Haha well done, slug. I am sure your recent spell of bad luck makes a lot of people feel less stupid. :D Good luck with the final acquisition of those two ships. :)

And if you don't mind me giving advice just use your HCP with marines on board to capture a surrendered m6 fly within a few meters and execute boarding. I only wish you the most success and these boarding disasters could easily be avoided.

And if you order in the next 5 minutes my book on boarding operations will only cost you 8000 creditsss! Wow what a deal!
It works for any ship: destroy all of its weapons with IonD and it will stop and just float there at 0 m/s.

Surely this must be considerered a bug (which I'm not convinced I'd like to see fixed anytime soon <g>)?
Logic dictates that weaponless ships should try to make a run for it rather than play dead.

logic would also dictate that all enemies, when overpowered would attempt emergency jumps. Which would make capture impossible in the game as it is, unless some system for jump interdiction could be devised. It's a game with strong aspects and few shortcomings, hopefully the next egosoft project will see all the ideas presented in the X series refined and built uppon.

alternatively, you could consider that the ships, seeing themselves stripped of weapons and defences by superior forces, would have all hands equipped with laser rifles and whatnot for a last stand, instead of hopelessly running and provoking attackers to continue the attack.

Or, after all external systems (weapon systems) get toasted, Nav computer fails and its impossible for them to move?

You can pretty much rationalize the game behaviour anyway you want, whatever helps your immersion

"Did you hear that? They've shut down the main reactor. We'll be destroyed for sure. This is madness!"

Marines run past and take up positions waiting for boarding forces

"We're Doomed! There will be no escape for the princess this time""

Oh no wait, was that something else? I'm sure I heard someone shouting that last time I boarded a ship called "The Princess" :D

Heck, it's better than it was in the X3R days, when anything bigger than a TS simply would never bail...

There certainly WASN'T any escape for the princess.

I wonder how many princesses bite the dust on account of stubborn captains.

And just how many princesses are there flying around anyway? :?

Someone should mod in a Killed Princess counter at the stat screen :D

Reminds me of the time i was playing around with IonD's to check if it made capping more successful (X3:R), stripped a pirate harrier of all it's weapons and it just orbited my nova at it's top speed till i put it out of its missery :P

Calculated risks tho (I like to think). Dangerous period is early when you have little shielding. Nowadays I've got a healthy 800Mj around me. About the only thing that's likely to kill me is a Hammerhead to the face and with 360 ION-D I'm pretty safe from that too I reckon.

FREEDOM!!!

Finally, after a day and a half cooped up in this godforsaken hellhole at the arse-end of the universe, the cretins that I employ to capture ships for me have finally got there sorry carcasses trained up to the level of 'monkey-with-a-gun'.

It has not been a fun time baby-sitting my charges chiefly because those little purple horrors have been harassing me constantly. It got to the point where I eventually decided to go porcupine, called in my entire capital fleet, set up a box around the two HCP's and then set turrets to fire at will. Elephants these days seem able to pack quite a nice array of weaponry, I've got Ion-Shard Railguns and Flak on mine and with me lobbing the odd missile into the mix that made for quite a nice kill-zone.

Anyways, with my last seven squaddies having finally got here and done their job (bady I might add as yet another five of them managed to get themselves killed) I can finally get of here. It's been a long operation but the end result is somewhat satisfying. I'm now the owner of three HCP's and in the process have accounted for:

KM3 x45
KM4 x26
KM5 x145
KM6 x9

It's some consolation for what they did to my Kestrel, not enough, but it's a start..

My main manufacturing power complex is getting up to speed way down south. It seems I slightly miscalculated the food requirements tho so it's overproducing Bofu by quite a bit. Not to worry tho, it gives room for expansion later. Trouble is tho it's cost me an absolute fortune to get it up and running so I'm now skint for cash which means it's going to be a while before I can fix up my two new HCP's. Meantime they'll just have to keep Mahi Ma company in Hub dry-dock.

Plans for tomorrow, locate a tractor beam for one. My freighter pilots supplying silicon to my power-plex aren't too happy about having to ship it 200km and since my Elephant can allegedly fit one that solves the tug problem. I'm also going to need some equipment to outfit my HCPs so a piracy run in Nopileos perhaps.. Then again I'm now critically short of Mercs being down to my last two so that means no more boarding ops for a while. I've already had to watch several opportunites go sailing past becuase I don't have the tools for the job. Perhaps a capturing run might be in order instead?

We'll see..

I've tried a Dead is Dead game with a boring boron start (Love the borons :D), sold my sheild, bought some extra speed and headed to herons nebula. Auto piloting between two stations when some argon courier joyrider nearly hit me and forced my autopilot to swerve... straight into an asteroid.

I lasted 10 mins  I really fancy trying out a proper DiD game when i get TC though, might last longer!

I've now got a couple of teams of marines in serious training and I've got another set from the terran plot that I need to get in training. Not had much PC time recently but I'm going to make sure I get a chance to try boarding something this week.

Talking of a quick influx of capital, I went to Brennans triumph yesterday and found a load of pirate blastclaws and others and managed to capture 2 blastclaws and 2 elites (with some equipment too!) so its definitely worth it if your luck is in :)

I got smoked on my first couple of tries at Dead is Dead. First was the criminal Split start, where you're in a Medusa and have to escape Split territory. Not easy at ALL. Paranid bounty hunters keep jumping in and trying to gank you. Hard. :o

I also tried the Terran start, but my own lack of discretion led to five M's tailing me pretty much right out of the gun. Surprisingly I was able to easily smoke four of them, but the fifth nailed me with a lucky Silkworm. Game over. :(

Now it's Anonymous Argon time and I have twice as much shielding between me and vacuum. And a lot more common sense. :P

I find alien princesses to be a murky subject, I wouldn't be confortable wooing a Boron princess with that many tentacles. I'm afraid they'd get creative. :D
