Apparently my MUD ranking is 73% killer although "Evil-Burnit" got 100% but he's a cheat

XOU Yes!
I'd like to see, and I probably would pay a small monthly fee to play in an X Online Universe game. I had never played the X games before X2, and what attracted me to it was the "sandbox" quality of the game... the freeform, non-linear gameplay. After a couple of hours playing I began to feel like I was wasting my time playing "alone in the sandbox." So, I tried Eve-Online, which is a pretty cool game.
Both games are pretty rich/deep and both are fun/rewarding in their own way... but something is just more fun in an on-line setting. Playing MMORPGs feels much like a more worthwhile way to spend your time.
X2 tries to be everything to everyone and in the end only appeals to a small niche of players. I'd imagine that XOU would appeal to more people but from the looks of the poll i'm probably wrong! XOU would be much slower paced than a single player X.
For a MMORPG version of X I'd like to see
- better flight control, better piloting control (I'd like flying a ship to feel more like Freelancer) IMHO, flying in X2 is way to stiff. I want to feel like I'm flying!
- single "shard" universe
- possibility of moving out of 1st person perspective to get better overview of Fleet and Factories, complete GUI overhaul!
- landing on planets!
- definitely PvP, but also definitely non-PvP/safe zones ;^)
- lots of UNEXPLORED space
- individualized avatars and ships
- Character can be any race... Argon, Boron, Split, Xenon, Khaak...

There's some race information on the Xai Corporation site, but not many pictures.Rumour wrote:Speaking of races/species -- I am not aware of any of the X-Universe species (what they look like, how they think). Is there any online source of this information? All I am able to find is screenshots of their vessels.
Other places to look would be http://x2ou.com/ and the Argonopedia at http://error691.com/hti

I've played many online games. currently mess with diablo2 which is freeplay. thats the only reason I put up with what goes on with it. Those of you who play know. I've played and beta tested Jumpgate which is another space sim. There is an alien race that can and will attack you , can't own any stations last time i played it and yes there were alot of pkers on it. I was always being chased by someone and you had to pay for that abuse. Some people just wanted to play the amass the wealth part and others just liked to blow them up. I got tired of losing my ship and equipment and running all the time from the bullies so that ended it for me. I'm afraid this will be the same thing here. It takes time to run cargo, build up credits and build factories and fleets and just how much time are you going to spend doing it. Just look at the time we spend playing the single player one without the interference of other people. I think that in this instance factories would have to come with equiped turrets and as many shield placements as the player could afford. I could just see putting out an ssp and finding it gone the next day because someone was getting rid of the competition. Can you image thousands of ssp's running in the universe.
I don't think there would be enough space to fit all those stations and oh my god the lag would be terrible.
Maybe in the far off future but lets face it , its gonna cost money to play and there has to be more to keep your interest. I no longer play any of those online games except diablo 2 and only because I can create my own passworded games if i so choose and play with some of my friends. I think if you make it non pker game with just pirate, xenon and whatever attacks then that would promote companys being formed and partnerships with various peoples. Forming guilds and the guilds assign you certain factories to run and there is a strike force built up and you can band together for raids into xenon territories. Make it tough so no one player can go in and live but needs help. And don't forget rewards (spoils) like uniques equipment (larger guns , better shielding, armor ships and such).
Lost vessels that can be found. keep the interest. for those that like pking then let em go off somewheres and fight . They can only kill people that have the pk flag displayed. Ah and then theres personal ship design center. ok any way thats what it would take and more for me to try it out in multi.

I'm interested to see how its going to work.
I played Earth and Beyond for a year and it worked. Worked really well.
4 different servers all with thousands of people on them. Just goes to prove that.
You weren't allowed pvp fighting unless inside an arena and some of the mobs in the game couldn't be taken down by just you so it encouraged people to group together in order to win. They had a developing storyline aswell which was updated every month.
You could also walk around stations which meant you had somewhere a group of friends could meet up outside of their ships and just "fart" about
If X2-Online could incorporate any of that it would increase the playability a lot.
I run a home network of 4 PC's aswell so if they make it so you can host your own server it could work well. Like having your own guilds server, although that would kinda stop you from making new friends in game

Just to echo the comparrisons between X-Online and Eve, I played Eve for about 6 months as a CEO of a small corporation.
The PvP meant pirate corps such as the obnoxious M0o using said exploits etc to anihilate new players in scout ships with their battleships. Non pirate clans would declare regions of space as their own and group attack all who entered. This made large areas of the universe that were no-go places for small corps or individuals. What this effectively done was limit who could access the best loot drops/mining asteroids and effectively monopolise their grip on anyone challenging them.
Eve had a lot of potential but fell far short of the possibilities it had. Content was already mentioned, or rather lack of it, corporations running round and killing all that moved and plagues of exploits/bugs were what eventually drove me away and to subscription cancellation. I truly doubt whether any MMO game can prevent pre-pubescants ruining the experience of other players with their gamestyle.
I hope X-Online can prove me wrong.

I would love to see the XOL package include a small addon that allows people to run their own limited server. Say allow us to run our own 8 player server. I would definately buy it then!
I'm none to keen on paying out X amount of money to have jackasses ruin the game for me and others. Combat should be made concentual, not something that just happens. Or have a specific set of systems that are pvp and the rest trading, adventure systems. The people who don't want to fight and just create an empire can do, those who want pvp can waddle off into the pvp systems and shoot people to their heart's content.
Games are ment to be fun, not a chore

i think that one way to operate the system would be to have it broken down into smaller systems (it already is in a way by race, boron etc) each system and each race is made up of different clans, each clan controls and creates sectors (at a cost) but can shut down all jump gates to prevent access to their areas when no-one is online and hence prevent distruction when no-one is there to protect it, kinda like last one out close the door. to make it workable though some for of player cap would have to be in place as it would get to big.
LOAM
ps sorry if this has already been said, i didnt read all the thread

X online sounds stupid, and with the current combat system it would just mean that the players with the biggest ships would win.
Bigger ships = More speed, more firepower, better shields.
Small ships = better turning
So unless they make a better combat system, X online will die out very fast, because the rich ppl will kill everyone else in a second.
Personally, I think they should rather make a small multiplayer part for the original game like LAN, before throwing out an entire MMOG.
I would just love to work together with some friends in conqueing the universe.

my thoughts exactly. Lan functionality would be fun. Being able to play against one or two chums batteling their fleets or even flying head to head in combat would be fun. The server would have to be a solid rig with great performance but they are certainly out there. On-Line would be insane! How would you control the masses from being the idiots we have seen in other MMO's. I too have spent some time on Diablo 2 and in the forums surrounding Diablo 2. Nothing but warnings about spammers, hackers cheats. And then if you are a new player you not only have to get through the AI but get around theives who are out to take advantage of a newbie by selling dubed items which expire when used and dissapear.
The universe would be full as soon as the system goes live, and all of the users PC's would melt! Humm come to think of it that might be a reason for me to get the wife to approve a budget for a new RIG. All hail X2 on line

My my, we are getting desperate, digging up threads nearly a year old...
It is clear that X² will not go online, as the game would not work in its current format. X-OU will be its own game, not just an online version of another one. And as it is not yet even under development, speculation is just speculation.
Please don't keep dragging up old posts.
