I am actually trying hard to think of a way of getting crew chatter/engine noise into the cockpit, but I really can't think of anything. All engine noise from the ship you're in gets muted in the cockpit view and there doesn't seem to be any way to change this. You can't add a new sound as the game only seems to be able to add sounds for engines, weapons and explosions. The rest is hard coded.

If there was a way for a script to detect the current view then I might be able to do something, but I can't find anything like that in the script editor.

The silly thing is that in reality in space the cockpit is the only place you'd actually hear engine noise.

Sod the Yaki Mizuchi....with a little work done on the the bridge (smaller windows and just 1 level maybe? it needs a warship bridge) and heavy weapon emplacments that looks like it could be a viable OTAS Boreas replacment......

God that Boreas model needs replacing!!!!!!!

Please someone find a viable model replacment if not this......

I will certainly think about adding some of these ships as the design is certainly in keeping with the standard X Universe designs. They will have to be retextured of course.

What do you have against Otas?

OTAS have a bunch of ships already though (that aren't just duplicates), and I'd be more inclined to suggesting that the current Boreas be left with the vanilla model in case the rumors of Cadius making a replacement model in the future turn out to be true.

Conversely, the Yaki really need their own "not just retextured Paranid capital" ships, and are less likely to get some love.

TUTORIAL TO GET CREW CHATTER WORKING WITH THE SRM
------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll need the Mod Manager. Please note I've not actually looked at the Crew Chatter mod, but I'm 99% sure this method will work.

Open the Crew Chatter cat/dat in the mod manager. You should see several sound files.

I'm going to assume the crew chatter only alters the capital ship engine sound.... so

You need to extract this file (drag to desktop):

102.wav

Then you need to make a copy of it and rename it to "138.wav" (the new Split capital ship sound).

Then reinsert this file into the cat/dat ensuring the path is set to "s\". Do not enable compression when you insert it.

Put the cat/dat higher than the SRM and it should all work.

If you want to replace the Khaak and Xenon capital ship sounds, then its 133.wav and 126.wav.

For a complete run down of what sound file does what, look at the "sounds.txt" file from the SRM or CMOD.

OTAS have a history of bad design then for them to get one of my favourite ships is just a travesty :lol:

I'd be more inclined to give it to Yaki or Aldrin myself. Also M2? I'd have thought M7 or M6 for it, it's not actually meant to be a big ship.

OTAS needs a carrier far more than it needs an new Boreas. M1 or M7, I don't mind. They've got all their own fighters, and not a single thing to do with them. I might give them a Griffin or two while we wait, but it simply doesn't look right.

If the Yaki are going to get their own models, might I suggest that we keep the retextured Paranid ships for Duke's Buccaneer's? Race 0, so that they aren't spawned randomly by any mods. They look too pretty to simply discard.

Well don't get too carried away. We've had a quick look and they look an absolute bi*** to retexture and I certainly won't put them in without retexturing so it probably won't happen.

I agree that the Yaki need more love than OTAS certanly, actually the ''SRM'' OTAS line up is quite good, the Venti is still super sexy, new Notus is mean, Solano looks capable, Aquillo looks great, and the new Mistral models are superb...the Skiron is a little weak'ish (subjective of course).

Just leaves the butt ugly Boreas and a new Carrier for them, i have got this feeling Cadius will never actually get round to doing a new model though, as people have asked for it several times over the last year, and do think that the Boreas is generally considered across the forums as the most hated bit of design in the game!

So well yeah, i do think the SRM would benefit from a new Boreas model........something that looks like a cutting edge light destroyer.

The M7 Astreus is an alright middle of the road carrier frigate - not that there isn't also room for a more traditional light carrier.

But OTAS could use an M1 pretty badly, I agree. For those of us who like to keep their fleet all in the same race/design, it would be a godsend.

I thought you might all like to see how the Kha'ak will look after the next update. All the ships have been retextured for consistency and to give Cadius' new Kha'ak ships a more "Kha'ak-like" look (IMO obviously!).

Thanks to Mizuchi once again for his help with these new textures.

Hope you like them!

(Oh, and the Kha'ak Carrier can now actually dock ships!)
