OK

With the old files you can't delete have you tried taking ownership in the properties security tab?

properties > security > advanced > owner > edit > Change owner to

and check replace owner on subcontainers and ojects.

close the properties dialogue and reopen it, then grant youself full control

Yup, but it still won't delete, It resets to ownership by some unknown user. It's my old cygwin folder, so having unix type files may be the cause. As I don't know why for sure (I'm not that good at windows security), I'm reluctant to be setting file properties like that deliberately for the vault.

I'll do a bit more research today anyway, just in case I can find a way to protect the vault that won't make it eternally undeletable.

Version 1.c of the Savegame manager is now available for download.

This release adds a vault feature which will let you stores copies of particulerly important savegames, and use them as a base for new campaigns.

I've also made a lot of changes to the text in the program, aiming to increase readability. A lot of the text has also been changed in preparation for producing translations of the savegame manager into different languages.
That won't happen for a while mind. Fun though this is to write, I have other projects that need some attention now.

Thanks once again to GrahamAtome for testing this release.

Hi Mrbadger: Thanks for the vault - just what I wanted! By the way, you need to edit the title version number to 1c at the top of the first page post

Version number fixed, thanks for spotting that.

Remember that the vault can still be deleted outside of the savegame manager, it's readonly just within the savegame manager itself.
That goes for folder belonging to most windows programs though.

Nope, this is the same code that you tested. I did change the text fron one dialog box, can't remember which, because it didn't read well to me, but that's trivial.

I'd like to start a collection of campaigns that savegame manager users can import and try out for themselves. This is for X3:R and X3:TC

I'd do the actual hosting of the campaigns. That way I have the option of adding a direct link to the available campaigns in the savegame managers links menu.

I'll look into setting up an upload area in my hosting to simplify submissions, but that may take a few days.

The guidelines for campaign submission are:

* Compress the folder containing the selected campaign into a zip file, then either email it to me (many email providers allow attatchments of greater size than a single savegame), or stick it on a file sending site like rapidshare and PM me the download link. Anything I can use without signing up. I'll provide my email address via PM.

* It might be better to use the export feature to extract the campaign you want to send.

* Only one savegame in the campaign. Be careful to make sure you include the latest savegame.

* A decent amount of descriptive text in the pilots log for the campaign. Enough to let a player know what to expect at least. Remember that if you fork the campaign you want to send before exporting it, you get a clean log file that you can write the description in. Make it fun, put in a list of major properties, or fleets if you have them.

* There is no lower limit on how much you've acheived in the game, if it's interesting, send it in.

* No ***modified*** campaigns can be accepted. The only exception being those few players who've had that tag added by antivirus software (which has happened to my own main game), but if this is the reason, be sure to say so.

Whatever campaigns I get I'll put on my hosting and then link to them in this thread.

{edit, on second thought, in a thread in spoilers, linked to from the first post in this thread, since that would be what they were for new players.}

I'm not sure, I wrote this on Windows 7, so it should work. Have you got the latest Java runtime?

If you haven't, download it from here:

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

If that doesn't work, post again or PM me.

That error message appears if your X3:TC savegame folder isn't in the usual place, which should be

Documents\Egosoft\X3TC\save\

on drive C.

It won't be there until you've made at least one save mind.

If that's where it is, and the folder still can't be found, then post again and I'll try and work out what's happening.

If it's somewhere else, you need to edit the cfg.xml file and replace the word 'standard' with the full path to your savegame folder. Detailed intructions for doing this are in the usage guide in the first post of this thread.

Ok, that's an odd one. I don't know of any one else who has had this problem on windows 7.

There may be one possible explanation. I changed the savefolder path in the program to make the one build work on XP/Vista/Windows 7.

Download this version and try it. I've set it up just for windows 7 this time.

{edit: Link removed, no longer required}

I've tried it on my system, and it works for me.

That's ok. Enjoy the program :)

The reason for the problem has to do with the several ways its possible to get to the documents folder, obviously my software gets confused in some situations, bless it.

I'd better update the downloads section with builds specially for Windows 7 then.

{edit: New builds for Windows 7 added to the main download section.}

Suggestion time!

I'm going to start working on the version of the savegame manager that I will submit for the upcoming X-Superbox.

I already have some changes in mind, namely improving tooltips and better savegame folder location searching (to get round the need for different builds for windows 7).

If anyone has some suggestions for changes or improvements they want to put forward, feel free to do so. I'll leave it a few days before I start coding, so there's time to think about it.
