Learn to not reload and just keep playing.
Recovering from losses is integral part of the satisfaction of this game. Once I learned to relax and accept that things will go wrong, the immersion factor went through the roof.
That being said, this epic game can throw you some real curveballs and some of them are just silly. So when the Albatross decides to fly right through your complex and demolishes a couple stations...yeah, go ahead and reload. But if you lose a freighter or two to a Q, just keep playin, man.
Besides, you can't get revenge if you were never wronged in the first place!

It's unlikely to make it's own sticky, but I have added this to the Ultimate Guide thread.GOSNELL wrote:I Merely want this to act as a quick guide to new players, and if i get enough responses made into a sticky

No loitering in front of jumpgates. The penalty for that is Capital punishment.

Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

The autopilock should be viewed as a last resort. It's only a squirrel in a box with a map of the universe after all (holding YOUR joystick). Trust at your peril.
2. Gates; enter bottom, exit top, it's the rules. Oh and don't idle here it's the work of the devil.
3. The three essential ship upgrades (other than speed, turn and cargo) are fight software I (targeting), dupex scanner (Triplex?) and a jumpdrive...
Enjoy

Using the galaxy map, watch out for big ships (TL, M7, M1, M2) approaching gates in other sectors. When you think that they got very close to the gate, save the game, then jump in front of them and hope that they collide with the gate. After the fireworks show, collect the dropped weapons and missiles.
It works with sectors filled with rocks and asteroids, as well, when the ships are in the middle of the rocky field...

Play every game as if it were Dead is Dead, it'll immerse you far deeper into the game.
