I'm sure it will be made as a standalone in the X3 download section of this site. I have to certainly applaud EGOSOFT for identifying and eliminating so many of the major issues in one patch. Sure these fixes should have been in the final game, but technically the game isn't even due out until tomorrow (28th) when the patch is also due out. It just so happens that many people got the game early. Of course it doesn't matter to me as I'll be getting mine on Saturday. Can't wait to play!

GZip is a good compression utility lots of ppl use now and free to use. Might get it smaller for you and i think its got a self extraction option too.

To please you Skeeter, they can simply remove the earlier calming announcment posting about this patch on the way with this one that in fact informs us there's a patch done.

Depending on how well it compresses it should be 50 to 60 MB.

We will make a simple self extracting RAR right away, to allow you guys to have it as soon as possible and make a nicer version with installer a little later.

Jesus Christ! You had better offer this thing externally so we can use our download managers on it. 50MB+ and having to rely on dial-up (which might I add makes up more than half of the Internet users in the world presently so it's not like they're some obscure, small group of people) can turn an almost 9 hour download session into a two or three day ordeal if there are any regular disconnects... combined with the state the game was released in, I can't say what everyone would do or say on the Internet about the game if they were forced to use the single worst way to update a game: forced intra-game updates.

And if we are not forced to update through the game itself, then that's fine. I don't mind a 50MB+ download if I can:

1. Resume it if (when) the internet connection drops due to phone line quality.

2. Keep the patch and back it up on a CD so I don't have to download it ever again.

Maybe this will make you happy then:

Most gaming magazines offer the latest patches to games on their CD/DVD's. There's always the option to have a friend download and burn it for you, or even do it in an Internet Cafe.

The point is that a game should NEVER EVER have made it to retail in such a state that a patch is required to make it actually playable for the vast majority.

The vast majority are probably busy playing the game. Just because you had problems doesn't mean everyone did. There might be just six people with problems, and they might have something in common. :)

About getting patches on cd, if someone does get magazines all the time and has to get a magazine cos the patch is on then thats costing the buyer of x3 game an extra fiver just for the pleasure of getting the patch. So add that fiver to what you bought x3 game costs were and it adds up doesnt it...

But in general i supose ppl have friends that have the internet and these days there is public librarys that have the internet. But such public places dont have cdrw to burn patches to so ud have to dl it from the net on a public computer then rar or zip into parts then have 50-60 discs as its a 50-60mb patch then copy onto floppy lol and then do it all at home and install. Some people dont have floppies anymore lol as well as i had to remove mine for a hdd.

Meh good job im just getting the demo then aint it :p

Wow,

Those are some great fixes Ego, well done. In time for the official release date too. :)

All the issues I've read about so far seem to be tackled, so now I'm REALLY looking forward to getting my game on Monday.

Again, well done. I'm glad you guys stand behind and support your games in such a great manner.

7zip compresses better than RAR by about 20%. Plus it can unzip all earlier formats.
