Well with the fact that the box and manual are only going to be printed in German, this is one i wont be getting, which is a shame, as it will be the only X-Game i dont own. With the availability of the download patch (when released) there is no reason apart from completeness to me actually purchasing the Gold Version which i was planning on doing assuming wrongly that it would be available with printed matter and box in English. I then thought i know order a US version, then remembered its a EU only release. So that wont be happening either. Lack of a UK retailer/supplier isnt a problem i'm used to buying games online and waiting for them to be shipped.

If at some point a version with English printed material and packaging is carried by the Egosoft shop, I'll order a copy, but until then this will be the only X-Game that i have not bought on day of release.

I agree and I'm a native german speaker. Originally got X2 in english (when I was in the UK years ago). Ever since stayed with the english versions, because the german sector and wares names sound like kauderwelsch to me. I just would not be able to take the game serious anymore...

Just ordered mine. Shame it's not being released in English, but you can't have eveything. Time to brush up on my German I guess

Now I've ordered the German version, please don't change your minds and release an English version too as I'd be gutted.

Is the German 'Gold' manual any different to the original German X3:TC manual ?

i.e if not, I assume if there were an English one, it would be the same as the English TC manual.

i bought xbtf and every other game as it was released,but i think ego has made a mistake in just bringing x3 gold out in german as i think a lot of people will not buy it out side of germany,and i am one of them,so i think they will lose out on a fair bit of revenue,the old one

I completely agree, and everything can't be blamed on the publishers, Egosoft should not of got themselves in that position with a publisher(s) unless its to save some serious cost?.....stupid if you ask me.....

The thing is we are not only talking about the UK. What about long time supporters of the X series in the US, Canada and Australia. I would have thought that if you add all these together, it might be worth a few more bob to Egosoft.

Because Ego continue to develop software which appeals to their dedicated, but comparitively small fanbase.

It would be nice to see a massive re-surgence in interest in games like this, but check the reviews in mags - games like this are few and far between since they don't sell the millions that high profile games do.

So long as Ego keep developing games like this, they are probably limited in the publishing choices they have. I trust them to keep picking the one that gives us (the punters) the best deal

Hopefully (if it's what they are going to do - which has been implied) the next "big thing" will be on console as well and will still hold true to the interests of their fan base and also introduce a shed load of new customers.

Then Ego may be able to demand a little more out of any deals, but until then they are probably quite limited in their choices. I still remain very happy in how it has gone - yeah, you won't be buying the pretty box. But you'll still have all the functionality in the game

The fact that the manual and packaging is in German makes it even more of a 'colectable' for me. I have long since learned that any manual for the XUniverse games only covers the bare bones at best, and some whopping inaccuracies at worst. As long as the game plays in English I don't really mind. (and if you already have the original Terran Conflict there is already a copy of the manual included).

Just the same I agree it is a bit puzzling for this choice, becuase even though publishers for this version may not have representation in the USA/Canadian market,(or Ausrtalia as in my case), what's there to stop folks in these locations generating huge sales through ordering directly from the online Egosoft Shop? - as myself and many others no doubt have done. So an English version would have still made sense to me.

But more publicity means more than 300,000 copies sold.For example GTA 4 is an unplayable game but has publicity more than enough.
