The recent posts have answered my problem. The pilots were infact morons. Oh well. I will have to put some of them to moron school, until they can trade at a 6 grade level.
Dungeoncrawler wrote:So, in a nutshell, once the buyer (lets say he/she buys crystals) gains enough levels that he/she can now sell, that pilot will take the place of the two seller (selling energy cells) ships, if applicable??? That's what I got out of your last post...thanks.

Hi,
In essence, yes. The upgrade is configurable however such that you can exclude certain products, which you could use to prevent this from happening. Don't forget that once a buyer becomes able to sell, it will not do as many buying runs as it used to, and not as many selling runs as the seller ship, though it may combine buying and selling I'm not sure. You may wish to keep on your dedicated seller, or move the buyer onto selling duties only (still using BPH, excluding the buy resource) then start another ship buying. Once you have a couple (three for some stations) up and running at max level, then everything should be OK.
But it does seem bizarre. There's not so much use for them at the moment except to finish your collection. Could have made them functional. As is they're just a very expensive labour saver for storing your equipment or would need to be worked in conjunction with AI ones to sell.
You'd need a lesser number of ships for high-tech stations, that's good. And I'm currently training an Express, an Iguana and a Demeter to lvl 4, and reckon I'll use only them as buyers for my Profit Ring Alpha. This will free up the myriad of buyer ships, so I can make them seller-ships. Imagine the lag if I were going to have one seller and one buyer for each ware zooming around

It's a ways off for me. I restarted and have just got a couple of wee loops for crystals and 3 SPPs. I'm training up my Universe Traders (2 up and 3 nearly there) and I got my Herc now to start laying out fabs. Only 5 mill left after all that and I have to start getting 125MW shields now...
First off a small bug. The help at the bottom of the screen for the BPH commands comes up in german not english.
I've bought a couple of BPH's to go on my buying ships for crystals for the SPPs. The home base is set and I've selected BPH upgrade from the menu. However they just sit there and do nothing. There is enough cash in the SPP and the jump radius and price of the crystals is set so according to the menu there are crystals available. Why are they just sitting there doing nothing?

1. not a bug, you can only pick one language for help text in the script. the readme gives translations and a specific example of how to prohibit goods.
2. that shouldn't be happening. can you give more details? what price set? what sector? where are crystals available?
The buy price is 1684. Jumps set to 2 for Argon prime. Same buy price buy 1 jump for Kingdom end. According to station parameters there is crystals in range. These are exactly the same setting as the ship was using on buy for best price without the BPH installed/turned on.
Just checked the three worlds trading station. There are 8 crystals for sale at 1684 which should be picked up by 1 of the 2 traders.
More information if it helps
Herrons Nebula has 24 in stock.
If I turn the best buys back on the AP ship goes to ore belt which also has stuff in stock.
If it makes any difference the KE SPP has 273 crystals in stock at the moment and the AP SPP has 276.
Edit: I think we've been playing edit tag a bit, I only added the 8 in as you were replying.
Thanks. That's a useful bit for the README I would think. Are there any more tolerances that are worth knowing about?
Oh and something for the next version perhaps. It might be worthwhile to be able to change the parameter to something other than 82% for each individual resource (if that's possible).
Edit: I stuck it on SETA for a while and they finally started buying once the crystal stock dropped. So it looks like you sussed it.

For selling:
freigther starts selling if:
there are more products in stock than 80% OR
[
the freighter free amount is lower than the products in stock AND
the ressources in stock are higher than 20%
] OR
[
the products in stock * price => 200.000cr] AND
no Station is found to buy from
]
i will write more later
