Another nice picture. Enough eye-candy in Rebirth...

Question now is, what can we do with it? Own it? Destroy it? Extend it?

I agree with a previous poster: we now know the Rebirth universe contains some beautiful locations. But I rather explore them in game. A picture with the user interface (during flying, fighting, trading or whatever) would be highly appreciated. Or, (dare I say it…?) a movie with a dogfight between two drones or something like that….
Burn the land, boil the sea,
you can't take X from me...

Anyone else getting turned off by the cartoony style graphics?

I love Borderlands, the graphics suit the game perfectly, but for an X game I prefer realistic graphics.
When I read the stickies about the game I get excited about it, seeing the pics and vid... my excitement fades.

he has a point, some of the texture work is semi-realistic, some of it really isn't. I've been playing crysis a lot recently for the Starcry mod. So when i saw the screenshots i do, was slightly disappointing. They don't seem to use any DX10 - 11 technology to improve some areas of the game either.

Don't get me wrong, still plan to buy the game. Just hope someone can and will release a high quality texture pack :)

That's probably because the game is made using just DX9 ;)[/b]

Making a game that has Direct X 11 built in does not automatically make it amazing. DirectX 9 may be old but games still look great with it, you need to take into account that there is NO AA in these images and I doubt they are using all the settings they can in the screenshot...

It hasn't got to do with DirectX, it's the flat colours and thick black lines that make it cartoonish.

I love the ambient of those structures in this station/mining facility. I can´t wait to fly my skunk through there.

A bit disappointed that we have already seen it, but I guess the higher resolution kind of makes up for it.
But as stated earlier these screenshots are not new at all, we have seen them in previous in press releases interviews and videos from Egosoft. And my guess is it'll be like this until we get a release date. Same old screenshots from last year.

I quite like it actually, the Rebirth images on the whole have a more life like feel to them than X3. I think we need some more live footage to get a better idea though tbh most people in this forum have clearly bought into the concept and are waiting to buy it.

EDIT: Didn't quite get the angle right, but are you seriously saying that you can't see the similarities? The angular edges of the 'roids nearly match up, and the mine is nearly in the right place.

How the hell did you notice that, my mind... has just been blown! :O
I just instantly thought "Hey, that looks like an X3 ore mine 'roid."

i'm not saying it does, but with directx 11 and DX11 tessellation, developers have more tools to make things look much better. More dynamic shapes, lighting and as a result the detail goes up a fair amount.

Some of the rough edges and shapes, not including texture. looks very dated. I know AA isn't turned on and that doesn't bother me. As i know what the game will look like with AA on. But i just hope rebirth tries to take advantage of some of the latest technology.

Obviously, not expecting crysis level of detail. But DX11 could take the game to a whole new level. graphically.

Well one of the X:R videos I saw from some convention looked good graphics wise. Although the graphics do like kind of crude right now from the images (as stated above no AA probably). It's still a WIP probably, without maxed-out settings. From what I can see I don't think the graphics are cartoony (which I prefer realistic graphics of course), but I guess we would have to see more of the game to get a better idea. But so far I think it's looking realistic.
Of course I think that X could go further using DX11 and the newer technology.

@EmperorJon
Wow you've got some eagle eyes there aye! It looks very similar to the X3 mine, except for the graphics of course. On a side note it's a great image to compare X3/X:R graphics.

The DX11/DX9 argument has come and gone, much like the Steam argument and the 1-ship argument and the Y U NO RELEASE INFO?.png argument.

I think the only difference in the X3 mine in the X:Rebirth screenshot is the lighting, and scale.

DirectX doesnt matter, X3 doesn't look cartoony. It's not so much the lighting, it's more the reflection, the colours are flat, in X3 things look more shiny.
Maybe it's the lack of AA that it looks like things have black lines around them.
Some screenshots look really good, but some (e.g. 006, 015, 028 and the last one) appear to come from a comic book.

Can we stop the multiple-nested quotes now please? It makes the thread long and unwieldy to read. Just quote the actual bit you are replying to - if it needs a quote at all.

I hate it myself and didn't do so in the past, but experience taught me it's often better to do so. I'll be more careful now.
