and an interactive ship... unfortunately I think we are stuck with the one ship so you may quickly bore of the same cockpit.DaMuncha wrote:What makes me feel like I'm the one piloting my ship. Elite: Dangerous sounds good, but we already know that it's going to be a marathon of DLC's and expansion packs. People who pledged £90 or more are going to get them "for free". Given that pledgers are usually rewarded with >50% discounts, I'd expect the full package to cost between £150 and £200. People who won't buy those expansion packs are going to be locked out from parts of space and other pieces of content.SIMON POPPLEWELL wrote: I agree, I don't think most X players are going to be interested in this. It's going to a costly game to play, but then Braben's company is huge and need $$$ to survive. Provided X:Rebirth will stay away from microtransactions, it's going to have no competition as far as "value for money" is concerned. Hopefully, the community will provide more playable ships in a reasonable amount of time.

Yes. Very true. But, you also left out. Private servers that users can run so they can play SOLO and eventually will have tools for modding.ragamer wrote:This is extremely user dependant because feeling that you "are into the game" is basically linked to how your game fullfills your expectations. - SC. The simple fact that's an MMO is a handicap because there are "rules" that will, by definition, try to provide a nice game experience for most of the players at the same time. This invariably will mean a lot of "unreallistic" effects like ships poping from thin air, cuasi-infinite resources and "persistence" of the status of the Universe (That will kill any kind of storytelling) despise radically different player behaviours (That's IF there are real different decissions besides what to kill... Which is what, I'm afraid, SC will turn into). Then if you toss in PvP, you will have all the required "balance rules" that will break the initial design even more based on the exploits/cheats/hacks the PvP community of SC will end adopting.

I'm already bored of it. it looks more like the cockpit of a Mercury than a fighter.BarrenEarth wrote:Fortunately I think they said they are giving us a cockpit and an interactive ship... unfortunately I think we are stuck with the one ship so you may quickly bore of the same cockpit.DaMuncha wrote:What makes me feel like I'm the one piloting my ship. Might be right. I think the interview mentioned it might be around the size of a corvette. So truly not a fighter to begin with.DaMuncha wrote:I'm already bored of it. it looks more like the cockpit of a Mercury than a fighter.BarrenEarth wrote:Fortunately I think they said they are giving us a cockpit and an interactive ship... unfortunately I think we are stuck with the one ship so you may quickly bore of the same cockpit.DaMuncha wrote:What makes me feel like I'm the one piloting my ship. Well XBTF you only had the one ship, so I guess they plan to go back to the begining in a way.Cascinova wrote:I still can't get over the fact that we are going to be stuck using 1 ship. Seriously? I didn't know it will cost that much, I guess they will bring out the DLC over time, making it more apealing to the masses.DiabloTigerSix wrote: Elite: Dangerous sounds good, but we already know that it's going to be a marathon of DLC's and expansion packs. Well it's all speculation at the moment, but I'm not going to write off Ego just yet. They may pull off something special yet, we will have to wait and see.DaMuncha wrote:Thats a huge step backwardsSIMON POPPLEWELL wrote:Well XBTF you only had the one ship, so I guess they plan to go back to the begining in a way.Cascinova wrote:I still can't get over the fact that we are going to be stuck using 1 ship. If Elite 4 is anything like its predecessors it will be something of a different beast to XR.
Elite 2 and 3 had a newtonian universe with 'proper' planetary systems where planets actually orbited their parent star. There were literaly thousands of systems to explore. You could land on planets and mine their surfaces by dumping mining rigs off.
But you couldn't build an empire of stations and ships in the Elite games. You remained the captain of one ship. Imo, these aren't two games that would compete but would compliment each other, and I would probably want to own both.

The problem is, I think, they expected their playerbase to have better reading skills...Cascinova wrote:I still can't get over the fact that we are going to be stuck using 1 ship. Like others I don't think X is going to lose much market share to Star Citizen. It seems like a much different game. Rich story line, action focus, and I fear limited playability (once the storyline is finished not much reason to keep playing).
X not so much of an action focus, weak storyline, greater freedom. Can't really be a space mogul in SC, can't unleash a dozen carriers on a hostile sector in SC. Question is: Once I have built that fleet that can pretty much take all comers, do I have a reason to use it? I don't need money, ships, faction, or factories at this point. Which is the reason I stopped playing my last X game.

Same! I'm hoping when Rebirth is finally released in 2015, has a long plot, something that motivates you to build a fleet, start a trade empire and actually involves them in it.gandy|UKCS| wrote:Im hoping for a long plot with a gripping story line to it. A nice long 20-30 hour odd plot. If it's only something like around 5 hours long, then I don't think I could muster up the words to show my disappointment.

Too bad, but probably not - Bernd already mentioned that plot will serve as a launchpad for further grow.Fallent wrote:Same! i wont be disappointed if its 5 to 10 hours as it will be just like almost every other game out there as the day of long story lines and plots left gaming years ago for me 60+ hours would be epic.
A sub plot that runs in parallel to the main plot ( and they cross over at times ) is the way to go as you can make the main plot last. I would have the main plot as the sub plot that winds its way through 2 or 3 other plots/stories as i tend to find stories like that a little more gripping and its also classic tv show way of doing things.

Actually according to the last interview the economy will be very much like X3. You buy factories and supply them, they make the weapons, missiles, ammo. You also have the ability to form guilds to have a fleet... the difference is no bad AI controlled craft, there will be other people flying in your fleet.Eukatae wrote:Like others I don't think X is going to lose much market share to Star Citizen. I think SC will indeed have an impact on Rebirth if it is released first. Not everyone has hundreds of dollars of extra money to spend and If I can only afford two games a year, and one of them was SC, then that limits me doesn't it.
