It would more likely turn the gates in connected sectors into an enormous blowtorch. Electro-Magnetic-Pulse would be the main problem, you're fairly well screwed if your ships electronics just fry.StarSword wrote:By that logic, the supernova would only destroy the sector it happened in. Logically the gates closest to the explosion would be destroyed first.mr.WHO wrote:I think that the Nova cause the gate shutdown rather that incinerate all sectors - remember the gate is really small comparing to star system so there is no way that the shockwave could destoy anything through gates (exept the gates themselves).

Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

I resent that. It's only the American government that does that. The rest of us are just idiots for electing them.mr.WHO wrote:This way thye might play a role of big bad (bad but not evil, kinda like present day USA) empire of X-R, they come, they shoot, they take what they want and ask for no permission due to their obvious superiority.

And for the record, I voted for Obama, and am adamantly opposed to the cowboy mentality engendered by his predecessor.

That bit has been messing with my head all day at work. Especially considering that the Ancients or some Keeper nearby would likely have noticed a holyexpletive star blowing up and hit the kill switch on the gate network before it propagated -too- far. And what star could it even have been? Or was it simply a gamma ray burst pointed right at a gate by chance?Nanook wrote:So you read the Superbox Encyclopedia, too?
... Or are we talking Supernova in the sense of Plot Device A, which caused Events A-D leading to the need for Plot Device B, the sole way to prevent the Khaak/Xenon/Nazis/whoever from completing their plan for Event E. That'd be lame.

Maybe the supernova isn't an exploding star, but rather a Super-Nova: an M3-plus-plus. It goes haywire and starts blowing things up, and not even battleships are able to stop it.
Or am I imagining things?

Seriously, if this were the case, that X-R turns out to be just like X2/3/3TC but with a revamped graphics engine, UI, and multicore support?shireknight wrote:Er guys I wouldn't get too excited, it's the same game with a new storyline just like X2, X3 and X3TC were lol.
I'd wet myself with glee. I love X3TC, but the single-core support on its own is a major limiter to what can be done with the engine from a script/modding standpoint, and while the graphics are still decent, they are definitely aging.
The core gameplay is fantastic, though, and I wouldn't be at all upset if it didn't change significantly.
Clean up, polish, iterate.
That's reason enough for me to squee

Indeed. That wouldn't be a bad end, would it?Wintersdark wrote:Seriously, if this were the case, that X-R turns out to be just like X2/3/3TC but with a revamped graphics engine, UI, and multicore support?shireknight wrote:Er guys I wouldn't get too excited, it's the same game with a new storyline just like X2, X3 and X3TC were lol.
