Oh, and sorry I'm not worthy to hijack a Star Trek thread (how dare I!) with such an obviously inferior show... each to their own guys, and besides, my point was that ST or SW would be very difficult to do compared to B5.
Great point about the ships, or lack thereof, but thats why I think it would work... It's because the ships aren't in the show in the first place that anything created goes - just takes a bit of work to keep the balance and modelling to a decent level. Babylon 5 wars space combat game already does this with Narn corvettes and Minbari light fighters all being in there... and official too.
Babylonian Inc would probably want a huge wad of cash though, this could be the killer problem for any really good mod based on any show or film - Can you imagine ANY production company not wanting a slice of the action? George Lucas aint a millionaire for nothing, and Gene Roddenberry's estate is worth a few quid too...
Perhaps we should try to come up with a way to circumvent or deal with this problem?

As long as you don't try to make money with your mod it's NO problem to use trademarked ships from Star Trek or Babylon 5. But you will NEVER get your hands on the original meshes from the series, neiter B5 nor Star Trek (DS9 / VOY / ENT Only).
C'mon guys, wanna see a friggin' Dominion Wars Mod with all the Mirandas, the Excelsiors, the Defiants, the Galaxies, the Sabres, the Akiras ... and so on and so on ...

The only problem with Star Trek is IMO that it's all capital class oriented. Not much emphasis on fighters. I don't want to do the majority of my piloting in a Starfleet shuttle and scripting capital ship combat that kept players interested would be a job unto itself. Use Runabouts, Shuttles, Deltaflyer, Defiant ... they're the fighters in Star Trek. And between us
- I LOVE Capital-Ship-Battles. And my ship is evading incoming torpedos etc

There is a lack of real good Star Trek Mods, there are only just good ideas, some started but never finished mods for Freespace, Homeworld etc, but no Mod that supports HUGE Battles where the player takes an active part.
